Dirty Projectors by Becky Rother The energy around Lincoln Hall Thursday night was palpable as the crowd from Dirty Projectors ’ early show dispersed and more fans arrived for the second show of the night. Both had sold out weeks ago, and it was clear that those who’d bought tickets had been looking forward to the night for a long time. The venue filled up more quickly than normal, perhaps because of the later start time (inside doors opened at 9:30 pm), but also perhaps because the band has amassed a [...]
Boughton House, Northamptonshire 30th August – 1st September 2013 "The UK’s most exciting dance music festival" returns for its second year and they've finally revealed their first headliners. It's going on longer, it's got more capacity, its in an enchanted woodland and Safari Spas - what more do ya bloody want? The chosen players and [...] The post Reach for the lazers! If 2013 had a buzzband, Scotland’s CHVRCHES would be it. For a band with only six songs on the Internet, and a few remixes (like this fantastic MS MR remix ), they’ve done remarkably well on this tour, selling out two nights here in Chicago and in New York and Washington, D.C., probably thanks to our coverage here on Listen Before You Buy, and maybe also some love from Pitchfork . Whatever the cause, the excitement is fully justified. My skepticism was cast aside almost immediately as the trio took the [...]

We are back in Manhattan, Kansas playing our favorite joint, Auntie Mae's! Show starts around 9:30.
On the Monday after Bonnaroo last year, I left the farm completely drained. While our shuttle winded its way off the grounds, past crews breaking down the stages, I spotted the giant Mr. T float. As it disappeared from sight behind a row of trees, I considered his waving, ever-smiling visage a final farewell. After all, what could top that Radiohead set? Well, needless to say, I'm headed back. And whether you are or are not attending this year, press play on this festival preview to hear from some of the best acts performing this year. [...]
Unfortunately, the conclusion of a music festival means the inevitable return to reality! While, myself and others attempt to recuperate in between 9-5 work days, I think we should make an equal effort to apply some inertia to this process by listening to this year's stand-out artists and headliners. Enjoy the remainder of the week, and prepare for your next festival adventure! 1. Original post: Governors Ball 2013: Festival Wrap Up, Ft. MS MR, Cold War Kids, Kendrick Lamar + More [...]

As you've probably all heard by now, the theme of this year's Governors Ball can be summed up by one word: mud. The festival, which has not only expanded from a one day event to a two day event to a three day event in consecutive, but also extended from one stage to two stages to four stages, seemed to have taken a page out of All Points West (or All Points Wet) for the unlucky rain, storms, and all-encompassing mud. Regardless, it was a weekend chock full of good [...]

Brooklyn indie band Grizzly Bear are gonna be in Miami Beach next Tuesday, June 18th for a show at The Fillmore . Our friends at The Fillmore have asked us if we'd like to do a giveaway for the show, so of course we had to say yes! I know Mike has been a big fan of theirs who has covered them for years. Grizzly Bear is supporting their 2012 album [...]

Something terrible clearly happened to Baths ' Will Wiesenfeld between his first and second albums. The album art alone serves as a good indication of the contrast between the lovely white-and-blue Cerulean and the dark, purple-tinged Obsidian . The same can be said for the visuals in his live show: while selections from the former made use of Metro lighting’s beautiful full palette of golds and blues, his new music was all reds and purples and intense strobe lights. [...]
Texas Is The Reason have announced what will be the band's final run of shows in Europe and the UK during July and August. The influential 902s NYC band released 'Do You Know Who You Are?: The Complete Collection" earlier this year containing every recording the band has prodcued to date plus unreleased material If [...] The post Texas Is The Reason announce Final European tour appeared first on Cougar Microbes .

Tonight we return to the Gramophone in St. Louis, Missouri and we are joined by local talent, the Royal Smokestacks! Doors are at 9, show starts at 10.

Photography by Melissa Scheinberg After a successful first day , it was time for Day 2 of the first-ever Boston Calling . Day two's lineup, co-curated by The National 's Aaron Dessner , was definitely art rock-heavy - especially compared to the previous day's synth-pop-heavy lineup, thus bringing in a very different vibe and audience. I arrived just as local post-rockers Caspian were finishing up their speaker-blowing set, so I headed straight over to the secondary stage for Youth Lagoon . While Youth [...]
I first heard The Neighbourhood's "Sweater Weather" off the shoddy stereo in a dodgy rental car and the song has haunted/followed me ever since. Their debut album 'I Love You' is a great listen offering several highs along it's eleven track journey. The Californian's profile has rightly risen and the band are out on their [...] The post The Neighbourhood to release limited split 73 singles to celebrate US Tour appeared first on Cougar Microbes .

Sure, it was a Wednesday night, and sure, the show didn’t start till 9 pm, but you’d have thought there would be more people around to see Beacon ’s first show in Chicago since the April 30 release of their first full-length album, The Ways We Separate . While it may be their first full album, the duo has been busy, releasing two prior EPs within a year of signing to Ghostly International. There was a decent crowd for opener Taught Abroad , whose set looked as [...]

Another festival comes and goes in San Francisco, and if you were lucky to have gone to the 14th annual O'Reilly's Guinness Oyster & Music Festival last Saturday, you witnessed the best one to date. Each and every year, or at least the last five years I've attended, O'Reilly productions continue to outdo themselves. This year was the first year that I can recall where there were two separate music stages (good news if you are a music fan). and because of that, I believe it drew record crowds. Now, the crowds that this festival usually attracts are not [...]

oh, happy tuesday, peoples! so t-minus about 65 hours i, and the family, will be on the road to chicago. back home for the first time in two years. sucks we only make it back every two years, but it is what it is, i suppose. either way, el famous burrito, white castle, italian beefs, and the good beer i cant find here in louisiana will be in my stomach, soon... very soon. so here we have a great elliott show, probably one of the better ones i have heard, but i am no expert in terms of his shows. [...]

Pretty excited about the Charli XCX show we have coming up this Saturday, June 8th at our weekly party His & Hers at The Garret . First heard about UK's Charli XCX when Aramis would play "You (Ha Ha Ha)" back when we first started His & Hers earlier this year, and every time he did I would be like "who is that?" Amazingly catchy tune that I still have not gotten tired of. Since then I [...]
