It had almost a year since I'd caught Lucy Rose live, it was hot off the back of her putting pen to paper and signing to Columbia, she played a medium sized, sweaty venue at The Great Escape festival in Brighton. So a whole year later I was lucky enough to head down to the Shepherd's Bush Empire to watch Lucy headline. A rather special experience. Lucy, ever grateful and humbled by the crowd arrived on stage and opened the show with 'Red Face', unable to stop smiling. She may perform songs with emotive and touchinglyrics such as [...]

Lucy Rose is one of the kindest female guitarists going, a singer-songwriter that is proving to everyone that you don't need a bad ass attitude to do well in the music industry. Her Cambridge gig was straight after she sold out Shepherds Bush Empire so moving down the scale in venue size was a nice change. (c) Nathan McLaran-Stewart She opened up the gig with "Gamble", after remembering a girl almost crying last time because [...]

At just 23 and sizing up at just a shade over 5 feet tall, you can be forgiven for thinking that onstage a sense of presence may elude Lucy Rose. The Warwickshire-born folk singer may only have one album to draw from, but extensive experience with Bombay Bicycle Club and on her own mean that she performs with the ability of a seasoned veteran of the scene. She ambles awkwardly onto The Engine Shed’s Platform stage acoustic across her slight form and with an uncomfortable glance to the arrayed mass of [...]

Hailing from Warwickshire, England, Lucy Rose has come a long way since she sang with Bombay Bicycle Club. Her U.S. debut, the Middle Of The Bed EP, has proven successful in not only her native country, but has captured attention in the States, especially because of her stint as this year's SXSW festival. Watch Rose's video for [...]

This year's Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival will take place in a variety of Belfast venues next month; and over eleven days, the 14th CQAF will stage music, comedy, spoken word and visual arts. We're going to focus on the festival's musical elements, and with the bill boasting old favourties such as Dexys and Adam Ant as well as a truly eclectic mix young and unknown talent, there should be something for anyone who finds themselves at the festival. There's even a guy covering Nick Cave if you fancy it. Thursday, 2nd May [...]

Bookmarks is the impressive, beautiful and charming six track EP from Galway singer-songwriter Miriam Donohue. The CD format comes highly recommended with it's original lino printed artwork. Miriam Donohue's ability to write quirky, catchy folk tunes is evident big time on her debut EP entitled 'Bookmarks'. The EP is just Miriam on guitar and vocals accompanied by Mike Chang on viola and mandolin and Paulie Smalls on bass. There's five studio tracks with a [...]

by Tiana Feng As per suggestions from friends on Facebook I wanted to check out Reuben and the Dark and Lowell during CMW. It just so happens that they were also playing the Lee's Palace show with The Besnard Lakes so I stayed the whole night there and discovered some great new artists. Reuben and the Dark started the night off with their Fleet Fox-like folk music. However, they were emotive without the [...]

Last year, I spent the majority of my time at the British Music Embassy at Latitude 30. It was so long ago now, I don't really remember if it was more because it was a safe place for me because I knew exactly where it was on San Jacinto Boulevard, or if it was the line-ups that drew me there. In any event, at SXSW 2013 I was mildly disappointed by the programme being presented over the week, with a lot of bands that I just didn't care for. Traditionally, Tuesday [...]
