Of the entirety of Kanye West's discography, 808s & Heartbreaks is the most divisive. Classified by Kanye as a pop effort, the album is usually either lauded as an under-appreciated stoke of genius or denigrated as a hackneyed, self-indulgent, Auto-Tuned mess. There was no denying 808s commercial appeal, however — the album debuted at number one on the Billboard chart and has gone on to sell well over a million copies. You can credit a lot of that success to the album's first single, "Love Lockdown," which may be the simplest song West has [...]

Fundamentally, if you're listening to Kanye West, you're kind of already listening to a remix - most of the man's music is re-edited, pre-released soul tracks, cut up to sate whatever sugary taste the public craves. That said, there are those who would dare to re -re-mix the tracks Kanye has sampled. That is, they remix his songs. A second second take on the originals, if you will. Of course, the flavors of West remixes know no bounds. We'll just tackle a few tracks here - there are too many to [...]

There are thousands of popular artists out there today making new singles all the time. With the increase of bedroom producers though, the ability to simply download a whole studio that you can use right on your lap has made original songs more scarce. Now it seems that you're finding tens of thousands of remixes by artists with more and more ludicrous names, leaving you wondering, "Transexual Viking Sword Bro- what???" This weekly segment will bring you the popular remixes and the never heard of "Transexual Viking Sword Brothers" remixes of a (common) artist's singles. From all these bedroom producers [...]

This post is a "QuickPick". QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that's sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it's so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If it's still as good as it was a day before then it goes up on the site, but sometimes I get backlogged and can't get through writing up pieces for each [...]
If you're not yet on the tip of this Londoner who croons with a wavering intensity and a heart-on-sleeve-and-everything -else called Alan Pownall, we can't understand it. His voice is eccentric but not irksome and he's got the kind of (we're...

This past week, BBC's Live Lounge was on fire thanks to a handful of blog-beloved acts entering it's studio doors. Below, peep a rundown of some of the artists that stopped by and how they fared: The Gossip Appearing in support of their EXCELLENT new album Music For Men , Beth Ditto & Co. blew the walls off the sucka with a thunderous walk-through of that set's lead off single "Heavy Cross" (oh how great it is when a band is able to [...]

Released on Monday, Music for Men is out. Did you buy it? Did you like it? current favourites are Love Long Distance, and this, Men in Love. Gossip - Men in Love also keep an eye out for their recent cover of Kanye West's Love Lockdown from BBC1's Live Lounge, floating about all over .
But I think it's about time I address the awesome that is Love Lockdown. Yes, it's by Kanye West. But yes, it is also pretty good. Now before you light your torches and grab your pitchforks, hear me out! At the formal I mentioned earlier, during my conversation with the DJ, we touched on the fact that genres have been changing a lot since the 90's. We talked about how house went from Armand Van Helden to Da Funk to Harder Better Faster Stronger, and has now become electro. We also talked about how hip hop is undergoing [...]
This is a show BVaz Jill and I consciously avoided Saturday night because we thought (and thought correctly) that it would be overrun with people. Anyways, here is Kanye performing Love Lockdown at the Levi's Fader Fort at SXSW 2009.

Gloomy, dark rockers White Lies (one of our certain favorites for this year) are set to make their live television debut in the US when they appear March 24 on the "Late Show with David Letterman". We have no idea what they'll play, but something tells us it'll be bleak and gothy. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, the boys also seem to have a smashing sense of humor, as evidenced by this BBC Radio 1 cover of Kanye West's "Love Lockdown" . (mp3) White Lies - Love Lockdown (Kanye West cover) [...]

The crew over at Slutty Fringe have breathed a bit of realworld-ness in to their blog. No not a party. They've only gone and set up record label. Hot Pockets . Nuff respect on that tip. If the labels anything like their blog. Well it'll be pretty friggin special. Fresh tunes you wont find anywhere else. The first single is off the hook. Where did they find this guy. I'm talking about Line a British chappy with a wonderful voice whose bold refix n' rejig of Kanye West's Love Lockdown constitues the labels [...]
So many good videos out there that we're doubling up today and tomorrow so we can feature everything we want too. Not normally a huge fan of rappers. Kanye West has long been a critics favourite, however I've never been a big fan. Then he released 808's and Heartbreak , which I downloaded in the hope I'd like it. I fell in love with it. Love Lockdown? Amazing. Now he's got a new video for forthcoming single, Welcome to Heartbreak. Slightly bizarre to watch, it's a feast [...]
Does that sound familiar? Interpolations are a big part of the pop game but goddddamn whoever thought this was the song to jack was on some next level shit. Amazing. Amazing. Also apparently i'm late on this Tags: gummy bear , love lockdown , Video Related posts ZZT - The Worm Video (3) YOUTUBE TRICK OF ALL TRICKS! Knowledge bomb. (3) [...]

it's time to admit that all of the rumours are true. 88 days fancy Slutty Fringe . As a by-product of that we've fallen their new label Hot Pockets too (red 73s? yes please). Their first release is by Line and it's a cover of Kanye's Love Lockdown. go listen and preorder on the Hot Pockets site . but not before checking out the rest of Line's output, a shimmering mish mash of slightly Albarn-esque vocals/pulsating bass/glitch beeps. recommended listening: right now with your headphones on. MP3: Line: [...]
I spied this over at Pigeons and Planes and found it pretty interesting. In general I'm not a huge a fan of covers, of course there are exceptions, but I found this one to be particularly addicting. Something like this actually makes me appreciate Kanye a lot more. The fact that his song can be adapted into an indie rock framework this easily means he has truly succeeded in redefining himself as an artist. Anyways I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Check out the White Lies' take on "Love Lockdown" Live at BBC Radio Live Lounge. Thanks to Janis for this one. PigeonsandPlanes
