Review: Meredith Music Festival 2012

Review: Meredith Music Festival 2012 A festival that has become so renowned tickets are impossible to buy even from scalpers. It was my first time at Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre  and I was about to get a crash course on how to have the weekend of my life. There were only good things to be said about the festival as we headed there and although the queues were long, hot and uncomfortable, we were greeted with Red Bull fairies handing out refreshments in the line. The ticket swiping was all done very quick and we were on the dusty path to our campsite in [...]

Meredith Music Festival 2012

Meredith Music Festival 2012 Photo by James Jardine . Arriving at the amphitheatre for the first time on that warm Friday morning my convoy and I could barely contain the anticipation that had building for weeks. But we had finally made it to the Meredith Music Festival for 2012. As we all scurried about setting up our tents, we made it on time to the opening of the festival by one of our very favourite’s of the year, POND . No stranger to their live show, POND provided their usually blend of psychedelia and rock to a crowd [...]

INTERVIEW: Boomgates

INTERVIEW: Boomgates BOOMGATES are quite simply a great band. Composed of a bunch of Melbournian friends, the five piece just want to hang out, write songs and play gigs. So they do. They aren't just any regular band though, they're a super group, respectively. Made up of members from  Eddy Current Suppression Ring ,  Dick Diver ,  Twerps and other great projects, Boomgates are a serious cluster of musicians who really just seem to know what they're doing. Their music has been described by their label - Bedroom Suck Records - as [...]

TOP FIVES: Boutique Festivals

TOP FIVES: Boutique Festivals It's no secret that over the past few years, some of Australia's most popular festivals have suffered from average ticket sales. People will blame the price, the quality and originality of the line up, the competition, or a combination of the three as the reasons why the mainstream music festival market has struggled so greatly. With the downfall of large-scale music events in Australia, it has opened up an opportunity for a boutique market. Instead of forking out at least $130 to see a bunch of acts that live music enthusiasts, including myself, have [...]

TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT: Four Tet

TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT: Four Tet What has a 9 million thumbs, a big old bridge, and is about to be spoiled rotten? Yup, get psyched Sydney, because London glitch-king FOUR TET is dropping by to play a show at The Metro on Saturday December 8 while he’s in Australia for the Meredith Music Festival . The last time Kieran Hebden visited Down Under was alongside fellow electro-superstar Caribou in 2011, and he’s since released his sixth album Pink so expect new material if you’re lucky [...]

LISTEN: Four Tet ‘Peace For Earth’

LISTEN: Four Tet ‘Peace For Earth’ A delicate composition that channels a Zen mood and electronic energy, the new track from UK-based producer FOUR TET is a subdued version of his abstract work. The previously unreleased piece off his latest album PINK , ‘Peace For Earth’ stays true to its name with a pending, serene nature to the music. Delicate and unassuming, ‘Peace For Earth’ spans over eleven minutes, and is comparable to his previous track ‘She Just Likes To Fight’ which was featured on UK TV show Skins . [...]

Meredith Music Festival 2011

Meredith Music Festival 2011 (Photo by Kristy Milliken) Rocking up to someone's 21st birthday bash, is always fun. Yet, turning up when you don't know that person from a bar of soap, is a pretty radical move. With the Meredith Music Festival 2011, this cheeky move turned out to be one of the best decisions of my entire life. Expectations were daunting, Meredith has always been one of the most talked up events on the musical calender and for good reason. It would be impossible to recount every experience, sight and sound of Meredith 2011, so here are a few of the highlights [...]

Meredith Music Festival 2011

Meredith Music Festival 2011 (photo: Kristy Milliken) Last weekend marked the 21st anniversary of Meredith Music Festival and the start of another summer festival run. Headliner Total Lunar Eclipse did a no-show due to a cloud cover, but the cosmos aligned in other ways; Barbarion threw some flames, Grinderman bid us adieu and Big Freedia ... brought the ass (everywhere). Meredith organisers have been good to the people for over two decades and the weekend delivered. Good on yr [...]

Grinderman is no more

Grinderman is no more Grinderman , the Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds' side-project have seemingly called it a day. For their last gig, the band played to 12,000 people at Meredith Music Festival in Australia. Then, as the band finished their typically growling set, Nick Cave hollered at the audience,  "That's it for Grinderman. It's over … See you all in another 10 years when we'll be even older and uglier." Cave's next project is [...]

Meredith Music Festival 2011 line up announced.

Meredith Music Festival 2011 line up announced. Kurt Vile is probably one of my favourite artists at the moment, so this morning was pretty exciting when the rumors were confirmed that the man himself will be gracing crowds at this years Meredith Music Festival . The line up features some ass kicking local acts such as King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Oscar + Martin . Also, don't forget there is going to be a lunar eclipse whilst Grinderman are finishing their set.........coincidence? I think not, looks like Aunty Meredith has a lot to answer for. You [...]
