I avoided liking Lower Dens for the longest time. Perhaps it's because the songs never make a grab for the listener with ear-candied hooks or obvious pop constructions. Instead, Jana Hunter and company deliver some of the more subtle, meditative, and hypnotic pop music I've ever heard, arming themselves with quietly delivered melodies and repetitive almost geometrical lines of intersecting rhythm. Tracks like "Rosie" and "A Dog's Dick" will creep into your ear canal unnoticed one moment, and the next seemingly unfold and blossom. Lower Dens drop a new video for single, “Brains”.  Jana Hunter is quite creepy in this self-portrait video, as the aggressive track grows a new grim skin. Nootropics, (which may explain why the video is a bit out there) will be out May 5th, through Ribbon Music. Lower Dens - “Brains”

Ahh, " Brains ." The song where Lower Dens took their dreamy twin-guitared smoulder for a trip up the Autobahn and made Nootropics one of my most anticipated LPs of 2012. For the "Brains" video, out today, Jana Hunter commissioned director Tristan Patterson (he of the hailed Dragonslayer doc). Tristan trains the camera on a stoic Jana, using various visual effects to modify the footage in concert with the music. Put another way, the band's camp says the video is about "appreciating our modern society's rampant technological advancements while reconciling its ability [...]
