When you hear the phrase "Directed by Michael Bay," you probably think of some if not all of the following things: giant robots, massive explosions, military hardware, unnecessarily scantily clad and impossibly thin women and an insane amount of quick edits. You probably don't think "passion project." But that's what we get here. In order [...] The post Film Review: Pain & Gain appeared first on Spinning Platters .
Bodhi takes on Mark Wahlberg's classic track " Good Vibrations ", as expected the results are amazing. The post Marky Mark And The Funky Bunch - Good Vibrations (Bodhi Remix) appeared first on .

The other day, my friend Nancy made an interesting request: "I'd like to get your take on cinematic sibling relationships -- who's convincing and who's not." What followed was several days of emails in which we explored Hollywood's representation of brothers and sisters, past and present. Over the course of our siblings revelry, I made a few surprising discoveries. The first one was personal: When Nancy introduced the topic of celluloid brothers and sisters, the one that immediately came to mind was You Can Count on Me . Really? Is the 2000 drama that made Laura [...]

Coheed and Cambria The Afterman: Descension V2/Everything Evil 04 February 2013 by Ruth Booth Coheed and Cambria’s star had never been higher. Claudio Sanchez and his bandmates stood amongst the most celebrated progressive rock acts of the past decade. Not the departure of sticksmith Chris Pennie, not even their ex-bassist's drug store robbery could drag them down. Then [...]
Director Michael Bay taps into his inner Coen Brothers fetish for the story of a couple of juiced up bodybuilders who get caught up in an extortion ring and a kidnapping plot. Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson are those juiced up bodybuilders. A fantastic choice since both of these guys are steathily great at comedy. Also starring Ed Harris, Rebel Wilson, and Tony Shalhoub. In theaters April 26, 2013.

I think it would be safe to say that since our last visit onto Panic City ’s long and colourful runway, Mr. P.C. has gone under a complete transformation to not only push his own sound further than the length of the cosmos and the space that exists between the seen/unseen, but he has managed to give that hint of underground mystic and aural-delicacy uniqueness that can only be found inside our imaginative inner bounds. Leading the way through a curiously titled Marky Mark ode, producer Panic City digs deep into his sample bank of surprises [...]

San Francisco's own resident DJ Panic City has been on a roll as of late, banging out remixes and originals like a champ. We've been fans of his work for awhile now, most recently featuring his killer remix of The xx's track Chained , and he just continues to impress. This latest bootleg combining one of our favorite tracks this year, Spectrum , with his own remix of Adele's 007 theme Skyfall is much akin to a fresh spicy tuna roll – equal parts refreshing and shock to your system. Coheed and Cambria The Aftermath: Ascension V2/Everything Evil 08 October 2012 by Ruth Booth In a pair of shove-crazy years, it was a zenith of surreality. No, not when former bassist Michael Todd left in sub-Tap circumstances , whose exit was followed in short order by that of Dillinger Escape Plan founder, Chris Pennie . [...]

Family Guy has Peter Griffin and his dog Brian. Ted has John Bennett and his teddy bear...Ted. And that's just where the similarities begin. Seth MacFarlane is not only the creator of both, but is the voice of Brian and Ted; Mila Kunis features in both; both are accompanied by light-hearted jazz scores. Ted even references Family Guy specifically – at times literally using the same voices (look [...]
It's Monday, it's my kid's first day of school (literally; we're talking first day of kindergarten here), my wife's first day back at school (as a teacher) and ... for me it's just the same old shit. But keep in ... Continue reading

"Mark Wahlberg and Liam Neeson are mulling over offers to headline director Vicenzo Natali's long-gestating adaptation of Neuromancer , based on the classic literary offering by William Gibson." Read on

My husband and I finally saw Ted. As fans of Family Guy , we were excited to see what Seth McFarlane would do with his first feature length film. We expected juvenile humour, stupidity, silliness and vulgarity and we were treated to all of that, but we left the theatre feeling like there should have been more. Working with a walking, talking Teddy bear in a feature length movie with an R-rating, McFarlane could have and should have gone all out with this film. Instead, he created a familiar main story, and padded [...]

Walk-in or not, the closet can be a lonely, dangerous place, and not just for those who are afraid of the dark. It's a treacherous domain, whether you're hiding inside of it or standing on the outside, waiting in vain for someone you love to emerge. I've languished on both sides of that closed door, and believe me, nobody wins until it has been flung open wide. But despite the pain of playing that waiting game, I steadfastly believe that only the person on the inside should have access to the key that unlocks the door. [...]
