With this year's 10th Anniversary Reissue of The Postal Service 's sole album, Give Up , fans of the band were treated to two new songs, the only new material since the original release of the album. The first was "Turn Around" , a mid-tempo song that was heavy on the bass drum. The second (and better, in my opinion) one was "A Tattered Line of String" , short and snappy number. [...]
This week, London electronic music producer Zomby is dropping his latest full-length album, With Love. It'll be on 4AD, and features over thirty tracks that span two discs. As the track "Overdose" shows, this guy is really working to diversity his sound, trying his hand at some very atomspheric, textured, and boom-y breakbeat electronica. Enjoy!

It feels good to have Mikky Ekko back. After the massive attention he got first with the Clams Casino -produced "Pull Me Down" and then with the stunning Rihanna -collaboration "Stay" he (or his label) decided it was best to lay low for a while and get to work on more of his own songs for a debut album to be released (hopefully) later this year. The first of this new material is "Kids" , a track which, more than either of those emotive numbers, recalls his early-early material [...]

Perhaps one of the most exciting things about next week's Glastonbury Festival is Arctic Monkeys' return to the pyramid stage, six years and two albums after their controversial headline slot back in 2007. A lot has changed since then (other than Alex Turner's hair), and the four piece have come a long way since their breakthrough nearly 10 years ago, adding deeper, more surprising aspects to their sound with each release. Although material has been sparse in the last year, recent singles 'R U Mine' and 'Evil Twin' would indicate Arctic's are seeking a heavier direction [...]

"Despite his struggling-artist-who-got-a-lu cky-break back story and the fact that, yes, he is a Grade 7 piano player, the only thing Odell can really claim to represent is commercial pop’s ever-evolving attempt to relieve us of our cash..." Tom Odell | Long Way Down Winning the BRITs’ Critics’ Choice Award is a bit like having your mum tell you that you look nice. It’s sweet and a compliment of sorts but no one ever became a pioneer of the musical avant-garde because their mum thought it brought out their eyes. Just looking at the list of previous [...]

Singer and songwriter Mikky Ekko was destined for a career in music and started turning heads on the song " Pull Me Down ," and then got some serious attention when he was featured on Rihanna 's "Stay." Now Ekko is back with a new track called "Kids," produced by Benny Blanco and John Hill who add the right touches to this in order for it to become a radio friendly tune. This will probably end up on Mikky's debut album, which is currently in the works. Stream the song below. [...]

Trails and Ways are a group that we've been posting about for a while here. It's been great watching their career blossom into something even more promising than I could have even predicted. I shouldn't be surprised, these guys know how to write a damn good tune. Their latest, "Come Te Vas" is another step forward for them, and it makes me very excited to finally get to see them live this weekend. If you're in NYC, be sure to catch them either Friday @ Pianos or Satuday @ Knitting Factory. You can find out how to [...]

I keep trying to rebel against chillwave. Or at least turn my nose up at it. I'm not sure why, but I think that I just keep expecting the whole 'lofi DIY' scene to fall apart under the weight of too many hipster-lite bedroom chancers with wacky names, too much time on their hands, and too many other hipster-lite bedroom chancers to look to for support and indulgence. Then someone like RIVKA comes along and drops their new EP and I just throw my arms in the air and jump right back in. [...]

We're not 100% sure DIZZY WOMACK went with that for his new alias (he was formally known as DJ Dizzy , for those playing at home), because we're pretty certain that none of his works sound like Dizzy Rascal or Bobby Womack . But regardless, we're still pretty psyched about his brand new EP. The Womack on the end of his name relates directly to the matured nature of this Austrian producer. He made a name for himself under the moniker of [...]

A month ago Arctic Monkeys premiered a new song called "Do I Wanna Know?" live . It's been floating around live and has been sounding great , but we have been craving more details about it, and the new album which it will be on which is looking at a potential September release date. The boys have released the official music video for the single, which serves as our first proper listen to the studio recorded version. It's also available to purchase from iTunes right now. The song sounds incredible, and is [...]

In recent weeks we've seen Arctic Monkeys debut new material at various live shows they've been playing, namely this new jam "Do I Wanna Know?" , which was recently debuted last month . Now, out of nowhere they've dropped the official audio and video for the track, which shows hints of tracks from Humbug . You can watch the video below as well as download it via iTunes already, so have at it! Connect with Arctic Monkeys : Facebook [...]

INDIAN SUMMER bring us their Foreign Formula EP, and it's another brilliant two track release - packed to the brim with bright and bubbly electronic creations. The lead single and title track, 'Foreign Formula', really takes everything that is booming in the bass scene currently and brings it to the forefront of the track. As expected, bass heavy beats are the mainstay of the sound, but there are genuine elements of R&B, as well as dance driven samples. It's future bass at 90bpm and seems to channel the funked out style of Eats Everything and [...]

"Confronted with a myriad of issues prior to its recording, it comes as no real surprise that Pythons, fails to measure up to it's predecessor..." Surfer Blood | Pythons Making a follow-up album to an acclaimed debut is incredibly difficult for the vast majority of bands. A band that must do so while making the sometimes contentious transition from an indie to a major label faces additional complexity. Throw in an arrest for domestic battery for your frontman and it becomes an almost impossible task. Confronted with this myriad of issues, it comes as no real [...]

Cosmo Sheldrake is insane. Of course, it's the great kind of insane; the kind that creates odd - but - great Tunes (with a capital T). Somehow, he always manages to outdo himself. So if his latest adventures saw him filming himself in a pigsty in the video for "Rich" or smashing slates into the Welsh mountains for some percussive noises in "The Fly" , now he's gone and found himself a group of fishermen to, of course, record a live take of a song on the boat [...]

If we asked you to name a swedish pop star, Robyn would no doubt be the first artist to spring to mind. In a few months however this may be a different story, as Frida Sundemo looks primed to take over (not that there cant be two electro pop goddesses in Sweden, it just makes it a bit more epic). At the tail end of last year, breakthrough track 'Indigo' well and truly launched Sundemo's career, and we described it as "a pop song in the truest form that echoes the best releases from Kylie and Girls Aloud". [...]

I try to make it a point to be as honest and blunt a journalist as I can be, so here's the honest truth: I'm not nearly as enamored with Kveikur as I was with last year's Valtari (which I gave a solid A, although the image doesn't appear to be available). Of course, Sigur Rós still blows me away with every album, but somehow Valtari managed to hit just the right chord and make me feel the way I hadn't felt since 20022s () , although I appear to be alone [...]
Dreamy Portland act Blouse return with a new track following their self-titled debut in 2011, an album that was full of sunburnt, warped synth-pop standouts led by Charlie Hilton's lofty vocals. "No Shelter" is the first taste from Imperium, out September 17 on ... Continue reading

PMR Records is having quite the moment. With the massive success gathered recently by Jessie Ware and, more recently, Disclosure , it seems that all they touch turns to gold. Of course, it could be that what they're working with to start with is gold, but regardless, they're doing something right. Their latest signing is the somewhat mysterious Dornik , who emerged last week to much fanfare. He is apparently Dornik Leigh, former drummer in Jessie Ware's touring band, though he occasionally got a bit of the spotlight . [...]

Spectrals’ sophomore effort, Sob Story , is a throwback in the truest sense of the term, bringing to mind the pub rock of the mid-70s so effortlessly played by the likes of Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello . The man behind Spectrals , Louis Jones, has mentioned Costello more than once as an influence. Like his bespectacled predecessor, Jones likes to genre hop, bringing a newfound interest in country that widens the sound of Spectrals . Add to this a confidence [...]

Chicago trio Smith Westerns are set to release their third album, Soft Will next week, after pushing it back from it's original June 11th date. You've already heard some of its highlights - "Varsity" , "3am Spiritual" , and "Idol" -, but the record as a whole is a cohesive work that shows just how much the band has grown since the release of 20112s great Dye It Blonde . We've had [...]
