To ask Matt Latterell himself, you wouldn't expect there to be anything too remarkable about his new album, Life on Land. But then it isn't exactly in Latterell's character to go around singing his o
Radioboxer Vane: Vocals Jota: Bass/guitar Santos: Guitar/Bass Esteban: Guitar Gian: Keyboards Alex: Drums What’s the origin of your band name? My (Jota Dazza) grandfather was a doctor, but he had two passions growing up boxing and radio (mostly political commentary and that kind of stuff). We thought combining both things had a nice ring to [...]

It’s always better when you find some good music from your hometown. Number Station are a couple of lads from our (most liveable) city of Melbourne! They’re a rockin’ Indie band who have so generously let us offer their track for free download! Now I am particularly glad that they have a new track ‘Hold On’ out, because I do remember these guys from winning Triple J Unearthed way back in ’07. It is great to see them back; it is even better to be able to see them play in the near future (Nov 2 nd @ The [...]

"Man, if musicians started writing music blogs ... most of us music bloggers would be screwed." I've said this out loud more than a few times and thought it even more. And the arrival of Kyle Zantos' new podcast and blog Musician on Musicians only seems to confirm this. Zantos', a recent Seattle transplant who is [...]

Introducing Messrs , they are a five-piece Indie-Synthy band from Adelaide. After I first discovered these guys I pretty much haven’t listened to anything or anyone else. It’s safe to say that ‘Everyone Knows’ has skyrocketed to my top 25 most played in iTunes. It’s a little bit dancey, but it’s a little bit chilled too. The layered synths just tease your ears in the background - Adding a whole new dynamic to the song. Not to mention that catchy vocal hook towards the end of the track. I don’t need to rant and rave on about [...]

The very warm and bright studio sound puts an oil lamp glow over Trashcan Sinatras ’ single People , the third single off of their 2009 album In The Music . A melancholy synth-glum Echo and the Bunnyman-influenced verse is followed by a major key love song response with a rich vocal harmony for the chorus refrain “People, people will fall in love”. It’s the sort of chorus where people join hands and sway. There’s a heart-warming understatedness to the single, which makes it easy to listen to but at the [...]

A single guitar hook usually sells me, but in the case of The Shiny Brights – I’m sold by much more than that. Let me tell you, there’s nothing lethargic about the music they play; it’s raw, it’s in your face and it’s travelling at serious velocity. If you don’t believe me ask the guys, they describe their show was ‘a bull in a china shop’. Having supported artists like The Wombats, The Vines, The Living End, The Grates and many more, The Shiny Brights are no stranger to the big stage. They rehearse in a [...]
