We did it! We've made it to the end of my Top 50 Albums of 2009 countdown, as well as the end of Listmas. I hope you've enjoyed the wealth of year-end lists that I've shared with you, and of course I'm also eager to hear your own thoughts on things like the best songs and albums of the year. Feel free to tell me your favorites in the comments section, or leave a link if you've got that stuff posted someplace. It's been a wild ride, I've lost a lot of sleep, but have had a ton of fun. ![[Listmas 2009] The Top 50 Albums of the Year #20-11](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2203167_lg.jpg)
We're getting oh so close to my Top 10 albums of 2009 that I can just taste it. I hope you've enjoyed what's popped up so far on the list, and that you'll also enjoy what's to come. Today's roster of #20-11 captures a bunch of different styles and moods, from upbeat synth-pop to minimalist rock to pure metal. As tomorrow will mark my final 10 albums of the year, along with the end of Listmas for 2009, let me quickly offer you a couple hints as to what you can expect. There are THREE female solo artists in the [...]
![[Listmas 2009] The Top 50 Albums of the Year #30-21](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2200467_lg.jpg)
We've hit mid-week, and that essentially means mid-list on my Top 50 Albums of 2009. I hope it's been as enjoyable for you so far as it has been for me. Today's 10 albums feature mostly full-length debuts, along with my favorite lo-fi release of 2009. It only gets better from here folks, so let's get to it, my Top 50 Albums of 2009, #30-21! 30. Real Estate - Real Estate (Download: Beach Comber ) The housing market may have been down in 2009, but Real Estate has certainly been up, releasing [...]

Day number two of my Top 50 Albums of 2009 countdown is here, and along with that comes another set of excellent releases you may or may not have heard of prior to now. Today's 10 albums are pretty well all over the chart from a genre standpoint, and I didn't always hear a lot about them other places, so hopefully this will get them more attention. That being said, let's continue on with Listmas, and my favorite albums of the year, #40-31! 40. Fanfarlo - Reservoir (Download: Luna ) The gentlemen [...]
![[Listmas 2009] The Top 50 Albums of the Year #50-41](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2194998_lg.jpg)
Welcome to my Top 50 Albums of 2009! Like last week's Top 50 Songs of 2009 , this will be another week-long countdown of my favorites, this time we're talking full-length records. It's all a continuation of my month-long exploration of the year's best that I like to call Listmas. Anyways, before we get started on my Top Albums, I should cover the one rule I had while making this list. In order to qualify, the album had to have been released in the 2009 calendar year by a legitimate record label. That basically sums it up, though I [...]

Well my friends, we've made it through the week. It's taken a good 5 days to count down my 50 favorite songs of the year, and today marks the official wrap-up of this list. We've been all over the musical genre chart this week, and I've got one last set of 10 for you to feast your eyes on. These are the best of the best, my 10 favorite tracks of 2009. If you've been reading other people's favorite songs lists, you've probably seen a few of these in their Top 10 as well. There's a reason for that, and [...]
![[Listmas 2009] The Top 50 Songs of the Year #20-11](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2184986_lg.jpg)
Welcome to Day 4 of 5 in my Top 50 Songs of 2009 list. Yesterday we broke down song numbers 30 through 21 and today we break into the top 20. As we drift closer to my 10 favorite songs of the year (tomorrow), you may want to start paying closer attention to what artists are making appearances for hints as to where things might be headed next week when I count down the Top 50 Albums of the year. Anyways, thanks for reading and sticking through the week so far. Here's 10 more of my favorite songs from this [...]
![[Listmas 2009] The Top 50 Songs of the Year #30-21](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2182522_lg.jpg)
Welcome to Wednesday, where we reach the middle of our Top 50 Songs of 2009 countdown. Today's 10 songs are all over the map, ranging from psychedelic to 90's inspired lo-fi punk to pop and dance floor jams. Mostly though, these songs are just a whole lot of fun. So let's continue forwards on our week-long journey through the best and brightest tracks of the year with numbers 30 through 21. 30. Foreign Born - Vacationing People Honestly, I really like the new Foreign Born album "Person [...]
![[Listmas 2009] The Top 50 Songs of the Year #40-31](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2181485_lg.jpg)
Oh, what do you want me to say. We're on Day #2 of this 5 day trip through my 50 favorite songs of 2009. And of course if you thought that yesterday was good, I hope you'll feel that today is even better. Consistently improving, that's the aim here. So now that this half-assed introduction is taken care of, let's go through the next section of this list, my Top 50 Songs of the year, #40-31! 40. Julian Casablancas - 11th Dimension Apparently I liked the Julian Casablancas solo album much more than most [...]
![[Listmas 2009] The Top 50 Songs of the Year #50-41](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2178533_lg.jpg)
Okay, so the big deal this week in the artificial world I've created known as Listmas are my Top 50 Songs of 2009. I'll be covering 50 songs across the 5 weekdays, and talking just a little bit about each. To sum up this year in songs...is actually very difficult for me. Much more challenging than my Top 50 Albums list, which I'll do next week. There's typically at least 10x more songs in any given year than there are albums, assuming you count every track on every album and EP and single. There's no realistic way of harnessing and [...]
![[Listmas 2009] The Top 10 EPs of the Year](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2173387_lg.jpg)
The EP is something of a funny thing. In today's digital world, with all the emphasis on singles and the general decrease of interest in the full length album, the EP occupies the space in between. So if the single is hot and the album is cold, does that make the EP lukewarm? I don't really know, but as the middle child, the EP is often ignored. Often the EP is used as something of a stopgap for artists between albums, mostly to keep fans interested and engaged while they wait. Sometimes an EP can also function as a way [...]
![[Listmas 2009] The Top 10 Independent Films of the Year](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2168930_lg.jpg)
Though this site is pretty much exclusively devoted to music and music coverage, on occasion I like to make mention of a great movie that's coming out, or in the case of Listmas, like to give credit to my favorite independent films released this past calendar year. Typically every year there's a fair share of smaller movies that come out which don't always make it to the wider marketplace/tiny towns where some of us with discerning tastes might live. I don't know about you, but I'm not always willing to travel 30-40 minutes to see a critically acclaimed independent film [...]
![[Listmas 2009] The Top 5 Concerts of the Year](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2165378_lg.jpg)
I just finished doing a little math. If you add up virtually every single band that I saw live in 2009, the number is somewhere around 75. That of course includes the massive influx of sets you see at your average music festival, this year in which I attended two. That's a lot of shows to mentally recall, and honestly I probably don't remember them all. The ones I don't remember though are the ones that aren't worth remembering in the first place. I caught a few dreadful sets, but for the most part most bands and artists I paid [...]
![[Listmas 2009] A Glance Back at 2008](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2164875_lg.jpg)
Hello my good friends and delightful readers! For those of you unfamiliar or at the very least unclear on the concept, allow me to welcome you to a time of year that I call Listmas! The basic idea behind Listmas is shockingly simple. I devote the entire month of December to year-end lists of various kinds. The rest of this week will sort of be an odds-and-sods sort of collection of items, and then the two weeks following will tackle my annual Top 50 Songs and Top 50 Albums of 2009 lists, piece by piece. So welcome, I hope you [...]
![[Listmas 2008]: The Top 50 Albums Of The Year (#10-1)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1422827_lg.jpg)
After a small delay thanks to multiple holiday parties and working overtime at my real job because many of my co-workers are on vacation, the good news is that this is finally up. In my list of best albums for the year, the top ten are always the most important (naturally). Consequently, this is also my absolute favorite post every year, so I hope you thoroughly enjoy it. To restate what I said when I started this Top 50 Albums countdown last week, all albums and their placement on this list was decided in mid-November before most everyone [...]
![[Listmas 2008]: The Top 50 Songs Of The Year (#50-26)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1419351_lg.jpg)
With an original plan of dragging my Top 50 Songs of 2008 list out for the entire week, my very busy holiday work schedule and the arrest of the Governor of Illinois put a wrench into everything. So instead, we'll be doing the Top 50 Songs list in 2 parts, with 25 songs apiece. What can I say about the year in songs? Honestly, not a whole lot. This year's music was surprisingly great, but I find myself thinking back more to specific albums rather than individual songs. So coming up with this list was a little bit [...]
![[Listmas 2008]: The Top 50 Albums Of The Year (#40-31)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1419257_lg.jpg)
Alright kids, we're just starting to get revved up in terms of this Top 50 Albums countdown. Yesterday I covered albumse 50-41, and today we continue with albums 40-31. Naturally then, we'll have wrapped this whole thing up by the end of the week. I'd say that today features some really great albums, but every day of this countdown features really great albums. And so, let's just keep this going. If you're looking for any and all entries concerning my Top 50 Albums of 2008, click here . 40. Drive-By Truckers - Brighter [...]

What's going to make the final cut? Check back and find out! For the rest of my Top 50 Albums of 2008, click here ! 20. Mount Eerie - Lost Wisdom (Download: Flaming Home ) Sure, I've been disappointed by the dissolution of The Microphones a few years ago, but Phil Elverum carries the mantle onwards with Mount [...]

As it is mid-week, we are naturally approaching the middle of Faronheit's Top 50 Albums of 2008 countdown. We've already covered so much, and by the end of the week we'll have covered so much more. That last sentence is a little something I like to call "filler." Hope you enjoyed it. Now then, on with the countdown! For complete coverage of my Top 50 Albums of 2008 list, click here ! 30. Little Joy - Little Joy (Download: Don't Watch Me Dancing ) No offense to Albert Hammond [...]

Welcome back. It's Day 2 of Faronheit's Top 50 Albums of 2008 countdown, today featuring numbers 40 through 31. Lots of exciting picks yesterday, even more today. There's not much else I've got to say, except maybe that if you want to have a look at #50-41 from yesterday, you can click here . It's that easy! 40. Drive-By Truckers - Brighter Than Creation's Dark The difference between alt-country and straight up country can be a very thin line. No band knows this better than the Drive-By Truckers, who have often [...]
