Who would've ever thought we'd see Geographer, Norah Jones, and Metallica share stage space at a festival. But we did, and the experience was truly unique.

In all my years as a festie, I've never been to a festival where gloves seemed like a perfectly sound idea. But San Francisco defies the logic of California (as comedian Marcus Monroe put it, "It's summer, so tell your fucking city that"), with cool days and downright cold evenings. Stereogum Over the weekend, thousands of fans flocked to this year's Outside Lands at Golden Gate Park. Overcast and chilly weather was offset by the fire from the Metallica pyrotechnics and warm vibes from festival attendees. Neil Young & Crazy Horse turned up their guitars to close out Friday, Metallica blew everyone away with their hellfire on Saturday, and Stevie Wonder dazzled with his barrage of hits to on Sunday. YEAHHH. The Hetfield "YEAHH" and "HUGGHH" count was high as cartoon band Metallica closed the main stage on Saturday with a two hour set of the band's classic material. The swells of fog and mist provided a dreamlike backdrop for Icelandic vets Sigur Ros's stunning set. Another day, another 40,000 fans and two dozen bands. Unlike Friday's EDM, rock and singer-songwriter heavy lineup, today focused more on more pop and indie rock (with the exception of Metallica , of course, who are as hard rock as any band at the festival). Early on, I bounced around from stage to stage catching a few indie buzz-bands. I'll be the first to tell you that the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco, CA is a damn good time. I went there for the first time last year and even documented my time on video . And based on this year's line up it looks I'm going back to the Bay Area this summer.
