Fort Knox Five is neither from Kentucky nor a quintet. They're a group of four dj/producer/musician's from DC. Steve Raskin, Jon Horvath, Rob Myers, and Sid Barcelona are all formidable on their own. Together it's just ridiculous. I first came across them from vinyl. I first came across them via vinyl. In the form of a Bob Marley remix. It's a must spin in any set. Without further ado, Funk the World Mix 02. Funk the World Mix 02 - Fort Knox Five = MP3 [...]

Instrumental hip hop duo The Cancel is the fruit of a collaboration between Andrei Zelenskii and Dmitrii Fedusiv, two Ukrainian musicians with a common passion for jazz music and old vinyls. Their music finds its roots in the works of jazz maestros such as John Coltrane and Miles Davis passed through the filter of modern electronica-influenced hip hop (think Ninja Tune or Stones Throw). The Cancel - Summer Tape After a very well received debut LP released last year, The Cancel are back with Reply From Space , a [...]
Trip hop music has absolutely exploded in the last three or four years, probably due in most part to Portishead 's rise in success and fan base. With the emergence of artists' such as Emancipator , Bonobo , and The Flashbulb , the trip hop community has been spoon fed album after album of downtempo music. It's no wonder that we are seeing a surge of young, talented musicians who are able to make massive beats in their own bedroom. Years ago, it seemed like this kind of thing would be unimaginable but with technology at [...]

Today's post celebrates one of my favorite producers/musicians currently making music. I've disappointed myself by not having posted more of his incredible sounds before, but I intend to make up for this immediately. Also, check out how awesome the above picture is - Bonobo in the woods with an SP-1200 - freaking brilliant. Without further ado, here's Bonobo. Be sure to buy his latest project Black Sands on iTunes . 1009 - Bonobo - Click play arrow to left of song title to play. via [...]

PacificUV releases the new Weekends LP tomorrow (January 31st) off Mazarine Records. The album mixes ethereal shoegaze sounds with electropop and features guest appearances from members of Montreal and The Olivia Tremor Control. I'm digging the single entitled "Funny Girl," which houses a unique surreal vibe that really captures the album's essence.

January Tuesday is a brand new project from Charles Webster and L.A vocalist January Thompson, this is their 1st ep.

Jeremy Malvin, aka Chrome Sparks , grew up in Pittsburgh and then moved to Ann Arbor to study percussion at the University of Michigan. Now the young beatmaker just chills and makes glitchy dreampop when he isn't playing drums for stepdad. The latest result of his musical experiments is a brand new 7-track EP, released as a free download via his BandCamp. Check out Chrome Sparks' mind-blowing collaboration with talented LA's own Steffaloo just below... Chrome Sparks - All There Is (Feat. Steffaloo) Chrome Sparks - This [...]

Had a request from a reader in Morocco (!) for a few albums originally hosted by the late, great site Bellybongo. Tho I don't have albums by Lynn Rockwell or The Trilogy (anyone?), I am glad I had this little wonder. Deb Hyer played ramshackle one-man-band versions of late '60s/'70s easy-listening hits on garage-y guitar, sleazy electric organ, and one-note duck-quack sax. And then there's his singing - he may have been from Kentucky, but his sense of pitch was all over the map. Actually, t [...]

Mark Aubert has a new tape filled with, Lost / Found , beat artifacts that were left behind and put unto a dusty shelf of his. The 16 track beat-tape runs with grooving loops, easy-sounding lounge, and a robust soul embedded regime that uplifts and rules all the sound waves. Chill out and reflect on the mind with this one. Download the whole thing on his bandcamp .
<p&a mp;gt;&lt; a href=" http://markaubert.bandcamp.com /album/lost-found"&amp ;amp;amp;gt;Lost / Found by Mark Aubert&lt; /a&gt;& ;amp;amp;lt;/p>
Also :: He's got [...]

Something about Chicago's OSHWA is oh so soothing. The ...thanksgiving EP seems to work better if you treat Alicia Walter's voice as an instrument rather than a main focus (at least for the first few songs). The whole thing weirdly reminds me of classical Chinese music and jazz lounge goodness wrapped into one, which is pretty cool. If you're not used to artists like Bjork, then "Simple Song" would probably be the most familiar-sounding of the bunch. Enjoy! ...thanksgiving ep by oshwa
"Fall From Here" is the latest video to come out of the collaboration between Australian/South African synthpop outfit Clubfeet and fashion videographer Alex Goddard. Conceived as a video illustration of the songs from the band's 2010 album Gold on Gold , the project has so far delivered four chapters: "Edge Of Extremes", "Count Your Lovers", "Broken Hearted" and "Last Words" . As a bonus, check out the following remixes of "Edge of Extremes" and "Last Words"... Clubfeet - Last Words (The C90s Remix) [...]
