Tweet The way "Stay Pretty" kicks off with the line "goodbye my dear looks like you weren't the one", I was expecting a typical backhanded compliment kind of negative time-to-split song. Only with every line it sinks in that this has to be one of the more optimistic break-up songs to ever be created. My complete respect is for this song. I can't help but wonder why someone who handles splitting up like an adult rather than some jealous 13 year old is so [...]

Soft Pipes is the musical project of Anthony Polcino of Low Vs. Diamond and the track "Stay Pretty" comes from the EP of the same name (out September 27th). Soft Pipes - Stay Pretty by buzzbands I'm a man of few words today...

Anthony Polcino emerged from the shadow of his role as guitarist in Low Vs Diamond last autumn, when, doing business as Soft Pipes , he self-released a very good homemade album "When You're Done Here You Get to Go Home." Since then, abetted by Christopher Pappas and Miracle Parade , Polcino has assembled a live band and started to stretch out. Soft Pipes' forthcoming new EP, "Stay Pretty," represents the songwriter "going for it a little more," he says, with a bigger sound, grander atmospherics and more sophisticated instrumentation. The change-of-pace chorus in the title track [...]
Well, it looks like lead-vocalist for Low vs Diamond, Lucas Field, has been quite busy over the last six months. After playing a few shows with Annie Stela, it appears Lucas has been playing a ... New Jersey native Anthony Polcino kept his own music in the background while he played guitar in the Los Angeles' Low Vs Diamond , but when that quintet "slowed down, or fizzled out" after touring behind its 2008 album, Polcino says, he got to work in his West Hollywood apartment. ||| Stream/download: "Golden Grace" His debut album as Soft Pipes , "When You're Done Here You Get to Go Home," recently self-released, shimmers with melody and atmospherics, speaking to Polcino's "love of reverb, [...]

[Birthday cheers go out to Cedric Bixler-Zavala today as we take a look at a busy midweek show lineup ...] The album-as-concert concept gets realized at two L.A. venues tonight — the Pixies start a three-night run at the Palladium with their 20-year-old masterwork "Doolittle" on the menu (L.A. duo No Age opens), and Frank Black talks about the reunion here . And Devo does a second night at the Fonda Theatre, this one to perform its 1980 album "Freedom of Choice." ... [...]

Get out your Bumbershoot, it's raining! Of the past four years, this was my first Bumbershoot experience in the rain, which is pretty awesome, considering it's Seattle . This was my second year of the 3-day pass experience. Aside from the people in walking traffic that pause whenever they please, the Labor Day weekend is near perfection. (I could also happily go a few days without seeing any neon clad 14 year olds making out.) Not only was the rain a first for my Bumbershoot experience, but this was also the first year I [...]

Standing just to the right of the stage at the Bowery, I'm trying to mask my disappointment in Low vs. Diamond. Other than their wholesale theft of LCD Soundsystem's Sounds of Silver font (just look), what is this band really about? My list of grievances is long and somewhat irrelevant. Their singer looks like a kid you wouldn't take seriously in high school. In fact, if it weren't for supportive
via shervinfoto.com Now that the summer is more or less here, the area is starting to get some great shows during the week. A lot of bands spent a lot of time on the road, but it's pretty hard to argue that anyone rakes up the millage as much as the rockers of Low Vs Diamond . Since the release of its self-titled debut last April, the Los Angeles outfit has basically been touring nonstop, splitting time between festivals , late night talk shows , and engagements with Nickle Eye . So, perhaps it should come as little surprise that Low Vs Diamond has announced plans to spend the rest of 2009 on the road, kicking off this week [...]

Somebody has deep pockets. The teenage L.A. rock band Acidic won an eBay auction to play a main-stage slot at Sunday's second day of the Bamboozle Left Festival at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre — with a bid of more than $13,000. The money benefits the One Love for Chi Foundation, the charity that is helping Deftones bassist Chi Cheng with his medical expenses as he recovers from a injuries he sustained in an auto accident in November. The Green Day-channeling Acidic, fronted by 16-year-old Michael Gossard, will play at 2 p.m. Sunday, about 16 hours after [...]
