There really isn't much to say about the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. It looks fine, even though it seems like they are purposely running away from the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire trilogy to distinguish one series from the other. This one seems darker, more sarcastic, blah blah blah. I just wish they didn't give away the entire movie in the trailer above. Kind of feels like I've seen the whole thing now.
The first teaser trailer for director Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man has finally hit the web, har har. It's got a strong cast with Andrew Garfield stepping into the role of Peter Parker, and rounded out by the likes of Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and Denis Leary. Initially, this looks almost too similar to the first Raimi film, but it's obviously going for "gritty and realistic" rather than archly funny. Here, Peter Parker isn't a wise-cracking hyper-intelligent teen who gets [...]

There isn't much to note in the blurb that Marc Webb's reboot of the Spider-man franchise will now be called The Amazing Spider-Man, which harkens back to the comics of the 19602s and 19702s. The title change is a welcome one, and if the movie does well - seems like Webb knows what he's doing - it opens the possibility for other titles in the series like The Spectacular Spider-Man and the Ultimate Spider-Man, etc. I love the picture above, which was also released with this news. You get a strong sense of the costume, the mechanical shooters [...]

Sony released the first official shot of Andrew Garfield in the Spidey suit today. Photos of Garfield ( Never Let Me Go , The Social Network ) and Emma Stone ( Superbad , Zombieland ) on set as Peter Parker and love interest Gwen Stacy leaked a few weeks ago, but this is the first official look we've seen at your new friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. When a Spider-Man reboot was first announced last year, I, like most fans of Sam Raimi's take on the franchise, was equal parts aghast and confused. That's [...]

I know this is a promo picture and means very little in how Marc Webb's "Spider-man" reboot will be good or bad, but on the merits of this photo alone, I'd say Sony did a bang up job. The suit looks pretty spectacular, certainly better than Ryan Reynold's Green Lantern suit and Garfield looks the part of Peter Parker. Even his hair isn't that bad. Having just seen Garfield in the Mark Romanek "Never Let Me Go" adaptation, he's more than qualified in the acting category. Count me as cautiously excited for how this reboot could [...]

Oh my! For all you doubters out there... I mean, this guy really fills out the Spidey-suit nicely. Wow! Oh, excuse me! Pardon my drooling, FINALLY we get a first look at Andrew Garfield as our new 'Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man '. Yum. Marc Webb 's untitled 3D Spider-Man reboot is due out July 3, 2012. You're welcome! image credit

I suppose I'd be okay with the news that Linsday Lohan has been cast in director Marc Webb's Spider-Man rebooting effort as Mary Jane Watson, except that it's been a long long long time since the Mean Girls/Herbie Fully Loaded era for Lindsay Lohan, which is when she would've been perfect for the role. Now? It's hard to say. She's been out of work and out of buzz for a few years, with the only notable credit to her name the movie Labor Pains. Maybe this can [...]

With (500) Days of Summer finally getting the wide release it deserves, I figured there was no better time to file my review for it's wonderfully indie soundtrack. I always struggle and overanalyze any attempts I make at a mixed CD, trying to balance the indie-pop gems while tucking in a few guilty pleasures so needless to say, this soundtrack does wonders for me. Kudos must go out to the director of this fine film, Marc Webb , who makes his big screen directorial debut, showcasing his background and [...]
Above is an extra video-thingie for the film 500 Days of Summer . It's directed by Marc Webb, who also helmed the movie and features the two actors from the film, Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It's goofy and not the best choreography, but it's charming and something that young, awkward kids can relate to. This is exactly how I dance when I'm out at a club. There's no rhyme or reason to my moves and yes, I'll throw in a hopscotch or two. What's that? Oh yes, that's me doing the lawn mower. Anyway, [...]

First full-length trailer for Marc Webb's 500 Days of Summer , starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. Due in theaters July 17.

Romantic comedies are one of the most difficult genre to pull off successfully. The cliches and beats of the movies are well-worn to the point that our enjoyment of these movies depends largely on the chemistry between the leads and the machinations leading towards that final happy ending. Take those familiar beats (quirky or high stress meeting, getting to know you phase, chaotic situation tears them apart, realization of love, pronouncement of that love in a public gesture) and twist them or reorder them or do something to make them not feel familiar. Because you know the [...]
