We're mere hours away from starting the weekend, and with the season finale of football over, we'll actually have to go outside. Luckily, there are tons of great shows, and many fundraising for a good cause, over the next few days. Let's get to it. FRIDAY SOFT SPEAKER The Brit pop-inspired Chicago outfit come out swinging with plenty of lingering guitar licks, hazy psychedelic rhythms and even some [...]
Adele Before we get to see Adele perform on stage for the first time since undergoing a successful surgery to treat a vocal cord hemorrhage back in November at the 54th annual Grammy Awards this Sunday, we get to hear her sing for the first time since the surgery in a preview clip of her interview with Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes. The Electric Soft Parade live at The Haunt, Brighton (4 Feb '12) // Words: Simon Opie There's something in the now customary live event of playing a classic album in its entirety. I've seen a few such gigs and they've always been good. But I can honestly say that this was a gig I'll never forget. It was essentially to celebrate [...]
Anna Calvi showed up on Daytrotter with some cool live tracks. The rendition of her "Love Won't Be Leaving" is my favorite here, what with the almost schizo shifts from sweet vocals and guitarwork to power distorted versions. The TV on the Radio cover, "Wolf Like Me," is good but a little too tame for my tastes since the original's so rocking.
POP SINGLES.
Caught the end of these guys the other week when they supported Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. Finally got round to tracking them down and man, they do kill. Pop Singles kinda sound like Geoffrey O'Connor and classic local stuff like Go Betweens. They are great song writers - quite intricate at times, but, in [...]

[video] of Montreal // Dour Percentage (Live on Jimmy Fallon)
Tweet vaso link Despite the mixed reviews in response to their new album, Paralytic Stalks , of Montreal took to the Jimmy Fallon stage and cranked out a nice version of the most accessible track from the album, "Dour Percentage." I'm still not sold on all of the band's output, but I do like this track. And Kevin Barnes looks about as normal as I've ever seen him. Paralytic Stalks is out now through the folks at [...]

Rhye- "Open" (Live in a living room…)
For a project that wants to remain anonymous, Rhye sure is trying to make waves with its music. So, in support of the fantastically beautiful song " Open ," the project has seen fit to release a video performing the song. A video, yes, but it doesn't exactly feature the identities of those involved in Rhye. Rather, it seems to be shot from behind the musicians as an audience of one quietly listens with great intent.
[Watch] The Kills - "The Last Goodbye" Live on Letterman
Last night at the Ed Sullivan Theater, Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince rocked up to put in a touching and heart wrenching performance of their track "The Last Goodbye" on the Late Show with David Letterman . The sombre track was performed by a pink haired Mosshart and it's hard to look away as the gentle track takes you through a ride of emotions. Check it out at the top courtesy of The Audio Perv . I'm sure Rocko is enjoying the sex-hair in this video. The Kills ' "The Last Goodbye" [...]
Live Gig Video: I Dream in Colour's Richard Judge performs a cover of Oasis' '(It's Good) to Be Free'
Richard Judge, the frontman of I Dream in Colour and a previous celebrity guest reviewer for us here at TGTF, have revealed this solo cover of a lesser known track by Manchester Britpop masters Oasis. '(It's Good) to Be Free appeared as one of three B-sides to the 1994 single 'Whatever'. Watch the performance below that's sure to raise some hairs on the back of your neck in awe. MP3 of the Day (and more!) #490: Big Deal
Big Deal 's new video is for the song 'Talk', and the story plays on a metaphor for a broken relationship. (Well, that's my best guess anyway. A guy comes back to the girl he hurt, because he knows she's "safe" and can heal him.) It dawned on me that we never gave away a free track from the duo, 'Chair'. (You can grab the mp3 here. ) And since we're big about giving here at TGTF, I've also embedded a live performance of 'Chair' below as well. Enjoy! [...]

Anna Calvi – "Welcome to Daytrotter" (Daytrotter Session)

The Shins ' fourth studio album Port Of Morrow is set for release on March 20th, and so far we've heard the lead single from the album as well as its b-side. The single, titled " Simple Song ," was released last month, with it's b-side, titled " September ," following suit one month later. Now, during a solo performance at San Diego radio station 91X , the band's frontman James Mercer debuted a brand new track called "It's Only Life." [Watch] Bon Iver and The Roots - "Perth" (Extended 8-minute jam on Fallon)
A few weeks ago, Bon Iver visited the set of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon where he performed his album opener "Perth." Now, weeks later, video has surfaced of an incredible jam session that took place between The Roots and Bon Iver. The result? An 8-minute extended version of "Perth," which you can watch above courtesy of Beats Per Minute .
LISTEN: Jack and Ace – "I'm Sorry That You Are the Black Death"
Chicago musicians Bob Nanna and Lauren LoPiccolo have united to create simple, but dreamy, acoustic pop ditties under the moniker Jack and Ace . "I'm Sorry That You are the Black Death" pairs delicately plucked guitar melodies with earnest lyrics about, what else, love. Jack and Ace prove that melancholy doesn't need to be so complicated to be effective. Nanna is better known for his work with influential post-hardcore (or emo, if you like) outfit Braid and Hey Mercedes. LoPiccolo previously teamed up with Nanna in the City on Film. [...]
