Lets be honest, after six cinematic albums it feels somewhat overdue for M83 to be soundtracking a blockbuster hollywood film. Their sound has always had an expansive nuance that few artists have been able to match, and you'd be lying if you said you havent felt empowered and uplifted by their grandiosity (plus running to any of their discography is a pretty intense experience in itself). April 12th will see 'Oblivion', a new sci fi film starring Tom Cruise released in the UK, which Anthony Gonzalez and co have composed the soundtrack for. You may have [...]

A few months ago NPR captured M83 's performance at the historic 9:30 Club - including the new single "Reunion" and the commanding/addictive "Midnight City." The music transports you back exactly to where you want to be - glowing, bathed in beautiful sound and contagious elation. It's the magic of M83 LIVE - traveling to a world made of dreams - where anything is possible (concert stream link is below). "…a perfect snapshot of a brilliant shining star." - Bob Boilen, NPR [...]

I'm really, really excited about this one. Ezra and Nic, aka ROOM8 , are making some of the most amazing music I've heard since the golden days of EDM circa '07. Think Valerie collective... Remember them? Remember those sounds? The heavily synthesized, poppy, sort of retro, 80s-feeling jams we all found romance in? Well, again, I'm really excited about this one, and here's why. " Visions Of You " is perhaps the lead single on ROOM8 's forthcoming debut album Transduction , featuring Electric Youth (heroes!) [...]

"The album is ablaze, with James’s disturbing images irrevocably intertwined with Roddick’s soundscapes..." Purity Ring | Shrines Eagerly anticipated as the album that will cement Purity Ring’s status as one of the best new bands of 2012, Shrines does not disappoint. The first full length release of Canadian duo Megan James and Corrin Roddick is a haunting, vigorous testament to the talent that the band possesses. Featuring words written by Megan James but never intended for an album, the lyrics are reminiscent of a Tim Burton film, but the music ensures that [...]

M832s 2011 album, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming , was an absolute joy. Among other sycophantic praise we described the double disc as one "with giant hooks, clever instrumentation and irresistible arrangements, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming delivers more with each listen and each time you notice something new you want to listen even more." We labelled 'Reunion' a fists-in-the-air synth rocker and we stand by that. Fittingly the video is huge. Featuring skyscrapers and pshycic children. As you do.
I'm still waiting for a drone album to change my life. Seriously, that's what the intentions of the ever-growing overload of atmospheric music feel like. Think about the recent Frankie Rose LP "Interstellar" or M83 's "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" , there was an invisible tension that comes while listening to them. That somewhere along the line, an existential epiphany was supposed to overwhelm your heart, body and soul and suddenly, everything will make sense. Like that part in "Almost Famous" where Zooey Deschanel advices [...]

Saint Saviour is simply one of thee best vocalists out in this indiesphere and her upcoming debut project will be welcomed with open arms as I expect it to be one of the best albums of 2012. Tweet After a string of neatly arranged EPs, and an opening slot for M83 , Porcelain Raft has finally released a debut album and "Strange Weekend" lives up to the hype. The appeal of "Strange Weekend" comes from the layering of reverb-soaked instrumentation, punctuated by Mauro Remiddi’s sweeping vocals. He ranges from crooning bedroom-pop to HEALTH-like vocals, which are textually thinner and sound more ambient. Even though the music is wonderful, the production quality of "Strange Weekend" is light-years [...]
![[Review/Listen] – M83 – “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3976416_lg.jpg)
Tweet Something that I find to be especially annoying is when the term “epic” is used to describe everyday things. Epic, from an actually analytical viewpoint, regards the subject as something that happens over a period of time, requiring specific events to occur, causing a transformation through learned experiences. Your bagel is not epic and neither was the last time you went crazy and drank half a Four Loko in your parent’s basement. “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming” , the latest album by [...]
As 2011 draws to a close, I wanted to throw my own two cents in about what I considered the best albums of the year. 15. The Smile Sessions- The Beach Boys When Brian Wilson announced that The Smile Sessions would be released, I was ecstatic. I still don’t own a box set to this day, but I’ve been [...]

NO.1 M83 - HURRY UP, WE'RE DREAMING BUY | LOOK | METACRITIC There are some albums that appeal to your head, and then there are some that appeal solely to the heart. In the countdown of our best albums of 2011, PJ Harvey's Let England Shake would be the perfect example of the former, while M832s Hurry Up, We're Dreaming - a double disc of epic electronic prog-pop - is 20112s golden child of the latter category. It aims and hits the bullseye. [...]

I must start off by saying I was rather disappointed with my personal selection of my favourite albums of 2011. In my opinion I felt that this year for music went through a huge wave of different trends and hits. And those trends were both good and bad. Obviously, it is pretty much impossible for me to listen to every genre that there is out there, so I try my best to listen to everything I can.. when I can. Some of the great things that happened this year was the success of many producers and DJ's that [...]

Another year has passed and 2011 has left us with some amazing albums! Here is a list I compiled from my favorites as well as favorites from fellow contributors Michael and Erika . We all have slightly different tastes so together it leaves us with a nice representation of the year. These are in no particular order (that would be too difficult to do). Enjoy and thanks for listening! Hooray for Earth :: True Loves [...]
I've really enjoyed listening to Wolf Larson's Quiet at the Kitchen Door . Check it out here or buy if for as little as $1. WATERS covers Nirvana's "Stay Away" at RCRD LBL . The New York Times reviews Ryan Adams at Carnegie Hall. Rolling Stone lists "The 50 Best Albums of 2011." Steve Hyden of A.V. Club shares his favorite albums and more of 2011. Lots of great [...]

Words by Jacob Barron And now, a list of things heard on "Intro," the first song on M83 's most recent, gorgeously overblown album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming , in chronological order: low foundational groaning, dancing 80s synths, spoken-through-a-desk-fan spoken word, quotes that sound like they were taken from the voiceover in a Terence Malick movie ( The Tree of Life especially), shouted vocals from an historically timid vocalist, harmonies that sound welded together, soaring electronic whines, digital drum rolls, Zola motherfucking Jesus ' viscerally androgynous voice, glockenspiel, [...]
M83 perform "Midnight City" on Fallon . Ben Kweller releases "a musical collage called "Heads & Tails" which "features the beginning and ending of each of the 11 songs off my new album Go Fly A Kite " on Soundcloud . Listen to a new Leonard Cohen song at The Quietus . Listen/download the Yellow Ostrich session on Daytrotter . Watch Caveman's video for "Easy Water" at NPR . Nick Lowe [...]
The GQ Music Issue is out and features some great interviews with Stephen Malkmus , Beck , The Black Keys , Nick Low and many more ! Listen to The Zombies on NPR's World Cafe . Watch M83 and Zola Jesus Perform "Intro" Together in Los Angeles at Pitchfork . Stereogum has videos of Feist On Kimmel. Toro Y Moi performs "Light Black" for Pitchfork.TV .
On M832s latest album, indie dance and synth pop sounds are pumped up and glossed out until they reach almost unrealistic proportions. Not only that, but these ideas are stretched out to a double album length. WATCH THE REVIEW
