![[VIDEO] Trampled by Turtles – “Midnight on the Interstate”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4956345_lg.jpg)
"Midnight on the Interstate" has always been one of my favorite songs on Trampled by Turtles' most recent album Stars and Satellites . After making this video for the tune I love it even more. It's cute.... ya I said it, cute. The Duluth area natives have become pretty much a household name throughout the state. In fact, when i used to think about the face of Minnesota music I used to immediately think of Atmosphere . Now, there's come times when I think Trampled by Turtles seems more appropriate. They're two completely separate [...]

“I think of it as being kind of like the space program in 1960s,” said Daniel Armbruster when asked about the level of experimentation involved in creating Joywave’s latest release. “Each mission was about accomplishing a certain goal that ultimately was about putting a person on the moon. ‘Alright, Mercury we’re going to have people circle the Earth. Gemini , we’re going to have crafts docking. Eventually, we’re going to get there.’ That’s kind of the same philosophy I guess we take to our music.” If you were to look at the cover art for Joywave’s [...]
BMK FAM Petite Noir has been hard at work touring Europe, being on billboards for some of the biggest brands in the world, just living life... but we get to show you some visuals which represent all the hard work done. He is making strides and doing us proud.

Kansas City trio Not A Planet have the potential to be that next band to step to the next level. Much like the ACBs or Cowboy Indian Bear, the group has mastered the art of taking familiar sounds and recontexualizing them into something fresh and exciting. Unfortunately, Not A Planet has yet to direct their sound into something consistent. While, yes, a band needs to diversify and do more than perform the same song repeatedly over the course of 10-12 tracks, some sort of thematic or tonal through-line helps. While the gentleman of Not A Planet [...]

Finding a way to accurately describe a band to someone without them actually hearing an artist's music can sometimes be a difficult task. This time, Step Rockets described themselves for us. As quoted from their website , they sound like "Pink Floyd and The Clash playing at an MGMT party." I couldn't help but get a good laugh from reading this because after I thought about it for awhile, it was a pretty accurate description. They may be found in either the alternative or indie rock section at the local record store but they bring [...]

Pretty psyched for the Kitsune Club Night party going down this Saturday, May 11th at our weekly love child event with PopLife , His & Hers at The Garret . On this night the amazing Fred Falke (one of our all time fave producers) will be manning the decks for what is sure to be an amazing night of dance floor action. Finally, new shit from World's End Press. A heady, sprawling, deep number. This one comes from their forthcoming Tim Goldsworthy produced album. It's not an official single, just a taste of the record. I've really been enjoying watching these guys grow over the years, and seeing the inevitable fulfil itself: That WEP will grow bigger than Australia will able to handle. The band are headed to the USA for some dates in early June: WORLD'S END PRESS US DATES Wed June 5 - Mercury Lounge, NY Thurs June 6 [...]

batteryboy is an indie folk group that was once just a one man show featuring Cobey Rouse. Over time it has grown into a trio that includes Shannon Frid of Cloud Cult and Eric Carranza of Better Bones . Their sound is a soothing and relaxing one, perfect for those calm, contemplative moments. Rouse's guitar picking is accented by Frid's violin perfectly, all providing the backdrop for beautiful vocal harmonies. Throw Carranza's keys and guitar work into the mix and you've got yourself some nearly perfect tunes to just sit back and relax to. Their [...]
![[EVENT] First Avenue Presents Youngblood Hawke @ Triple Rock Social Club (05/6)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4931331_lg.jpg)
If you haven't seen Youngblood Hawke , make sure you do not miss this show. In the past I have only seen them as an opener. But now, in support of their debut album Wakeup (released in April), they're headlining their own tour across the country. Wakeup picks up right where their debut five song EP left off. A string of poppy tunes that have the ability to appeal to rock and pop fans alike. I liken them to a group like Grouplove . High energy performances that catch unsuspecting listeners by surprise and have people [...]

Cape Town based rapper Youngsta shot by Kristin-Lee Moolman and styled by Young and Lazy.

CHAPPO + Nevada Color + Chupacabra 6119 Penn / 05.06 / 9:00 / $10 Words by Brendan Last time of Montreal came to town, I had to go. They're one of my favorite all-time bands, so I wasn't going to miss that. I met some friends there early on to catch the first opener, when the place still wasn't packed. Not having any expectations, I was kinda blown away by the energy of CHAPPO . [...]

Nightdrive Miami and Fordistas XII have been silently working on this very exciting project for the past couple months and now is the time to officially divulge what we've been up to. One of the best parts about being in South Florida is the tremendous cultural momentum we're experiencing, not only in the visual and performing arts, but in music as well. So naturally when new and innovative producers and musicians come along with strong Miami roots, we feel obligated to showcase Miami's emerging talent. With that said, it's our pleasure to introduce to you Dude [...]

The first ever Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit has just announced their lineup for 2013. The festival takes place in Asheville, NC on October 25th through the 27th. Mountain Oasis is programmed and produced by AC Entertainment , the company that helped put together MoogFest. Towards the end of last year, Moog Music and AC Entertainment split up when Moog declined to renew its licensing agreement with AC. Mountain Oasis now takes the place of MoogFest as AC Entertainment's presence in North Carolina. The Mountain Oasis festival will take place the same weekend and location as previous [...]
Logic is a local rapper from Maryland who is making it big. Quick off signing a major label contract with Def Jam, Logic releases this intense track to act as a teaser for his upcoming project "Welcome To Forever". "Nasty" shows off Logic's insane flow and great wordplay over a fast paced beat courtesy of Don Cannon. Look out, this kid is going places. Check out the video after the jump.

The local artist of the week feature is typically reserved for bands that have an established following and are on the cusp of making it big on a national level. Instead, today I wanted to bring forth a group that is incredibly new but within their songs you can find signs of a bright musical future. The Karma Kicks are a rock trio out of St. Paul made up of Andy Arvidson, Dave Abbot, and Andy Vogl. Their official formation came in 2012 but they've been friends for the better part of a decade. They [...]
![[SHOW REVIEW] 89.3 The Current presents CLOUD CULT](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4919683_lg.jpg)
Yesterday was easily the most beautiful day we've had in Minneapolis this year. So, why not bike to the Cloud Cult CD Release Show at First Ave ? The band would have wanted me to enjoy the weather and protect the earth. I mean that. Craig Minowa and the rest of his earth-loving, big-hearted cohorts always seem so appreciative and modest that I wouldn't be surprised if they cared about each member of the audience individually. With a full house, Cloud Cult officially introduced us to the live experience that is Love . A [...]

It's nearly the end of the month and it's clear to us all now that April just plain sucked (unless you got married or whatever - congrats). But for the US as a whole, and Texas and Boston especially, kind of a shitty time. So let's just all collectively exhale and try to start May off on a better note. I made this mix for you including new tracks from k-os, Das Racist, RZA, Shlohmo, The Hood Internet, Lakutis, and Zilla Rocca so you can start early. Love you guys. : Dilated Peoples, Havoc, And Guru - Worst [...]
