CORRIDOR Real Late Manimal When I received the new CD by Multi-instumentalist Michael Quinn, AKA Corridor, I knew that I'd have to listen to it at least ten times before giving my true opinion. His music tends to improve with each listen. Corridor's music is dense, in a good way, full of virtuosic instrumentation that is played deliberately dark. This is not lightweight pop. He's the only cellist in rock and roll whose performances are worthy of playing air cello to. He's truly an artist whose [...]
Raoul Records is very happy to welcome Liviu Groza for the fourth release of the label. After his China Charm EP on Cityfox just before this summer, he's back with 3 tracks that fit perfectly with the sound of the label. It certainly has something to do with house and techno, but Liviu's personal touch is quickly modifying our expectations, for the pleasure of our ears.

DBTY!

Our bassloving homies from Buenos Aires, Subklub , (responsible for tearing up the ears of the web every friday , and the ears of BA every now and then), just released the ep Manimal by Un Mono Azul. It's basically the perfect mixture of tropical drum riddims, cumbia guiros, wobbly basslines and heavy synth melodies. Plus some nice castellano vocals. And the best of all? It's free! Download here! [...]
Your feelings about the music of L.A.'s Juliette Commagere may be, in some small way, tied to your initial thoughts of the oversized plumage atop her head in a recent press shot (see below) and album cover. Dramatic? Pretentious? Artsy? In many respects, Commagere's new October 26 album The Procession (Manimal) has all of those various elements and then some. But if you let your guard down just a bit, chances are you - like us - will get drawn into the dark, moody depths of Commagere's eclectic, plugged-in art/pop. Much like Natasha Khan's superior '09 [...]

Repetition - A Tribute to David Manimal is set to release a tribute album to David Bowie with a host of great talent (see tracklist) here's a cover from Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zero's we especially found to our liking. The album will see daylight on September 6 with 100% of the proceeds going to War Child International . Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes - "Memory of a Free Festival" (David Bowie Cover) [...]
From the Rolling Stones to a bit of melodic goth to some classy power metal. Power metal - Arts - Business - Review - Specialty
VOICEsVOICEs might be like the middle of every great Led Zeppelin song, or maybe like Yoko Ono played backwards while in a warm cave. Their new EP—produced by Prefuse 73—is out now on Manimal Vinyl. This interview by Scott Schultz.
Ariel Pink's Haunted Grafitti - The Doldrums, Devendra Banhart - Cripple Crow, David Sylvian - Blemish
The ethereal loop-loving duo from Los Angeles VOICEsVOICEs are finally dropping their produced-by-Guillermo-Scott-He rren-aka-Prefuse-73 EP, Origins, on January 23, 2010, and we've got a track from the Nico and Jenean called "Flulyk Visions" which pretty much encompasses everything we love about...
Manimal Records owner Paul Beahan is hosting the 2nd annual Manimal Festival today and tomorrow in Joshua Tree with 20 bands including Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Hecuba, Warpaint, Alexandra Hope and many more. Beahan sat down at a French Cafe to discuss Manimal Festival and which KROQ artist he would sign in under a minute. Interview by Scott Schultz.
austin young Persian fusion band Niyaz will perform a special show at the Orange County Great Park this Saturday—fans of Rainbow Arabia and Manimal will want to see what this is about... The music of Niyaz fuses traditional Persian music and Sufi poetry—some dating as far back as the 13th century-with decidedly modern ambient trance and dance [...]

Happy end of August, Waveriders! The kids are getting their fresh new haircuts and being prepped for the return to school, the summer nights are a little more chilled, big men in pads and leotards are chasing around other men holding an oblong object of sorts, all of these events just leading to autumn. Sigh . . . that means hockey season is right around the corner. You can't see my smile right now, but ever see a picture of the Cheshire Cat? Yeah. I think you're getting the picture. Anyway, I digress once again. This has been a super [...]
Caroline Weeks had Spaceland sitting cross-legged on the floor with hands politely folded in their laps. One fellow with candle wax melted atop his head perched on a stool near the stage—were those tears gathered at his eyes? Or makeup? His named turned out to be Debutante, of San Francisco. He performed with opener Universe. I wish I caught their act, but to enter a room in the throws of Caroline Weeks was a riveting, awkward moment worth cherishing. It's rare you walk into a concert and feel like excusing your tardiness to the tea party.
My Troubled Mind —released digitally and on happily hostile 10" vinyl, as perfectly fits the world's only Dorothy Ashby fan with a SHUT UP STUPID BITCH! t-shirt—is nominally an instrumental beat record. But play it at Dub Club, at Mas Exitos, at Echo Curio or at Manimal Fest and it will fit like it was especially commissioned. In seven songs and snippets, he dissolves and resolves together again dub and psych and hip-hop and rock and kraut and electronics and if not now he'll certainly soon grab Pete Drake and his talking guitar and claw off a little piece of [...]
The Polyamorous Affair make bolshevik disco-pop in a mossy compound in Los Feliz and emerge only to teach kindergarten, play shows or get snowed on. They have an album due on Manimal and co-founder Eddie Chacon used to be in a band with Cliff Burton. This interview by Dan Collins.
Download: Alexandra Hope "Invisible Sunday" After plenty of airplay on French radio and recording with members of the Fiery Furnaces, Alexandra Hope will release her new album Invisible Sunday on Manimal early next month. This is the title track.

Bat for Lashes – A Forest (The Cure Cover) ( mp3 ) Katrine Ottosen – The Love Cats (The Cure Cover) ( [...]
