I know I'm late on this, but just got around to seeing Drive , the Ryan Gosling film that seems to simultaneously be an homage to early-702s Steve McQueen getaway flicks and the Grand Theft Auto series, with its hat tipped directly at 80s-themed Vice City . Its highly-stylized, videogame-noir finds the perfect medium between nostalgia and total awareness that makes for one of the more unique major releases of 2011. Saw Drive last night. It's been billed as an action movie - I experienced it more as a stylized love story about violence, if that makes any sense. I recommend it in any case. The director, Nicolas Winding Refn, has created a fantastic movie in many regards - the performances, casting, and arc all worked great for me. I just discovered this song, "Nitghtcall," by Parisian electro-house artist Kavinsky , from the Drive soundtrack. Kavinsky's manipulated robotic vocals paired with Lovefoxxx's sweet breathy singing creates a great contrast. It's a forbidden love kind of song as Kavinsky whispers, "I'm giving you a night call to tell you how I feel" and Lovefoxxx croons, "there's something inside you, it's hard to explain, their talking about you, but your still the same."
