We had a Live Lounge gem on Saturday as the normally-sincere Daughter showed her fun side by rehashing Daft Punk's Get Lucky ... She has previous here, does Daughter - see this past mash-up of Bon Iver and Hot Chip, for instance: Click here to view the embedded video.
Daughter 's got a sound that's familiar - their album is a consistent mix of Local Natives instrumentation and Rhye vocals floating in the sad Bon Iver sea - but surprisingly malleable in new contexts. The UK-based trio can translate anywhere from ultra-spare (as in their live mashup of " Perth/Ready for The Floor ") to lush and explosive (as in this remix of " Medicine ," which has become a vital part of my daily I'm Starving, Feed Me Beats musical mood swing). This weekend, Daughter covered Daft Punk's already ubiquitous "Get Lucky" for BBC [...]
With their previous single, 'Chocolate', eating up the radio and scoring the band their first UK top 20, we were delighted to help premiere their new single, 'The City ', a few weeks ago. In support of it, the group stopped by Phil Taggart's BBC Radio 1 show this week for a live session, which included this cover of Chris Malinchak's sun-drenched 'So Good To Me'. The new arrangement, which sees singer Matt Healy make a rare appeearance on piano, strips back and slows down the original, transforming it into an ice-cold monochrome masterpiece. [...]
It was only a month ago that Daughter visited Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show and unveiled their beautiful, haunting mash up of Bon Iver's 'Perth' and Hot Chip's 'Ready For The Floor'. Well this week they returned to Radio 1 for another live session, and this time tackled Daft Punk's phenomenally hooky 'Get Lucky', which premiered last week and features Nile Rogers and Pharrell Williams. Again, they transform the original into a slow-burning torch song, complete with airy, echo-drenched guitars wafting through the background and Elena Tonra's distinctive vocal sitting front and centre. [...]
Daughter performed a cover of Daft Punk's new single "Get Lucky" in the BBC Live Lounge yesterday on the Huw Stephens show . It's a slightly more chilled version than the Pharrelll featuring original and I've gotta say I prefer this version. Previously: Daughter - Human
Rudimental and Ella Eyre smashed their cover of Paramore's "Now" in the BBC Live Lounge last week. They even threw in a bit of Bob Marley too! You can watch their cover above and Rudimental's performance of their current single "Waiting All Night" below. Previously: Rudimental - Hell Could Freeze ft. Angel Haze
Following the release of their latest album If You Leave , Indie Folk trio Daughter passed by BBC Maida Vale studio's for a quick session which included a mashup cover of Bon Iver's "Perth" and Hot Chip's "Ready For The Floor" . A great idea that come out sounding even better!
On Monday Peace release their much-anticipated debut album, In Love . This week the group stopped by BBC Radio 12s Live Lounge with Huw Stephens to perform a special, jazz-lounge version of recent single 'Follow Baby' and a now-traditional cover in the form of Bruno Mars' 'Locked Out of Heaven'. The cover is perhaps the more interesting thing here and showcases a great vocal from Harry Koisser as well as a nodding mash-up into The Police's 'Message In a Bottle', while the rendition of 'Follow Baby' chooses to leave the bombast at the door. [...]
Another impromptu, yet impressive track comes out BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge today. While AlunaGeorge was performing tracks off of their debut album Body Talk they decided to record a jazzy influenced rendition of "I Wanna Be Like You," from the Jungle Book after singing "Diver," and "Attracting Flies." Frightened Rabbit are on the verge of releasing their fourth studio album, the absolutely wonderful Pedestrian Verse . To celebrate this the Scottish quartet popped by Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show this week to play a few new tracks including this, the record's first single, The Woodpile. It is a brilliantly faithful rendition, with Scott Hutchinson's rich brogue punching through the guitars and clattered drums. It is the sound of a band standing on the edge of big, big things. The indie pop duo AlunaGeorge are no strangers to taking creative liberty on popular songs and reinventing them in their own way in a live setting. The group stopped by BBC Maida Vale Studios to record this Frank Ocean cover in a 2013 Live Lounge Special. AlunaGeorge cover's the lead off single, "Thinking Bout You," from Ocean's debut album, Channel Orange. Frank Ocean - Thinking Bout You (AlunaGeorge Cover)
The xx bring us this cover/remix of Wham!’s “Last Christmas” recorded live on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. Beautiful song. Enjoy. Last Christmas - The xx - Wham! cover
With The xx once again scaling the dizzying heights of most critics Best of Year lists for their second album, Coexist , the London three-piece hardly needed to give us much more, yet along with a visit to Radio 12s Live Lounge today, the group have put their take on Wham!'s Christmas classic up for free download. It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from The xx covering Wham! I.e all the frivilous campness is replaced by brooding intenstity and scowls. Cheer up chums, Christmas is just around the corner.
Monday Music’s the one weekly post wherein Some Of It Was True! drops its London-only rule American Royalty - Honey & Queen ( mp3 ) Sexy, grainy psych-pop for the tortured, tousled LA hipster, only with nerdy keyboard loops thrown in.
