Genetics can really screw you over sometimes. It's altogether tragic, for example, that Soha Ali Khan looks like father 'Tiger' Pataudi while Saif Ali Khan is the splitting image of Sharmila Tagore. Consider the progeny that is Bindu Subramaniam. Father: Acclaimed violinist Dr. L Subramaniam. Mother: Renowned playback singer Kavita Krishnamoorthy. You'd think the offspring of this formidable duo would be some sort of Bieber-Bach super-musician. Sadly, musical talent may indeed be a recessive gene. So, life gave Bindu lemons, and she proceeded to make a cheesy pop video. 'Superstar' is the first single off Subramaniam Jr.'s debut [...]

Venerated blues guitarist and singer Buddy Guy will play next month's Mahindra Blues Festival alongside guitarists Jonny Lang and Matt Schofield and vocalist Shemekia Copeland. The festival will be held at the "iconic and retro" Mehboob Studios in Mumbai on February 5-6, and will also feature Indian acts Soulmate , The Saturday Night Blues Band and The Luke Kenny Mojo Jukebox. Sponsoring a blues festival as part of their CSR initiative might seem like a fine example of out-of-the-box thinking by the Mahindra Group, but it may in fact be an even better example of creative re-branding. The latest brand to jump on the Indian rock band hunt bandwagon is fizzy drink maker Sprite. Rockers. Unnecessary double emphasis name aside, the payoff for bands who take the plunge in this contest is an opening slot on a six city tour for "iconic bands". These "iconic bands" include Them Clones, Bhoomi, Encantada and Luke Kenny. To enter, your band has to [...]

Michael Jackson's untimely death in June has seen, apart from a skyrocketing of airplay his catalog has received, a plethora of 'tribute' live nights, DJ sets and uber cool flash mobs . Blue Frog jumped on the tribute bandwagon with their own homage to the king of pop, hosted by Luke Kenny on Wednesday, July 29. We were there, scouting for white socks and, um, finding them. Notes Luke Kenny's become the go-to guy for tribute nights. We caught him earlier this year pulling Led Zeppelin , he's done a [...]
