10 Rock & Roll Interviews Gone Wrong

10 Rock & Roll Interviews Gone Wrong Interviewing rock & roll stars is not easy. They are a wild, usually egotistical bunch who often live outside the boundaries of acceptable human behavior as dictated by societal norms and generally accepted "common sense." For example, it may seem like common sense that once should not be nodding off on heroin, unable to speak, and wearing a shirt with a swastika on it during an on-camera interview. But for Sid Vicious, this seemed like an okay thing to do, and so he did it. Here's that, and nine other rock & roll interviews gone terribly wrong. [...]

Lou Reed - "Live Performances 1972 & 1974" DVD Review (XXL Media)

Lou Reed - "Live Performances 1972 & 1974" DVD Review (XXL Media) I was excited by this release as Lou Reed – Live Performances 1972 & 1974 is the first live recording from Lou's Sally Can't Dance tour to be commercially released. The first video segment shows Lou and his band recorded live at the Paris Olympia on 5/25/74. This segment, which was originally broadcast on French TV, captures the first six songs of Lou's thirteen song set. The second segment contains four tracks that were recorded in Brussels in May 1974 and the final track is from Lou's reunion with John Cale and [...]

"Linger on, your pale blue eyes" (song from the BBC Radio advert/trailer)

VELVET UNDERGROUND - Pale blue eyes
Joe writes: The BBC make such great trailers advertising themselves, especially when they draw on the songwriting of Lou Reed. The current trailer for BBC Radio features a man moved to tears firstly by The Velvet Underground's Pale Blue Eyes, and then by a football commentary as Blackpool gain promotion to the Premier League. For the original underground band, The Velvet Underground sure had some great tunes.

Lou Reed - "Walk on the Wild Side" CD Review (XXL Media)

Lou Reed - "Walk on the Wild Side" CD Review (XXL Media) Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side CD (XXL Media) is a re-release of Lou's live-in-the-studio performance from Ultrasonic Studios which was recorded on Dec. 26, 1972 in Hempstead, NY. At the time this show was recorded, Lou's second solo disc, Transformer , had come out the month prior and the songs on this ten track disc are predominately drawn from Transformer and the Velvet Underground's back catalogue (Lou amusingly refers to one of the Velvet's tracks as a ' blast from the past '). This [...]

Lou Reed added to Tibet House benefit lineup (duh)

Lou Reed added to Tibet House benefit lineup (duh) Lou Reed at Prospect Park in 2011 ( more by David Andrako ) When we first announced this year's Tibet House US benefit, which is happening on February 13 at Carnegie Hall , it was surprising that a Philip Glass -curated event in NYC with Laurie Anderson wouldn't also include Lou Reed. Well, as it turns out, Lou Reed will in fact be performing at the event. As mentioned, the lineup also includes " Newcomer of the Year " [...]

Watch The Throne and Loutallica: A Comparison

Okay, look. I'll be honest: saying that Lou Reed and Metallica's Lulu is better than Kanye West and Jay-Z's Watch the Throne is a pretty tough sell. One made millions of dollars and contained "Niggas in Paris", and the other didn't. One is catchy, the other is willfully insolent in its abrasiveness. One features two men at the absolute top of their game doing what they do best, and the other features a sixty-nine-year-old Lou Reed screaming about how he's a table. So yeah. Tough sell. Hit the skip to continue reading. We're talking "I was [...]

[Review/Listen] – Lou Reed & Metallica – "Lulu"

[Review/Listen] – Lou Reed & Metallica – "Lulu" Tweet Yes, this is a long overdue review , being that most of the controversy and fuel for discussion about this album has died down, and the sounds and experiments found in these ten pieces have been almost sanitized to the music-listening audience. Still, to coincide with the recent entering of a new year, what better way to embrace the sounds of a new twelve months of music than to take a brief dive into last year's most feces-filled swimming pool, recalling perhaps the most [...]
