You know him. We love him. The iconic, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy will be at Cosmic Charlies on July 7th to support Appalshop (check out details below). He is a man that needs little to no introduction, so we will simply say, grab your ticket before they are gone. You can get'em here . Tickets are $15. Show starts at 8pm. It's a Saturday, so the drive back to Louisville isn't bad, if you have to make the trek. And it is for a good cause. All around positive stuff. Even this track, in an odd way... [...]

Bro. Stephen (aka Scott Kirkpatrick) has one of our favorite albums of the year, Baptist Girls . He is playing at Haymarket's new back room venue. It's only $3 bucks. Three other acts will join him on the line-up, making it less than $1 per band, leaving plenty of $ for a beer (or whiskey). Pick up Bro. Stephen's album while you are there. Come say hi to us, too. In the meantime, check out a few tracks: Details from Facebook [...]

Our neighbors to the south, Tennessee indie-rockers, The Features , are playing Forecastle X on Saturday. Last year, The Features played with Wax Fang (who are playing Forecastle on Friday!) a year ago, April 15 2011, at Zanzabar and, boy did they do some work. Correct me on these adjectives, but you know, this is just, like, my opinion, man - The Features are this kinda Southern pop, that has that bluesy, gospel-ish thing going on that's really a big deal 'round these parts right about now. See The Features on Saturday, along with a [...]

The stellar performances delivered by Joan and her backing band (featuring Ben Sollee , Cheyenne Marie Mize , Daniel Joseph Dorff and several other amazing musicians) mark an artistic turning point and are further testament to the great music coming out of Louisville, Kentucky. (Read Archivist Nathan Salsburg ‘s take on the project right here .) The album ranges from gentle moments of [...]

While it is easy to get excited about almost every band playing at Forecastle X , Neko Case is one that stands out for sure. We caught her set at Bonnaroo a few years back and she stole the show. She plays on Sunday, so I will be a nice way to start winding down the weekend. About Neko Case ( via All Music ): Alternative country singer/songwriter Neko Case won a steadily growing cult audience for her smoky, sophisticated [...]

I'm a little late on this review, but the show was too good not to share some pics. These are from the St. Vincent show up at Bogart's in Cincy earlier this month. We saw her back when she was opening for The National and immediately fell in love. Merry Me was a constant spin, as was Actor . She has really arrived with her most recent release, Strange Mercy . She effortlessly commands the rooms attention, then drops jaws with her talent on the guitar, hauntingly beautiful voice and she is kind of attractive. The [...]
It's obvious that Louisville has a reputation for pumping out some of the first and most original post-rock bands, many of which that ended up becoming influential among bands that replicated the style. Making recent waves is Sea Hero , a band that delves back to Rodan in it's song structure, but introduces the aggressiveness into the instrumental genre that bands like Young Widows have exemplified on a local level. Think the quiet reserved moments in a Mono tune meeting the face-punching Explosions in the Sky elements. Here is where Sea Hero dwell. The band recently recorded [...]

Louisville's very own Karass are back with some awesome spaced-out post-rock on their new EP, "Imponderable Bloom". The new single is called "What Does God Need With a Starship", and it will make you feel pretty good about life. This is a follow-up to last year's EP, " My Robot Can Beat Up Your Honor Studen t", and their 2009 full-length, " Or Grandfalloon ". Seriously, check this out. There's no way not to like it. We've even attached the single to make it easy on you, gentle reader. So no excuses. Listen to it. Love it. [...]

We've already told our friends at Distonal to get a new pair of pants ready because Lotus Plaza is stopping in Louisville on their North American tour at Zanzabar on July 7, 2012. Lotus Plaza is the solo-project of Deerhunter guitarist, Lockett Pundt, and it kicks ass. His newest album, Spooky Action at a Distance is out now on Kranky Records. Check out some of the tracks below. About Spooky Action at a Distance [...]

I say it all the time, but srsly, if you weren't at Zbar on Friday the 20th then you missed out big time. BIG TIME. Some people celebrate April 20th by lighting funny cigarettes on fire and getting high, and I celebrated by living the (Miller) High Life and chilling with my new bros Bear In Heaven. Internet sensation Zach of We Listen For You and I arrived super early to have a hang sesh with the bears in the heavens before the show to do a rather serious interview. I don't know if the interview can be [...]

Louisville's eccentric sci-fi harpist Erin Hill showed what can be done with a good kickstarter campaign . Earning over $34K from 303 backers, she financed a video for "Lookout, Science," the followup to "Giant Mushroom" from her upcoming album currently titled "Girl Inventor." Erin describes the ten songs to be like mini-episodes of the Twilight Zone. The new video premiered exclusively on USA Today , but is now available below. We last caught (and first met) Erin at Forecastle in 2009 where we had this to say about her... [...]

The talented and beautiful, St. Vincent (Annie Clark), will be at Cincy's Bogarts on Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Tickets are on sale here . She stole our hearts when we saw her open for The National a few years back in Cincy. Since then, she has treated us with three must own albums: Marry Me, Actor and Strange Mercy . We also picked up her new 73, KROKODIL, on Record Store Day . If you are anywhere near this show, hop in your car and check it [...]
