Maya Jane Coles – Everything

We should all mix things up more. Take the best from both worlds and make things better. That's what I've always done, in fact I was born into it being mixed race. Fellow Eurasian Maya Jane Coles has the mix it up bug too. The British Japanese dance music maker has been crafting a reputation picking up gongs such as Producer of the Year and Breakthrough DJ of the Year by DJ Mag in 2011. Her latest pop/house creation is Everything featuring Swede Karin Park . The [...]

Getting Cozy With… Hands Out!

Hands Out - 'Joy'
Hello readers of AMBY. My name is Steven and I play the drums, loop noises and (sort of) sing in the band Hands Out. My two good friends, Adam and Stephen, help me make a racket by forcing lovely sounding guitars through disgusting sounding pedals. We will be playing our first gigs this month (May 2013) to a bunch of sweaty people from the towns we grew up in. Here's a quick history of the band, I shall try to keep things brief. Adam and I have played in bands together since we were about 15, that's half [...]

Live: Title Fight + Dead End Path @ London King’s College – 15 May 2013

Live: Title Fight + Dead End Path @ London King’s College – 15 May 2013 If there is one shared passion of the collected Thrash Hits writers (other than smugly mouthing-off about bands on the internet), then it's football. So when the London leg of  Title Fight's UK tour clashed with the Europa League Final this week, we were worried we wouldn't be able to find anyone able to review it...so we guess it's a good job that  Alex Andrews is a Spurs man... 6 things we learned watching Title Fight in London... Rare color film shows what London looked like in 1927

Rare color film shows what London looked like in 1927 In 1927 Claude Friese-Greene shot some of the first-ever color film footage around London. He captured everyday life in the city with a technique innovated by his father, called Biocolour. Though we usually think of French names like Lumiere and Melies when we think of early film pioneers, Friese-Greene's technique captures London in striking detail, as if putting the whole city in a time capsule. The people, all now long since gone, pass before us like ghosts. What's striking is, apart from the noticeably formal clothing and a few old cars, how familiar and unchanged everything seems. Trafalgar [...]

Gorgeously infectious spaghetti western vibes are in abundance... Gorgeously infectious spaghetti western vibes are in abundance on the new track by London’s  Men’s Adventure . The pondering of lost cowboys are on display as the sun is just about to hit the ground for the night. Never before has the feeling of giving up felt so exuberant and playful. Cheetahs – ‘Fall’

Cheetahs – ‘Fall’ The debut long player from London’s Cheetahs is right up the top of my list of most wanted forthcoming albums. The four piece shoegaze rock act recently released ‘Extended Plays’ through Wichita Recordings which includes both of their first two EPs - ‘Coared’ and ‘Sans’. Introducing : Phoenix Martins

Introducing : Phoenix Martins This British singer/songwriter from London goes by the name of Phoenix Martins and got rather interested when I started reading the brief : "she is set to release her debut single 'Heartstrings,'on 17th June 2013. To date she has supported and worked with artists including The Noisettes, Fife Dangerfield and Ebony Bones to just name a few...". A little bio and insight : A natural live performer, Phoenix has been singing since the age of seven, when her and her cousin would charge family members fifty pence each to see them sing everything [...]

Getting Cozy With… Joachim De Lux!

Getting Cozy With… Joachim De Lux! Hi there, I'm Joachim Sailly, aka Joachim De Lux. I'm a French music producer studying music in London. I have been making music across several genres now (rock, trip hop, electro...) even though I'm only composing electronic music now. I have chosen this track because it defines perfectly my concept of the composition process that I'm interested in. I am trying to compose tracks which are; enjoyable musically and at the same time accessible, but also with an element of experimentation, looking for the ‘perfect’ balance. This track is also the one ending my EP, which [...]

Our Mother | AGE OF EMPIREZ

Our Mother | AGE OF EMPIREZ Our Mother | AGE OF EMPIREZ The best part about OUR MOTHER’s website is that it simply presents a jerking gold disc and player of ‘AGE OF EMPIREZ’, which spins on a constant. You could play this song forever, no understatement. Many might lump the ‘mystery’ tag at a band who’ve existed several months while lacking any promo shots, but they’ve been playing shows in and around London since 2012, and this debut track is an open wound, full of emotions willing to be poked and prodded at, [...]
