Though he may be most fabled for his immaculate collaborative work alongside a certain PJ Harvey, there's far more to John Parish than that which is most likely to first meet the ear. Whether that be A Woman A Man Walked By or his involvement in Polly Jean's quiver-inducing opus thus far, Let England Shake , his is a discography worth going above and beyond with, and fully immersing yourself in. Though it's the eyes as well as the ears to which Parish's work so unerringly appeals, given his longstanding entanglement in the celluloid [...]

Caleb Price is a 49 year old 1st generation American who immigrated here from Bratislava in 1992. She makes a living by traveling to rural areas of the midwest and the adjoining bible belt where she frightens superstitious rubes into giving her money and expensive cutlery by pretending to be a powerful sorceress . It's a dangerous line of work - there's always the chance she'll be caught, in which case she'll surely face public immolation in some remote Nebraskan town square - but she prefers it to her previous career back home in Slovak Republic, which consisted of [...]
PJ Harvey returned in 2011 with her 8th studio album and yet another reinvention of her sound. Yet again the Dorset native does not merely retrace steps she has taken in the past instead preferring to venture into unexplored territory. This is a concept album of sorts dissecting events and behaviors leading to and during the [...]
Noted photographer collaborates with PJ Harvey for an extraordinary "Video LP."

My top 3 albums of 2011 come as a bit of a personal surprise. It seems that I’ve turned from ‘city slicker’ whose lullaby is a police siren to bucolic gal next door who feels nostalgic at the sound of a country drawl and a banjo. 3. Sparrow and the Workshop - Spitting Daggers If you want folk and angst on the same platter then go no further than Sparrow and the Workshop’s stunning second album. A collection that offers joyful peaks and moody troughs plus a sack load [...]

NO.3 PJ HARVEY - LET ENGLAND SHAKE BUY | LOOK | METACRITIC If the critics swooned in unison at all this year, it was no doubt over PJ Harvey's Let England Shake . Aside from the glowing reviews upon it's release, in September she became the first artist in history to win the Mercury Music Prize twice. In her acceptance speech she stated that "it took a long time to write". She was being modest. Meticulously researched and put together over the course of two [...]

Seeing how our staff has distinct tastes and opinions on music, it would be nearly impossible for us to determine a 10 Albums of 2010 list as a single entity without excessive bloodshed. So over the next couple of days, we’ll be posting Top 10 Albums of 2011 lists as determined by individual Loud Loop Press staff members. Today, contributor Britni Day body slams us with her list for Top 10 Albums of 2011. This year, I felt like I was inundated with a lot of crap on the radio. If I wasn’t learning Jagger’s moves [...]
Album #1: Let England Shake by PJ Harvey I've been a PJ Harvey fan for a long time and have loved nearly everything she's done. But if you had told me in January that her record would be my favourite album in a year when Radiohead released a record, there's no way I would have believed you or your hitler hairdo. But Let England Shake is such a brilliant record that it kind of forced its way here. In a year when some have argued there were no [...]
Album #2: The King Of Limbs by Radiohead The King Of Limbs is not my favourite album of the year, apparently. I go back and forth. But I must admit to experiencing an existential crisis of sorts with placing TKOL at #2. While it is certainly a "minor" Radiohead album (short, little publicity, no tour, no commercial single, etc), I still find myself listening to TKOL a lot. It's got a unique mood and feel and features some really great songs including the album's bookends - [...]

PJ Harvey Welcome to the fifth and final part of our albums of the year countdown - for the rest of the week, we'll be bringing you our favourite albums of 2011, as voted for by our writers. Album #11: Valhalla Dancehall by British Sea Power The lyrics are erudite, poignant, funny. The music is bombastic, exhilarating, delicate. And yet British Sea Power's Valhalla Dancehall went pretty unnoticed in 2011. What more do you need, people? Download British Sea Power - Who's In Control? British Sea Power - Living Is So Easy * Song #11: Let England Shake by PJ Harvey [...]

PJ Harvey is set to release the filmatic adaptation of her Mercury-winning album 'Let England Shake' on DVD via Island Records. The 12 short films shot by photographer Seamus Murphy, coincidentally named 'Let England Shake: 12 Short Films by Seamus Murphy', will see physical and public release on 12th December 2011. The award-winning war reportage photographer created a visual accompaniment to Harvey’s highly-acclaimed eighth studio album, with footage taken from England, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Middle East. The full DVD tracklisting is as follows: 1:Let England Shake [...]

This is probably our favorite track on Let England Shake . It's just so dreamy and multi-layered. Filed under: Beats , Brit Brit Brit , Clip Tagged: album , Let England Shake , music , new , pj harvey , video

As if Let England Shake weren't a record momentous and spellbinding enough already, by the time the impatiently aroused bugle fanfare of The Glorious Land harnesses Jean-Marc Butty's gallivanting, expressive rhythms every last scarcely visible hair on the back of the neck stands to attention, wavering in startled chill. It's palpably warm within the Royal Albert Hall, yet the songsmithery of great British heroine PJ Harvey is intensely bone-shuddering, her latest compositions as comfortable in its vast, annular expanse as antique tat on a dusty, burnt-out fireplace. There may be no "stinking alleys" in [...]
After answering the previous week's call from Kendal Calling, it is on to Big Chill for team Cougar Microbes' next stop off in a marathon of summer festivals. Right from the off this is the friendliest I have encountered yet. Stewards wish you a jolly good knees-up. Caterers willingly smile without gritting their teeth. Furthermore [...]

Every fall for the last 20+ years, legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young has assembled an all-star roster of musicians for a charity concert to benefit the Bridge School – a school which assists children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. Now in its 25th year, this year’s event will feature performances from Young, Arcade Fire, Dave Matthews, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, Tony Bennett, Mumford & Sons, Beck, Diana Krall, Jenny Lewis and Los Invisibles featuring Carlos Santana. The usually all-acoustic shows will take place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif. [...]

We've all been waiting with baited breath and quivering hearts to find out who won the Mercury Prize - excuse me, the Barclaycard Mercury Prize (whose corporate sponsors Pitchfork doesn't have any qualms about fellating). And so it is with humility and awe that we announce this year's winner. (Drum roll, please) ...and, this year's award (given to honor UK & Irish recording artists) will go to PJ Harvey! In all seriousness, lame product placement aside, she really does deserve the honor. I would have liked to see [...]
