Last week, or possibly the week before, Domino dropped this free EP from Wild Beasts outta nowhere and we all went "Ooooooo". Released as a teaser to the official 103 that came out on August 10th, it has a John Hopkins remix of last year's LP title track "Two Dancers", an acoustic version of "Devil's Crayon" from their debut LP "Limbo, Panto", the excellently haunting and charismatic "We Still Got The Taste Dancin' On Our Tongues" from "Two Dancers" and "Through The Iron Gate", a b-side to their single "Hooting & Howling". Even though they've had [...]
Johnny Brenda's, February 25th, 2010 Producing some of the most fascinating and unique pop music since…oh we don't even know its so good…the Wild Beasts will romance you into a music coma. Their newest album, Two Dancers (2009), features intertwining falsetto and baritone vocals layered over playful rhythms and sweeping sexual bass lines that imbue their tracks with danceable pulse. Despite the intricate instrumentation their music is catchy, beautiful, sad, and sure does fill a venue to the brim. In a cramped back room before their set at Johnny Brenda's, WQHS sat down [...]
Two albums and six years in, Wild Beasts still have nowhere near the recognition they deserve. The four guys (Hayden Thorpe (vocals, guitar, bass, keys), Ben Little (guitar, keys), Tom Fleming (bass, vocals, guitar, keys), Chris Talbot (drums, vocals)) from Kendal, England can be a bit of a polarising band. Mainly because of their falsetto voices and unconventional indie-band sound, many just can't stand singers with really high voices. Shame. On their debut album "Limbo, Panto" there were smatterings of vaudeville, baroque and cabaret-style music and on their second album (2009's "Two Dancers", which by the way, appeared on almost every year-end [...]
Photography by Popescu Silvestru Alexandru Well... this post won't win us any new fans, in fact, it might scare off a few. I was going to not write about this album, was going to find something, anything, to discuss that may be easier to think about, but I'd be faking it. This is what I'm listening to today and the early part of yesterday, it's what I heard on Saturday night at our favourite dessert/wine haunt Apropos, what I mentioned in our ride report , and I need to get this out! [...]
It's been another interesting year on the outskirts of planet pop and as the year draws to a close it's time for the all important Devil awards for exceptional achievement in the world of indie. Best Band And the nominations for best band of 2008 are: The Brute Chorus , Eux Autres , [...]
I'm back (after a rather pathetic bout of sinus infection - I'm of the firm belief that I do not have an immune system and should just be confined to a wicker wheelchair with consumption), and this post is about one of the reasons I love English music: English eccentricity. It seems English musicians, and I suppose English artists in general, have the knack for the arcane, the offbeat and the witty. It's why I love Stephen Fry. And why I'm enjoying reading Tristram Shandy right now. It would be perfectly all right to collect both theremins and [...]

Wild Beasts "His Grinning Skull" Live in Australia
From the Wild Beasts polarising debut album Limbo Panto. Performed in East Brunswick Club Melbourne AU. We were there for BDO and wanted to cover this for the blog and even though the US arm of the band's press gave us a contact person to request for a press pass for the show they didn't even bother to respond to our request there. Its just despicable how the Australia music scene is just dismissive of any outside press, very controlling. It appears they dont' really care over there if they get any press in the States. Anyways, as for [...]

[Live] Wild Beasts @ Mercury Lounge
We love posting live concert material here at RE, so thanks for the folks at Baeble Music for putting this bit into our mailbox today. It's from the recent Mercury Lounge performance by England's Wild Beasts [ MySpace ] who "bring shape shifting melodies, dense textures, sophisticated compositions, sky-high falsettos, and libidinous lyrics to a very moody Mercury Lounge". That sounds intense, right? If that's got you intrigued, come check out the entire set "after the jump" [...]

'08's Music to Love More Than Music: Like, Pt. 9
Like ( ) Plants And Animals - Parc Avenue At times invoking the likes of Queen, but mostly sticking to chill-out grooves and feel good melodies. Plants and Animals - New Kind of Love Apes & Androids - Blood Moon I tried to listen to this album a good 6 or 7 times this year, and every time I started I would have something else to [...]
