They say there are no windows in casinos so that gamblers lose track of the time spent at the countless card tables and slot machines in Las Vegas. Wow! Coming on stage around 12:30am Monday morning, there were no tired eyes showing from Robert Pollard and Guided by Voices, who pumped out one helluva rock n roll show at the Matador at 21 fest in Las Vegas . This weekend, a select group of lucky people will travel to Las Vegas not to gamble but rather celebrate the 21st anniversary of Matador Records. Ok, so maybe some gambling will be involved since Matador at 21 is set to take place at the Palms Desert Resort casino, but I'm guessing most will stick to Pearl Theatre, where acts like Pavement, Belle & Sebastian, Sonic Youth, Guided By Voices, and a bunch of other Matador bands are set to perform over the weekend. To celebrate their 21st anniversary Matador records is set to release a six-CD boxset featuring some of their past and present artists. Among the bands featured on the collection are Interpol , Pavement , Spoon , Belle & Sebastian , and Cat Power . The boxset, entitled ' Matador At 21 ', is set to feature a total of 99 tracks. The label describes it this way: "The limited-edition box contains five CDs documenting the history of the label with remastered songs released from 1989 through 2010, and one CD of unreleased live recordings from the Matador 10th Anniversary concerts in New York City in 1999.
