Metronomy are in town tonight for a show at the Mod Club. The English dance-pop act has mostly been under the radar for most of their career until recently, when their sophomore album The English Riveira got a nomination for the Mercury Prize. Before the nomination, you might have heard about them through a host of remixes including a remix of Kate Nash's Foundation as well as a breakbot remix of one of their track A Thing For Me . Well, I'm here to tell you that Metronomy has been making stellar head boppin, [...]

She might not have picked up the Mercury Prize Award for her sophomore album 21 , but she won not one but two Q magazine awards for her efforts. Adele's latest album has been certified platinum 10 times in the UK. It comes as no surprise that it would get that kind of reception. It seems the throat problems that she is having with her health recently stopped her from attending the event. We hope she is OK. Looks like the team over at Domino Records finally decided to take my (Hollywood Q) advice (I kid) and release one of thee best tracks of 2011. The love fest for Anna Calvi continues as the Romain Chassaing Directed 'Suzanne and I' taken from her eponymous debut, has been given the green light. A striking visual that captivates this phenom of a song is above.

Last week the English songstress PJ Harvey won the Mercury Prize for her eighth studio album, Let England Shake , making her the first artist to ever win the award twice. She performed "The Words That Maketh Murder" from the new record at the awards ceremony. Additionally, today Harvey is releasing an exclusive iTunes Session that can be pre-ordered on the iTunes Store . The EP features seven recently recorded live tracks along with an interview by Harvey herself. [...]

Congratulations to Polly Jean Harvey for winning the Mercury Prize for the second time, the only artist to do so. Harvey won for her album Let England Shake, a wonderfully conceived and elegantly controlled tribute to a nation and its armed forces. 10 years after her first win and deeply affected by the aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks in 2001, Harvey has created a deeply involved album that burns slowly but lacks cohesive and direct execution. It dances around delicately, almost lacklustre in its approach and delivery, with hard-hitting graphic lyrics intertwined with softened distanced vocals and music. [...]
In case you missed them, we wrote previously on this year's Mercury Prize shortlist and our writers weighed on who they thought should win and who should have received a nod from this year's nomination committee. Just prior to the shortlist being announced, it was strong, talented representatives of "the fairer sex" who topped the bookies' top bets: Adele and PJ Harvey were neck and neck as the odds on favourite. These two lovely ladies continued to be strong favourites throughout [...]

It came as a shock to most everybody that Polly Jean Harvey would've beat Adele this year for the coveted British Mercury Prize award. Ten years after winning the same prize for her timeless classic, "Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea," PJ Harvey wins again for "Let England Shake." What better time than now would it be for the release of her iTunes session to be released? The session includes an interview to end the set and make sure to check out the tracklisting below and purchase the session here . [...]
Photo Credit: Seamus Murphy A big congratulations to one Polly Jean Harvey for her Mercury Prize victory on Monday. I had originally picked Adele to win in my prediction post but also noted " It'd be a nice story to have Polly Jean win, given her work rate and maturation as a writer in the past decade" and that statement remains completely true. Let England Shake was a fantastic album and deserving of all the accolades it has been receiving. She is the first two time winner, which is quite surprising, not [...]
Metronomy have written one of the best albums of the year with The English Riviera - a Mercury Prize nominated gem. For whatever reasons in the past (probable pictures like this ), I wrote them off as a gimmicky electro band. With this most recent album they have proven me SO wrong. It's brimming with thoughtful, well-composed and well developed electronic music with live instrumentation. There are three contenders for top song - "The Look", "The Bay" and "She Wants". The front runner right [...]

Every fall for the last 20+ years, legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young has assembled an all-star roster of musicians for a charity concert to benefit the Bridge School – a school which assists children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. Now in its 25th year, this year's event will feature performances from Young, Arcade Fire, Dave Matthews, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, Tony Bennett, Mumford & Sons, Beck, Diana Krall, Jenny Lewis and Los Invisibles featuring Carlos Santana. The usually all-acoustic shows will take place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif. [...]

► PJ Harvey won the Mercury Prize last night for her eighth album "Let England Shake," beating out the likes of Adele, James Blake and Elbow and becoming the first artist to win the award twice. "I feel surprised and astonished that I've won twice and I do feel proud, it's amazing," she said afterward. "I can't quite take it in but at the same time I feel that making music and words is very important to me and I've always tried to make it the best it could possibly be and I hope to continue doing that." [...]

There have been a few baubles dished out this week, some shiny and some distinctly tatty , and I have to confess that from a barely-interested outsider's perspective, it's been pretty funny. Even the Mercury Prize result, which I was kinda disappointed in because my pal didn't win, created all sorts of comedy on Twitter and elsewhere. The best was probably The Pop Cop's hilarious rant about the Scottish New Music Awards . Now, I wasn't there, but looking at the results alone, they must have been pretty fucking hilarious. Sandy Thom? [...]
Well-deserved. She previously won the award in 2001 for her fifth studio album, Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea . This year she topped a short list of 11 other nominees, including mainstream it-girl Adele's 21 . PJ Harvey has booted off all the competition, including mainstream favorite Adele, to win the prestigious Mercury Prize. The award goes out to one album a year and PJ Harvey deserved it for making her best album to date after years in the industry. It's truly a formidable album to overcome. Let England Shake has great ditties and a beautiful concept. We are happy for her. Related articles PJ Harvey Wins the Mercury Prize (pitchfork.com) [...]

Yesterday, PJ Harvey became the first musician to win the Mercury Prize twice . Several videos from the ceremony have since hit the web, and here's what it looked like when her latest LP, Let England Shake , was crowned the best album in all of the UK and Ireland: Harvey also performed the album track, "The Words That Maketh Murder": James Blake didn't win, but he did deliver a performance of "The Wilhelm Scream": [...]
It's no surprise that Adele is rolling in accolades this year considering the triumphant success of her sophomore album 21 . Last night, the British songbird was celebrated with her second-ever nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize, which awards UK artists for best albums of the yea. While the "Turning Tables" siren may have ultimately lost out to PJ Harvey's Let England Shake , we highly doubt this will be the pop star's last shot at taking home the crown.
