Jimmy Vivino and the Black Italians – 13 Live (2013)

JIMMY VIVINO & THE BLACK ITALIANS "13 LIVE" promo
Some magic was bound to surround this, as Jimmy Vivino reunited with long-time former collaborators for the first time in years. But doing so in Levon Helm's old-barn studio, where Vivino had made so many memories, only heightened the date's sense of emotional reminiscence. The results on 13 Live, due May 7, 2013 from Blind Pig, play out like the [...]

Trailer: Ain’t In It For My Health

Ain't in it for My Health Official Trailer #1 (2013) - Levon Helm Movie HD
There's a Levon Helm documentary? Hellz to the muthafucking yes. Levon Helm was/is on my list for "if you could have three people over for dinner" question. I would just have him read me food labels and other mundane things. His voice is that good.

Obligatory Christmas Song – The Band “Christmas Must Be Tonight” (1977)

Obligatory Christmas Song – The Band “Christmas Must Be Tonight” (1977) I'll be the first to admit that Islands , the first of the Post-Waltz Band albums isn't their best work. That said, we're still dealing with the a ridiculous ensemble of talent, and the album isn't without it's moments. One such moment that just so happens to be seasonably appropriate is "Christmas must be Tonight". There are a lot of Christmas songs out there, but only one sung by Rick Danko and topped off with a Levon Helm harmony.

Video: The Band – The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down

The Band - Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
We couldn’t let Thanksgiving pass around these parts without our annual fluffage of the greatest rock movie of all-time -  The Last Waltz . Roughly 36 years ago, about 5,000 lucky fans were treated to a full Thanksgiving dinner, followed by a star-studded “farewell concert” from The Band at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, the site of their very first public performance. With each viewing I seem to come away with a new favorite performance from the film, and after last night’s annual viewing, which was particularly poignant since we lost the great Levon Helm earlier this [...]

‘We had to return to it, and go on’: Garth Hudson remembers the fallen voices of the Band

Levon Helm & Garth Hudson- Don't Start Me Talkin'
This week's “Songs of the Band” event at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, Pennsylvania doesn't just pay tribute to Rick Danko, Levon Helm and Richard Manuel. It features one of just two surviving members of the original Band lineup, performing the songs that bolstered their well-deserved legend. Hudson takes time out, in this SER Sitdown, to remember each of them [...]

The Night Bruce Springsteen Yodeled With Levon Helm: The Boss and The Band’s Drummer – Up On Cripple Creek / Lucille

The Night Bruce Springsteen Yodeled With Levon Helm: The Boss and The Band’s Drummer – Up On Cripple Creek / Lucille Bruce Springsteen and Levon Helm might have come from two completely different worlds, but they had a love and respect for each other that they voiced many times. Helm and The Band started covering The Boss's Atlantic City in the '90s and the resulting version is arguably the best Springsteen cover of all-time. When Levon passed away earlier this year, Bruce tackled The Weight and talked about his reverence for The Band drummer at an E Street Band show in Newark on May 2nd. However, there was only one time the two music [...]

Video: Rare The Band Footage Surfaces On YouTube

Video: Rare The Band Footage Surfaces On YouTube In the summer of 1970 promoters Thor Eaton, George Eaton, and Ken Walker brought together The Band , the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and a number of other bands for a train tour through Canada that was immortalized in the 2003 documentary Festival Express. Not only were many of the songs filmed used in the documentary but an additional batch was included as bonus footage on the DVD. However what's been released isn't all that was shot in 1970 by filmmaker Frank Cvitanovich. The reels containing all of the Festival Express [...]

Roger Waters e My Morning Jacket se apresentam juntos em show tributo a Levon Helm

Roger Waters e My Morning Jacket se apresentam juntos em show tributo a Levon Helm No grande show Love for Levon, tributo a Levon Helm , vocalista e multi-instrumentista do The Band , Roger Waters se juntou à banda My Morning Jacket para uma apresentação memorável do clássico The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down . Jim James e o ex-membro do Pink Floyd se revezaram nos vocais da canção do The Band, que em sua gravação original impressionava pela maneira que Helm exercia as funções de baterista e vocalista ao mesmo tempo. Levon Helm morreu em [...]

Touchy Subject: Robbie and Larry Discuss Levon’s Songwriting

Touchy Subject: Robbie and Larry Discuss Levon’s Songwriting Now that Levon Helm, Rick Danko and Richard Manuel have left this mortal plane we may never know how much truth there was to Helm's contention that he deserved more songwriting credit for the songs of The Band. American Songwriter dedicated their September/October issue to Helm and while they decided not to get into the songwriting debate in their cover story, a post about it featuring quotes from the man who did get the credit, Robbie Robertson, and Larry Campbell (Levon's last musical director) has been posted on the magazine's website . A legend’s wish granted: Midnight Rambles return to the late Levon Helm’s barn

Levon Helm, even as he was losing his lengthy struggle with cancer earlier this year, had one final wish: That the rollicking hootenannys he'd been hosting at his barn - called the Midnight Rambles - would go on. Three months after the three-time Grammy winning voice of Band passed at 71, that wish comes true, as the Helm barn comes [...]

The State of the Blog Address and Levon Helm

The Band, Up On Cripple Creek
My fellow music fans. Sometimes life gets in the way of your passions. Since I moved to Boston, this blog has been a real piece of crap. Maybe 4 or 5 posts a month, if I'm lucky. Things are finally turning around here in Beantown, and I want to jump-start and revamp My Aimz is True. I need a redesign, and eventually a new URL. I'm tired of dealing with the Blogger/Google man. But before I do all of that, I will start posting about the music I love once again! Yay! Many very important musicians [...]
