I was just having a conversation with someone (I believe it was Nick from WJHU) about how it seemed that the remix craze had seemingly died down a bit, and how there had not been as many memorable... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: Washed Out, Toro y Moi, Memory Tapes "Neon Indian - Should Have Taken Acid With You" What's so good? No one goes to San Francisco’s Mezzanine thinking they will not dance; it’s just going to happen. When Neon Indian and Prefuse 73 played there recently, there was no exception. From the dense cloud of smoke emanating from the back alley smoking section, you could take a [...]

All photography by Minh Lee Only its fourth year Field Day has already experienced its fair share of teething problems. The infamous first year saw over-crowding issues result in long toilet queues with the prospect of a clutching a cold beverage in your hand a thing of myth, whilst the proceeding two years were a complete wash out with sound issues to boot. The line-up however has always been the festivals saving grace, boasting performances from Florence & The Machine , Foals , Laura Marling , Mogwai , Wild Beasts [...]
In crafting what is deemed personally nostalgic, Dan Lopatin and Joel Ford share a fondness with many others in their late 20s or early 30s. Young enough to remember the '80s peaks, yet too old to concern themselves with the decade's abundance of conformity, their songwriting recalls the more innovative attempts at stylistic fusion during [...]

Golden Ages From: Philidelphia, Pennsylvania, United States Phili experimental psych popsters Golden Ages is the pseudonym of Francis Tseng a one man electro machine riding the glo-wave zeitgeist like a champion surfer on Gatorade. His latest EP, Tradition released on Indiecator Records in April, a big, bold and awesome electronic epic in the mold of Memory Tapes , Washed Out and Toro Y Moi , was constructed by [...]

On a day when incessant rain is threatening to turn Singapore into an ex-island, it seems entirely appropriate to revisit the halcyon days of summer 2009, when evocative lo-fi pop was firmly back on the agenda and everything had a sunny, hazy, chilled-out kinda vibe. Time for some Washed Out wethinks. Ernest Green arrived in the same explosion of talent that brought us Memory Cassette/Tapes , Neon Indian , Toro Y Moi , Best Coast and Real Estate , releasing one of the year's most talked-about [...]

Seeing as it's the long weekend we've gathered a few tunes for that long drive, pottering about the garden or just kicking back with a cold one. Inspired by the chillwave/hypnagogic/glo-fi scene going on State-side, it's a tranquil collection to say the least - so don't adjust your sets. A few names will pop up a more than once, they are close-circle, obliging each other with remixes and covers. Memoryhouse (who have just been added to the Oxegen line-up - odd) are at the forefront of the scene, remixing Mathemagic and Cloud [...]
Over the last week or so a massive group of remixes have dropped. Most of the time I would devote an entire post to each one, but seeing how I've yet to post on them why not just cram into one... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
Quite a few solo artists rode in on the chillwave last summer, with hazy, lazy songs perfect for well, chillin' out (at the beach, if possible). In the vein of Neon Indian, Memory Tapes and friend Washed Out, Toro Y Moi -Chazwick Bundick-stepped up with blissful singles that garnered blog love leading up to his first full-length. The Columbia, S.C. native released his debut Causers of This (Carpark) earlier this year to critical appreciation: NME called him a " glo-fi pioneer " while Pitchfork said he showed " skill far beyond most of his peers [...]

Frank Yang I've seen Shearwater's latest album The Golden Archipelago referred to as the final part in both a trilogy and triptych in the band's discography, completing the set started with 2006's Palo Santo and 2008's Rook . The "trilogy" appellation doesn't really fit, however, as it implies that there's some sort of overarching narrative across the records whereas the single unified tapestry implied by calling it triptych seems much more appropriate. Not that these are anything [...]
Six months can seem like an eternity in the blogosphere, and for Ernest Greene, it's barely been little longer than that since his project Washed Out was plucked from relative obscurity to being championed by outlets ranging from random tumblr accounts, to Pitchfork ( Best New Music for "Feel It All Around" ) to the Wall Street Journal . In March, Washed Out kicked off his inaugural tour, hitting the road with another "chillwave" contemporary, Brooklyn's Small Black , who recently released a full-length on Jagjaguwar . [...]

Tanner : After staying with friends and grabbing lunch at the popular local diner, Magnolia Cafe on South Congress Ave, we headed for 6th street. We got a later start to the day than we wanted as it was already mid afternoon by the time we made it to the festival. Much to my surprise, we had perfect timing. GWAR on the streets of Austin As we were [...]

Filed under: Exclusive , Northern Exposure , Canada Every now and then, a new band comes along that justifies all the blog hype heaped upon them. Guelph, Ontario duo Memoryhouse 's dreamy electro is like falling head over heels in love -- it's easy to become enraptured by composer Evan Abeele and vocalist Denise Nouvion's gorgeously gauzy melodies set to softly washed-out beats. The pair's been lumped in with the "chillwave" scene, but while Memoryhouse's music does put them squarely within the same framework as acts like [...]

Is it time to start listing the best tracks of year already? Why yes, yes it is. Now, a lot of these tracks have been available for a while (e.g. last year or in the GT 2010 preview ), but they either had their official release this year or I just thought they should be on this list for some other reason or another. Without further ado, I give you the first volume of the Best Downloadables of 2010. Downloadables: Spector (mp3) by Signals [...]

Dam Funk @ SXSW 2010 A mammoth day in which I caught a lot of bands. Here are the highlights of the Friday from Austin. Local Natives One of last year's breakout hits of SXSW, this year the LA harmony-heavy indie band returned to the place where everyone knew who they were and wanted to see them again. In that year, as a band they've got tighter but if you were at their recent Dublin show you'll know that already. North America has been slow to catch up [...]

Just a glimpse at some of the madness taking place in Austin, Texas at SXSW next week in terms of bands and parties. I'll be covering what I see there right here next week. Some MP3s from the official SXSW of bands on my hitlist: Brahms - Toward The Ghost Boat Beam - The Rain Pauly Everything Everything - My Keys, Your Boyfriend Freelance Whales - Generator 2nd Floor Lissie - [...]

25 tracks from artists that Urban Outfitters will be showcasing in their Austin store for SXSW for download and/or stream. I am struck by how this story is exactly like Godzilla. Unfortunately, we're in the middle of a snow storm in NYC and there's nothing pretty about it. Everything is closed and since I don't cook there's no food in my apartment, these are rough times friends. As has become customary, my only answer for bad weather is good music so this morning I woke up looked out the window and immediately knew it was time to put Toro y Moi's Causers of This on the turntable. Chaz Bundick along with Washed Out, Neon Indian and Memory Tapes is one the main ambassadors of the relatively new genre dubbed [...]
