In case you wanted to head to the Listening Room tonight, know that there will be no show tonight. The concert series is taking a hiatus for the summer to regroup and plan an awesome line up for the fall. On behalf of the Foundry and the Listening Room crew, I'd like to inform everyone that the Listening Room will be taking a hiatus for the summer. (Sheds single tear.) But actually, this is a happy hiatus. Since our team has rearranged we've been operating about one [...]
Prabir Mehta and the Trillions' manager Brandon Crowe spent the weekend putting the finishing touches on all things breakfast and released the official video for "I'm Getting Brunch with Brandon" from Prabir's new album "Breakfast Menu." He'll be releasing it at the next Listening Room show on May 21.

Patrick Bates is an independent songwriter based in Richmond who, over the years, has played in many bands including Autocue, Planar, The Clair Morgans, the Ash Bruce Trio and others. Four years ago, he started writing songs for a solo project and has since been playing shows all over the country. Now he's setting his touring eyes back to RVA. On Tuesday, March 19, he'll be debuting a new set of songs at The Listening Room with a new set of musicians backing him up. The evening will also feature the Mason [...]
Here's what you missed at last night's Listening Room with Lobo Marino and Zac Hryciak and the Jungle Beat .
Pittsburgh native turned Nashvillian (by way of Belmont, naturally), Brooke Annibale is set to release her new 6 song EP, Words In Your Eyes , today and celebrate with a set at The Listening Room tomorrow night. No Country has the pleasure of debuting her brand spankin' new video for "Middle of the Mess" and chatting with the artist herself. Check out the video below, get to know her better with the interview, and then head on over to Itunes where you can grab her [...]

Celebrate the third anniversary of the popular Listening Room series on Tuesday with performances by Daniel Levi Goans, Dave Watkins and the Low Branches . Daniel Levi Goans plays North Carolina folk music with his wife Lauren. Beautiful folk music in a silent environment. Make sure to head to this amazing concert series.

After a few months of missing the Listening Room, I finally made my way back to check out tonight's show (ER trip be damned!). This month's show was curated by Karen of "I Could Go On And On," so I knew there was no way I could miss this (she would have my head if I didn't make it). First up was Sweet Fern , made up of Joshua Bearman of the Hot Seats and Alison Self of herself. The duo played a lot of sweet old-time Americana tunes by the Carter Family and Conway [...]

There are some nights when so many thing are going on, it's both awesome and annoying. Going to have to take my pick from one of these to go to tonight. First up, The ever-popular Listening Room series presents its 30th installment featuring My Old Ways, Hezekiah Jones, Brad Hinton and Up the Chain Brooklyn synth indie rockers Yeasayer will be performing at the National. The band was formed in 2006 and consists of three core members, [...]

After a two month hiatus due the renovations of the Firehouse Theatre, the Listening Room returns on Tuesday, Feb. 21 and will feature Richmond's own The Moonbees and return guest Chris Kasper from Philadelphia. And remember, no talking.

Sofia Talvik live - photo by Virdeo Puro I'm currently freezing my fingers off in Tuscaloosa, AL where I'm playimg at the Bama Theatre tomorrow but as I'm in the Coffice (Starbucks) working, I figured I'd let you know a little about my upcoming stops on the tour. I'm playing in Nashville at The Listening Room Cafe on the 16th. And make sure you note the time, the gig is as early as 4.30pm! Then we're heading to Memphis for The Folk Alliance [...]

Sofia Talvik live on the Drivin' & Dreaming Tour I'm two months into touring and it's been a great experience so far. I have some really nice upcoming gigs that I wanted to share with you. These first few days of February I'm doing three shows in New Orleans, Louisiana. The first tonight at Neutral Ground Coffee House at 10pm, tomorrow February 2nd at Chickie Wah Wah at 8pm and on the 4th Fair Grinds Coffeehouse at 7.30pm. It's my first time in New Orleans and all the shows are [...]

Last night was the start of my Drivin' & Dreaming tour. I played at the Broward Folk Club's monthly event as the featured performer. The show was at a little holistic café with a very nice listening room. There were some good performers before me and a nice surprice was guitar virtuos Len Perry who also joined in on two of my songs. Thanks to the Broward Folk Club for inviting me and to everyone who came to listen! In Orlando before the gig [...]

The Listening Room celebrated its two year anniversary with another set of performances showing off why it's one of the best music showcases in Richmond. Arriving a bit early, I found it to be already packed. Since this is the last Listening Room for two months (the Firehouse Theatre is undergoing renovations), there was definitely something special to be had this evening. First up was Nelly Kate , who I had heard before but never got the chance to see live. From the moment she walked through the crowd banging sticks together and [...]

Tonight is the second anniversary of the awesome and popular Listening Room series. It's hard to believe that it's been two years since a group of musicians started a silent concert series in a church basement. And after two years, it's still one of the best concert series in Richmond. Year Three begins with performances by Nelly Kate , Bonnie Staley (of the Girtles ) and Cliff Boyd (of Sportsbar ) and James Wallace . It all [...]

If you weren't at last night's Listening Room, then you missed all of the following: Clint Maul changing his lyrics to be G-rated on the fly (thanks to the children in the front row) Antonia's amazing homemade snickerdoodles. Stolen Sheep playing their fuzzy, pop rock that captured everyone in the audience. They also played brand new material. "BANTER!" between the members of the Cinnamon Band between songs (acoustic this time around). A large crowd that stayed until the end. The lights NOT falling down for once. [...]

I will admit to not being a good Listening Room participant. I haven't been in a few months and was always bummed I was missing new acts. I made a resolve to check out last night's show and it was nothing less than a perfect return to the series. Matt Lisk started off the evening with a collection of mellow acoustic songs on guitar as well as piano (a baby grand stood at the side of the stage). He whistled the guitar part of one song, dedicated beautiful songs to his [...]

This month's Listening Room shows features the lovely sounds of Small Houses (all the way from Michigan), Chris Campanelli and the Dusty Jackets from New York & Charlottesville and Richmond rockers Haze & the Transients . It all takes place tonight at the Firehouse Theatre. 8 p.m. sharp! Small Houses - Country Flowers Small Houses - North [...]

Photo by Rob Jefferson This Saturday marks the last show of The Speckled Bird with mandolin/ banjo/ guitar player (and all around great guy) Chris Edwards. The band will be performing at Brown's Island as part of Dominion Riverrock . Chris is getting married at the end of the month and then moving to Portland, Oregon for academic pursuits. Besides being an awesome musician who was a constant staple around town, he also cared deeply about the music scene and along with other members of the Foundry, developed [...]
