Up until compiling this list, I was pretty sure 2011 was not a fantastic year for music. Well, I may have been completely wrong. There might not have been giant releases from the most prominent artists of our generation, but this is only because there are no more prominent artists of our generation. The internet and availability of music has made anybody a contender for making a great record, and I believe it has become a complete toss up as to who makes a future classic in any given year. Relax, for this is a good thing. Here's my big [...]

Here is my highly-subjective, personal list of favorite albums of 2011. Wild Flag – Wild Flag | CD Vinyl MP3 Download "Romance" (mp3) Rarely do supergroups like this one meet their expectations. But the members of Sleater-Kinney, Helium, and The...

Here is part four of the Best of 2011 Canadian albums. We are almost getting to the Top 10. These albums that are still worthy to check out. Here is the ranking from #20-11. 20. Sound of Lions - 11.44 Listen to Blue , Counting Eights , One and Passive Attack . 19. Mother Mother - Eureka [...]

Photograph by Jon Bergman With no obvious favourite as in past years , we here at Ca Va Cool were left to our own devices when choosing the ten best albums of 2011. Much like the first half of our list , the top ten features a stylistic array from the year's offerings. Plenty to enjoy, from sincere and contrived chill vibes to literary-rock, dubstep to soft-rock verging on quiet storm, and our first top album to be a debut. As always, thanks for reading. See you in 2012. [...]

Coming off a year of traveling throughout the United States and finally making Elite status with Air Canada (one of my greatest accomplishments to date), I have gained a new found appreciation for Canada and the music that comes out of the great white north. As an ode to Canada I have curated a list of my top 5 Canadian albums from 2011, complete with witty commentary and what the band "sounds like". Sheepdogs – Learn and Burn Sounds like: The 70's In one year this bearded, 70's inspired band [...]

Frank Yang The baseline for any Fucked Up show is glorious mayhem. Add in factors like a hometown show, a full-album recital of their ridiculously ambitious and critically-acclaimed, concept rock opera David Comes To Life , the last gig of an insanely busy year in support of said album that took the band around the world from bars to festivals to arenas, a fundraising benefit for Barriere Lake Solidarity , and a lineup made up of some of the band's favourite acts from Toronto (and outlying regions), and expectations [...]
The Best Songs Of 2011 (76 - 100) Making the Best Albums list was relatively easy compared to nailing down the 100 best songs of 2011. The level of incredible music to surface this year is unbelievable. What's more difficult is trying to create some sort of order when laying these songs out, what makes [...]

30. The Head and The Heart - Lost In My Mind It's no surprise that The Head and The Heart would eventually make their way onto the list. Their debut album was a pretty solid collection of mellow tunes with this little gem nestled right in the middle. I sang along to 'Lost In My Mind' on a few road trips throughout the year. 29. The Pack AD - Sirens [...]

Mark this down on your calendar, folks - July 14, 2012 at Downsview Park! I am still in awe with the stellar line-up of the 17 confirmed acts. Edgefest '12 has a little something for everyone...definitely a must-see festival of 2012. Rocking the main stage will be Billy Talent , Death From Above 1979 , Silversun Pickups , The Sheepdogs , Young The Giant , The Dirty Heads , USS and The Pack A.D. . This past year has been a whirlwind for The Sheepdogs - having just [...]
Adele, "Rolling In The Deep" It was astonishingly ubiquitous (okay, overplayed), but every time I hear this I'm still astonished at how good it is. Adele's voice finds its perfect showcase, hitting pleading high notes and low, dirty growls. "You're gonna wish you / Never had met me," the backup singers chirp ominously, as the kick [...]

Library Voices Library Voices premiered "Be My Juliette Gréco, Paris 19493 a couple of weeks ago, but you should check out the video in this post. The song if off the band's third album, Summer Of Lust , which was released earlier this year. Library Voices - Summer of Lust

Photograph by Chris Graham Who are Library Voices? They are a seven-piece pop group from Saskatchewan whose new album Summer of Lust should be popping up on a number of Best of 2011 lists. They are fun-loving literary types who will probably kick your ass at shot chess. They write with one foot in the 1960s and the other in the not-too-distant future. In short, they're a bit like Vampire Weekend, except that they're Canadian and don't give you a mild urge to punch them in the face. [...]
Regina's Library Voices have release a new video. "Be My Juliette Gréco, Paris 1949" is from the indie pop outfits latest album Summer Of Lust . Check out the clip here: The people crawling all over a prone figure reminds me of the video for the Ben Lee classic " Away With The Pixies ".
Download : Caveman - "Thankful" New York's Caveman start of this weeks mix with "Thankful" an ideal mix of Brooklyn texture and that chilled out vibe all of us are looking for as the year wears down towards its close. These guys remind me of what Bishop Allen (one of my all-time favorites) could potentially [...]
