CNN takes a tour of Dickensian London. PopMatters interviews singer-songwriter Liam Finn . "It became a philosophy of mine, of trying to capture the music in the same way you might record a demo," he said, explaining, "When you start to write a song and you record it on a little four-track, quite often, you catch an atmosphere and those weird sonic things that make it very hard to recreate in a studio. But those sounds—that's where it becomes unique." [...]

Greg Saunier & Liam Finn @ the Rock Shop ( photo by David Wexler ) Tonight (1/30) is your last change to catch Liam Finn at the Rock Shop, for now at least. Tickets are still on sale. The four-show residency began back on 1/9, and at least one person in the crowd drove down from Boston for that show . They wrote: Finn cruised through two sets (see full setlists for each below), [...]

I don't much care for dynastic succession. In monarchies or any kind of business. But it is nice to see a young man inherit a fair bit of his father's talent. The son of Neil Finn clearly knows his way around a pop song. Based on seeing him perform a few weeks back, he also seems to know his way around looping pedals. And going apeshit on drums. And beards. And all that at once. Good genes at work. Liam Finn - Cold Feet

As previously mentioned , the multi-talented Liam Finn will be performing at the Rock Shop every Monday in January starting tonight (1/9). Liam, who is taking requests on Facebook , wrote the following description of the shows: After a whirlwind of a year of touring my album FOMO around the globe I have set up camp in NY and am immersing myself in this bubbling tub of creativity. I plan to unleash four very unique shows over the cold month and will be inviting friends old and new to take part in [...]

I'll never stop loving the beauty of a physical album; everything from the scent of a new vinyl, to the magic of reading the lyrics and seeing the images inside the insert, to the touch of the glossy, matte or recycled paper, and the most important factor - the cover art of the actual overall masterpiece. Here is some of the best album art of 2011. It's easy to see in all of these artists, that there was an actual thought to the structure of not only their music but how it visually sounds. Enjoy! Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: Liam Finn Video: 'Jump Your Bones' Highlight: This sparse, black-and-white video manages to be captivating thanks to the New Zealand singer-songwriter's acrobatic drumming and slow-motion camera work.
Providing proof that the apple doesn't fall from the tree, New Zealand singer-songwriter Liam Finn (the son of Split Enz and Crowded House's Neil Finn) has had a dynamic career of his own. Now touring in support of his sophomore album "FOMO" (his acronym for "fear of missing out") on Yep Roc Records, Finn takes his experiences from playing with his father at the age of 14 and channels his multi-instrumental talents into pop songs that are immediately accessible, with razor-sharp wit, riveting keyboard riffs and guitars that bounce between acoustic and electric loops. Finn's latest single, [...]

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Getting out of the shadow cast by a famous father is a difficult feat. Just ask Julian Lennon or Jakob Dylan. In not quite the same extent, Kiwi Liam Finn feels their pain. Finn's father, Neil, the widely respected and renowned musician from Crowded House, luckily has spread his musical genes on down the line. In cases like these, it's uniqueness that divides the father/son relationship. There will always be members of the media that dwell on that fact, raising never ending comparisons. What Liam brings to the [...]

Singer-songwriter Liam Finn dropped his sophomore album, FOMO , this past summer on Yep Roc Recs . "The Struggle" is one of the hotter and heavier moments from this new album. The song actually reminds me of a track off the Mountain Goats album Tallahassee . The execution is similar, but what makes both tracks so good is that the singers are both really intense.

I am very excited this week because I am going to be heading down to Montreal for Pop Montreal . This is their 10th year in existence. This year everyone is going to be talking about this "band" who will be doing a free outdoor show. So I will give you a list of who I might get to see from September 21st to 24th. *I will be missing out Sunday since I have to head back to Ottawa for this show .* Here is part I for Wednesday and Thursday. New Zealander Liam Finn released a new record this year titled FOMO , from which "Jump Your Bones" (above) is taken. The video is mostly filmed in some kind of super slo-mo setting, with Finn pictured bashing away at a drum kit, which contorts into some interesting shapes. This is the final song on FOMO , and it has a frantic, show-closing feel to it, which is neatly matched by the exhaustive energy Finn pours into his performance in the video. Finn is on tour through North America this month, check here for dates.
