Photo: Nicholas Chatfield-Taylor Everybody's favourite Brooklyn duo, Matt & Kim , are back with a new sophomore album titled Grand and it picks right up from from where their self-titled album left off. Their prominent bass-heavy, synth sound again takes charge with the most novelty of vocals. With "Daylight" being an uplifting introduction, the following track, "Cutdown" gets straight to business - its rough and energetic. Whereas "Don't Slow Down" is a jittery dance number. "Cinders" gets naked, focusing on their synth-and-beat based sound. Consistent in Grand is their energy and [...]

AC Newman Get Guilty AC Newman - "Changeling (Get Guilty)" from Dusted Reviews ..."Unpacking all the things that go into Newman’s songs would take too long. (It’s already taken too long, and we haven’t gotten to half of them.) The main thing to remember is, there’s always more than meets the ear, perhaps even more than necessary. Get Guilty isn’t an easy album at all. It just sounds like one." Andrew Bird Noble Beast [...]
Monday: Department of Eagles + Here We Go Magic @ Bowery Ballroom 8pm $15 Last year the buzz coming from the Grizzly Bear side project known as Department of Eagles was deafening. Everyone, it seemed, adored this once stalled project. This year the same thing is happening to Luke Temple's new project Here We Go Magic. People have been buzzing like crazy over this stuff and for damn good reason as it's pretty awesome. Tonight the bands are paired together making for one of the best buzz band lineups of the month! Next Friday, January 23 brings the next in one of favorite party series in New York, the collaboration between Finger On The Pulse and Palms Out Sounds known as No Big Deal. Now only days away from the epic blow out that will be Moulinex and Xinobi in their US debut. Also, the kids are debuting Matt & Kim's new album Grand at 9:30 so get there early and Udachi and Hoop Dreams are lending their support, tearing it up with bass heavy, ridiculously [...]

Not my typical style of music, Matt & Kim , the Brooklyn duo, somehow find a way to keep me listening. And that's why I'm excited for the new album release, Grand , January 20, and for the upcoming record release show at Williamsburg Music Hall in Brooklyn. They have pounding beats over danceable (if you're into awkward, semi-robotic moves, like we are...), hard hitting pop. It's sort of an acquired taste, and I'm usually not so good with that - which is why my enjoyment of Matt & Kim [...]
Bon Iver This is the Pampelmoose edition of the New Music Hour on Portland's 94.7FM. You can hear me on air every Tuesday and Thursday at 8PM and you can also stream the entire show and the show archives here. And as always, if you like what you hear you can click on the Amazon banner [...]
I pride myself on being able to find any mp3 I seek out. I am a determined, strong-willed internet music warrior and I've never failed at this challenge, until today. Our friends Hey Champ , who we've blogged about quite a lot here at CreamTeam, passed along a new remix of their track Cold Dust Girl from Japanese indie-pop band Rufus . Rufus are friends with the 80kidz (who recently did another heavily-blogged remix for Hey Champ). They heard the track and decided to give it their own take and [...]

Not only will our next president, Barack Obama , have a milestone day on January 20 (his inauguration, duh), it's also going to serve as the release date for the sophomore effort from Matt and Kim , Grand . There have already been tracks released since the band's debut ("Daylight", "Good Ol Fashion Nightmare"), but this will mark the first full length since then. To celebrate, the kids are playing a show in Brooklyn on January 22, 48 hours after the release. Deets: Jan 22 Brooklyn, NY Music Hall of Williamsburg $10 [...]
Continuing our collection of hilarious-or-not-at-all list-getting from all of our friends, today's "un-top-10" comes from Charlotte , promoter for Luxe Presents (who brings the monthly Rock Me Sexy Brooklyn party to Europa) and Chicago transplant, sent us in her list and said, "since I'm the best dressed promoter in town (holla!), I thought I'd do the un-top 10 list of hipster what not to wear." 10 Ironic tee shirts: you already have an ironic mustache, why do you need your shirt to point out your wit? 09 Bright colored tights: your legs should not look like [...]

The following discussion was recently prompted by a friend, thus bringing to attention the emergence of new record labels as subsidiaries from major brands, which is rather intriguing. We have seen Mountain Dew ( Green Label Sound ), Starbucks ( Hear Music ), Bacardi (Bat Label) and many more establishing their own record labels in this already competitive music industry. Locally, Levi’s Levity Label has been making quite a commotion on our music scene with weekly parties and significant artist signings. Levity’s overnight prominence makes the life for local, smaller record labels that bit more difficult. These [...]
Who: Cut Copy + Matt & Kim When: March 21st Where: Terminal 5 More Dates Thoughts: The pairing of Cut Copy with Matt & Kim may be a little odd, but I am far more flabbergasted by both bands playing Terminal 5 then anything else about this tour. I know they have solid followings and all but that place is freakin' huge! Whatever, they are two awesome bands so I may just be making the venture to
Check out some new songs from artists you have been hearing today during New Tunes Tuesday below. In addition, there are some tracks from bands we have been playing on Nothing But New, which is today at 6pm ET. Enjoy! From New Tunes Tuesday Today. So, just in time for Halloween, there's a compilation album about people who've died and are buried in the Lone Fir Cemetery in Portland, by all Portland artists! It's called (D)early Departed , and the proceeds go to maintaining and improving an important piece of our history: a graveyard in the heart of our city, which started in the 1850's and final resting place of many of our founders, as well as some of lower estate. Matt and Kim have been missing in action since their now super famous song 'Yeah Yeah' had run its course. Speculation hit the blog world that this fun-loving pop duo from Brooklyn had called it quits. Thankfully for all of us, this hasn't happened. Finally, Matt and Kim are back with more playful pop jams to brighten your day. Check out the newly released video for 'Daylight' from this perma-smiling couple. If you're lucky enough there still might be tickets left to their Nov. 8th show at Whippersnapper Gallery here in T.O. [...]

Matt and Kim are an infused indie pop duo from Brooklyn with raw and catchy tunes. Their track Yea Yeah which really allowed them to take off came out over a year ago and they have done it again with the newly released Daylight single [video above]. I first say Matt and Kim in Toronto last summer when they played at Mod Club and quickly realized that they are probably the happiest people I have ever seen. Their whole set both of them had a huge smile across their faces and were authentically loving life being super [...]
I haven't paid attention to Matt and Kim since that Flosstradamus remix but this new one is cute (as the happy cult these two are obviously in). From their forthcoming album Grand . Matt and Kim - Daylight
We're going to call this an also known as "little spaces, big smiles" because, well, that's what Matt and Kim do. They make you smile and, real talk, if you can't smile while listening to them or watching this video, please go somewhere else. We're haters for sure, but it wouldn't be even remotely right to think poorly of these kids. They just ooze happy. The band's sophomore record, Grand , will be out, well, we don't actually know. (mp3) Matt and Kim - No More Long Years Godspeed!

If there's one band on this planet that could put a smile on your face, it's Matt & Kim. Whether live or via music video, their happiness is contagious. They are second on my list of couples that need to have a baby immediately. There are just some people that are so awesome alone, not to mention together, that they owe it to humanity to procreate. In case you were wondering, the couple that was first on my list was Amy Poehler and Will Arnett . Amy looks ready to pop any day now, so [...]

New Matt and Kim video for Daylight premieres today! I'm amped. Per their latest Myspace bulletin: In the video are such things as kim wanting to gag while in a dumpster, my hip F'n killin me while trying play in a freezer (of a refrigerator), and a wet t-shirt contest between kim and i while playing music in the shower, (that's half true) and us in some other equally stupid places. It premiers on MTV2 today at 4pm, 8pm and 10pm. and i've heard we're sorta speckled in through out [...]

The ever-expanding CMJ Music Festival is around the corner in NYC, and the odds-on favorite is Matt and Kim , who are riding the sort of internet publicity that inevitably proves (a) the internet is mostly wrong, (b) when the internet is right, it's spot-on, and (c) it rarely matters how talented you actually are. So, Matt and Kim have done Lollapalooza ('07), and have been on MTV (Europe, natch), and are, like, legendary in NY for their "energetic" live shows. (Wikipedia - God! You make me so angry!) Anyway, "Daylight" really owes itself to its stomping symphony and [...]
