Hello again, and welcome to the latest instalment of New Music Friday. How was your week? I hope you made the most of it; I certainly did, but the downside of that was that I spent a lot of time travelling. Even then, it wasn't so bad, because whilst sitting on trains and buses this week, I managed to get to grips with a lot of new music. This week was just as packed as the previous week was, and the stuff I came across turned out to be even more diverse than usual; you should expect the unexpected in [...]

In the daytime Cari Vander Yacht works as a designer, but at night, she gets busy with experimental projects that would rightly make her an artist. She put together this amusing, surreal GIF photo-series which she aptly called, “ TGIMGIF ” (Thank God It’s Monday’s Graphics Interchange Format). The photographs in her series are all more or less about 50 years old—imagine that. They're here, below, for you to grin at: [...]

If you're looking to be enlightened in all aspects and not just musically, listening to Young Man's album Beyond Was All Around Me is highly suggested. The Chicago, IL indie based band has been blessing listeners with their thought-provoking lyrics and unmatchable sound since the year 2009. Change is never easy and this "coming of age" or "coming of wisdom" based album helps transitioners cope. This record can be categorized by a number of [...]

There have been a few great Glasgow novels discussed on these pages; Alasdair Gray’s ‘Lanark’, Jeff Torrington’s ‘Swing Hammer Swing’ and James Kelman’s ‘Kieron Smith, boy’ are just three examples, but perhaps the most recognisable literary depictions of the city can be found in Archie Hind’s ‘The Dear Green Place’. Hind didn’t opt for the [...]

Mikhail Savin was one of such photojournalists. His shots are real classics today. Mikhail was born in far 1915, started to take photos in 1941. He managed to catch interesting moments of Soviet troops retreat, the defense of Moscow, the Kursk battle, attack of Soviet troops in Europe etc. He had a talisman and believed it always helped him to survive on the most difficult and hopeless days. It was a porcelain ring for curtains hanging. All his work is one of the best samples of how a real professional treats what he does. It gave us [...]
