Friday night. Free gig. Black Moth . Pints of booze. Hugh Platt . Review. BOSH. 6 things we learned watching Black Moth and God Damn in London... 1) Due to unforeseen circumstances, Black Moth's labelmates Limb weren't able to play their advertised opening support slot tonight. Header photo by TGTF Head Photographer Martin Sharman Home-grown boys Alpha Male Tea Party ’s set started abruptly, causing the amassed gaggle of hipsters to spill their cans of Tuborg. The three-piece. who could only be described as being dressed like male ejaculate, ripped into their set with a wave of screeching guitars passing over the crowd in Screenadelica, a venue which did its best to remind you of a scene from any poor horror film, but with more attractive artwork. They busted out the [...]

Just a few weeks ago FatCat Records announced the signing of His Clancyness - the solo project of Canada's Jonathan Clancy. A cassette EP will see the light of day on May 20th featuring two new tracks from his forthcoming Vicious LP and, on the flip side, four of his bedroom recorded numbers that caused such an initial stir when they first surfaced. Machines was the lead track from the release and we were instantly hooked. Beautifully realised krautrock that channeled the heady eagerness of [...]

Martin's high-res photos from the Thursday can be viewed on his Flickr. Acts of the day: Moongaï , Findlay , The Oreoh!s Venue of the day: Kazimier Gardens It wasn't until the final night of Liverpool Sound City 2013 , whilst tramping up Seel Street for the umpteenth time that weekend, that I had a flash of the blindingly obvious: that people other than music fans are allowed to party [...]
My first ever experience of live music was at a festival so they hold a special place in my heart. Having frequented them for the past 10 years they never cease to get me excited. Big or small, they're just the best way to spend a day or weekend. I've especially always enjoyed Festivals that take place within a city. The UK has an ever growing one day festival scene and this year, the first one I got to go enjoy was Live at Leeds . Surprisingly, I rarely jump on the one hour train to Leeds from Manchester [...]

I think it must have been a compilation CD that came with CMJ Magazine that included a song from the 902s band Grant Lee Buffalo that lured me to purchase Mighty Joe Moon in 1994 or so. The album kicks off with the searing guitars of "Lone Star Song" and proceeds to swing bipolar between sweet folky acoustic and burning electrics all housed in HUGE unabashed reverb like only the 902s could deliver. Needless to say this was exactly what my then 26-year-old self thought was the best thing ever! Playing though [...]
