At 77 years young, Leonard Cohen will soon embark on a world tour in support of his latest LP, Old Ideas . It's his first such venture in nearly three years. Today, Cohen revealed the North American leg, which begins Austin, TX on October 31st and ends with a pair of New York City shows in mid-December. From his music, you can tell Leonard Cohen has felt a lot of pain, anguish that he vividly describes in heartbreaking song after heartbreaking song. Turns out, though, his fans may feel the same. Cohen has canceled a December 4th gig in the island paradise of Hawaii for shows in Vancouver (where he'll freeze to death) and Oakland (where he'll die from lack of drinks that come in coconuts). After a thirty-plus year hiatus from touring and recording the influential Brazilian-psychedelic band Os Mutantes will return to the road this fall to tour behind their first album of new material since 1974's Tudo Foi Feito Pelo Sol . The band, who will release their Anti Records debut Haih Or Amortecedor on September 8, has penciled in a couple of festivals appearances this summer, including a stop at Outside Lands, before heading out across the country for a full slate of headlining shows. Everything I've heard about Cohen live is it's a rather intimate show, and the enclosed smaller space that is the Beacon Theater is perfect for that. What will be interesting is to see how something like this works in venues the size of Coachella or Red Rocks.
