(photo: Karl Scullin ) Ooooooweeeeeee. It's time for some new Pikelet everybody. 'Pressure Cooker' is a groovin' jam replete with the characteristically scattered vocals of lead, Evelyn Morris. What this Melbourne based four piece does well, is provide 'alt-pop' that goes completely against the grain. As a band that's a staple on community radio, Pikelet who makes you think about the construction of music than what's presented through perceived national tastemakers. Tagged as 'psych pop' on their Soundcloud, it seems 'Pressure Cooker' does exactly that. From the get [...]

Snoop Lion recently released Reincarnated , the first album under his new animal moniker, solidifying that, yes indeed, the name is here to stay . "No Regrets" is one of the LP's bonus cuts and features T.I. and The Dirty Projectors ' own Amber Coffman . Produced by Major Lazer and Ariel Rechstaid, the jam's got a slow and simmering bounce. Listen to it below.
2013 certainly seems to be a year chock-full of eagerly awaited album releases with Daft Punk releasing Random Access Memories in May and Disclosure's debut album, Settle , coming in June. Before these two, we're treated to the release of Major Lazer's second album, Free the Universe . Free the Universe is the first album from Major Lazer since Switch left the group for "creative differences". Since then, Diplo has fully [...]
King Tubby, the father of dub music, once famously stated: “Roots music is creative music… It’s original. It comes from the heart. If you want to create a different sound, you create that different sound.” Using his custom mixing deck, Tubby became one of Jamaica's biggest celebrities during the 1970s based on the success of his larger soundsystem and the progressive production work he had done with the country's popular artists. Fast-forward four decades and Major Lazer , the fictional Jamaican commando made famous by Diplo and current partners Jillionaire and Walshy Fire, is following a similar trajectory unbeknownst to his devout [...]

Luego de su presentación en Buenos Aires , Diplo se subió, junto a Jillionaire, al escenario de Late Night With Jimmy Fallon con Amber Coffman de Dirty Projectors, the Roots y Dave Longstreth para interpretar Get Free . Mirá este explosivo show, acá. Major Lazer estuvo en la Argentina el pasado 5 de abril en el Planetario. Asímismo, el productor del sello Mad Decent realizó un DJ set el mismo día a la medianoche en MSTRPLN. [...]
You know when you hit saturation point with that one song? You've heard it so many fucking times over – you know its every lyric and every intricate inflexion thereof; you can reproduce its slick lick round the back of your brain; know, and so too fear the exact second it'll end. That is, or rather was where I was at with Get Free – I foolishly believed I could immaculately reproduce Amber Coffman's elastane vocal; redo her squiggly guitar part, and as such I needed something; anything to rejuvenate the adoration. And one might set about questioning how it [...]

photo by Colby Perry Diplo's music project Major Lazer gave a killer performance last night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon . He was joined on the track "Get Free" by Amber Coffman and Dave Longstreth of Dirty Projectors as well as The Roots . Look for Major Lazer's sophomore album Free the Universe on April 16. Not long ago, the phrase " Major Lazer TV performance" might have raised some eyebrows (we're not sure about how well most of the American public would have embraced daggering) but since the Diplo project's arty dub-funk turn with last year's killer single "Get Free," it seems a little more reasonable. Diplo and company, including Dirty Projectors' Amber Coffman and Dave Longstreth and the Roots, brought the track to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night. As usual, Coffman's voice is in fine form, and she, Longstreth [...]

Major Lazer swung by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night to perform "Get Free" and promote their new album Free The Universe. Love the live performance with The Roots and Amber from Dirty Projectors, but I'd have a tough time explaining what Diplo and Jillionaire are doing up there the entire ... Read More
Here's your daily reminder that live performances can still be good. In support of their upcoming sophomore album, Free the Universe , Major Lazer appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night. Even better, The Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth and Amber Coffman showed up to do their own rendition of their song "Get Free," with The Roots lending a helping hand, too. The result, which you can see above, was nothing short of awesome. The post Watch: Major Lazer, Dirty Projectors, and The Roots Perform on Jimmy Fallon appeared [...]
Major Lazer, The Roots y Dirty Projectors en Jimmy Fallon Ayer por la noche, Diplo llevó su proyecto Major Lazer al programa Late Night with Jimmy Fallo n, donde interpretó " Get Free " junto a The Roots y Amber Coffman y Dave Longstreth de Dirty Projectors . Major Lazer got a bit of a facelift last night when they performed on Fallon. While their crazy live show with butt-shaking, crowd-surfing antics is great, this was a serious "best foot forward" move. Diplo and the rest of Major Lazer recruited Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors to sing on "Get Free" with The Roots [...]
If you caught any of Major Lazer's frantic, fun-as-hell festival-rocking live shows over the last few years, you likely saw girls twerking on speaker-risers, Skerritt Bwoy performing death-defying feats of daggering, and Diplo perched behind his DJ table, looking vaguely bemused at the whole spectacle. But the Major Lazer that appeared last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon was a very different beast. Diplo, all suited up, played keyboard on the slow, sultry reggae song " Get Free " while Dirty Projectors singer Amber Coffman cooed on the mic, her bandmate Dave Longstreth held down guitar duties, [...]

With their new album, Free The Universe , due out next Tuesday, the Diplo -led Major Lazer made their way to the stage of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon as the musical guest to perform " Get Free ". Diplo actually shares a majority of the camera time with guests Amber Coffman and David Longstreth, both of Dirty Projectors . The Roots provide some backing instrumentation, too, making this cut truly come to life. It's a laid-back jam to it, but it's still got a serious groove. Watch below.
