We couldn’t let Thanksgiving pass around these parts without our annual fluffage of the greatest rock movie of all-time - The Last Waltz . Roughly 36 years ago, about 5,000 lucky fans were treated to a full Thanksgiving dinner, followed by a star-studded “farewell concert” from The Band at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, the site of their very first public performance. Today, April 19, 2012, the world lost a legend of music and life: Levon Helm. The drummer/singer/songwriter of The Band has influenced me immensely in my own musical life. I’m now sitting in my living room watching The Last Waltz - a timeless piece of musical cinema directed by Martin Scorcese about The Band’s last performance together. Pouring a sip out for Levon Helm. A legend of music. Legends never die.
