Experimental guitarist Loren Connors already has scores of releases under his belt, but can add one more when the one sided LP "A Fire" comes out on December 6th courtesy of Family Vineyard Records . From the label: "A Fire is a single-sided LP by master guitarist Loren Connors. Recorded live in Philadelphia in 2010, this 23 minute piece follows in the style and visual presentation of Connors' recent Red Mars CD. Instead of sculpting multilayer tape-recorded pieces, the NYC guitarist is expounding on spontaneous sound, either rattling screams from his Stratocaster or bending [...]
Loren Connors with Margarida Garcia - On Our Way by familyvineyard family-vineyard.com: "Loren Connors has long been heralded as one of the country's most inimitable guitar voices. Red Mars is the first CD of new solo music since 2004. Since that time, Connors' unmistakable electric blues style presented on album has changed somewhat -- from multilayer tape-recorded pieces to spontaneous live performances." Read on - Red Mars has been reviewed in THE WIRE 331 - September 2011 - Red Mars [...]

Loren Connors @ Cafe Oto, London. 14.5.11 (by shuffleboil ) Lots of reverb and slides from our favourite axe wielder.

Despite the phenomenal amount of material that the composer and guitarist Loren Connors has released over the years (too much surely for anyone apart from the most committed completist to have kept track of) there remains something ghost-like about him. His public performances are relatively rare these days, which is perhaps unsurprising given the fact he has been suffering from Parkinsons disease for some time. The contribution that this condition has in fact made to his guitar playing is a moot point, though it is perhaps too easy to draw parallels between the undoubted fragility of his playing and his [...]

Loren Connors – Hell's Kitchen Park The first in a planned series of reissues of Connors' guitar suites, this LP on Dutch imprint Enabling Works captures the man in the throes of his contemplative shorter works. The sound on HKP is much cleaner than Connors would trend towards in the future but still imbued with his uncanny ability to capture the heart of loneliness in electrified string. The album may be broken up into twelve tracks but they seethe and swim and shuffle like bedraggled occupants of the park that [...]
the story goes: mary hart (the titular midnight mary) way back in the day in conneticut, collapses, passes out, and on presumption of being deceased, is buried by her husband. mary's sister has a nightmare about her being buried alive. queue her freaking out, the body gets exhumed and there lies mary, her hands torn [...]
It's surprising that Two Nice Catholic Boys is only the second official recording from Loren Mazzacane Connors and Jim O'Rourke . The two are heroes in the experimental/improvisational scene. And, even if you think you don't know them, I can guarantee you've heard something that one of the two have worked on. This album might not quite live up to a combination of the pair's impressive credentials, but it's certainly an interesting recording of two musicians at the top of their game. Composer/guitarist Jim O'Rourke has released over 15 albums on his own, [...]
Aside from the obvious big ones ( Thursday , Morrissey , Trail of Dead , M. Ward , The Appleseed Cast , etc.), there are a few intriguing releases out today that might be flying a bit under the radar. Neal Casal , second in command behind Ryan Adams in The Cardinals , has his new one out. Amazon says it's an import, so maybe it's not actually out yet or it came out a while ago. Either way, Casal is a solid [...]

Lots of new releases, but not too many notable ones. Bruce Springsteen and Franz Ferdinand are the clear front-runners in my mind. I might check out the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez album too, since I'm a big fan of The Mars Volta . Oh, and I put Hoobastank in there because I bet Ben Pike likes them. And the Incomplete Collection of Louisville Punk release is for Sean, obvs. :: Anahita , Matricaria (Important) :: Asa , [...]
Remember when you were 14 and you prayed to God to not let you die before you got to kiss Wendy Peffercorn? Or, you know, other things. That's what this release week is like. Please God, don't let me die before I listen to new albums from Bon Iver , Animal Collective , Andrew Bird , Atmosphere , Matt & Kim , Antony and the Johnsons and Robert Pollard Also, Andrew, Animal, Antony and Anya? Sounds like a conspiracy. :: 16 , [...]

In two hours and twenty minutes (I'm writing this shortly after midnight because I have to work all day Tuesday), the 2008 Major League baseball season will start. The first pitch will be thrown by Joe Blanton to whoever is hitting leadoff for the Red Sox tonight (Pedroia? Youkilis?). The Mets play their first game against the Marlins on the 31st. It's all really quite exciting. Opening Day really is unlike any other day of the year. Every team begins with the same record, and fans across the country believe this will be their year. So it is [...]

* Loren Connors : Here, I'll Whisper It To You (4.0 mb) | Trinity (Part 1) (2.0 mb) | Trinity (Part 2) (5.0 mb) | Trinity (Part 3) (2.5 mb) From Sails : Table Of The Elements : toe-cd-89 Speaking, again, of Loren (Mazzacane) Connors (look here and here ), have I ever expressed just how amazing his music is? He's taken a form as prosaic as the Blues, and transformed it into [...]

1. The Necks – Townsville ( Milk of Fish / ReR ) MP3: Townsville (Excerpt) Last October – in what normally would have been nothing but a typical autumn week with darkness setting in early and people wrapped in warm clothes, hiding from the cold wind – I experienced what was most definitely the musical highlight of the year for me. Maybe even the musical highlight of many, many years. That entire week the city was besieged by music and film dedicated to "minimalist" composer and legend Philip Glass. Every [...]
