Rock it Out! Blog: “The Worst Band Tattoos!”

Rock it Out! Blog: “The Worst Band Tattoos!” Getting a tattoo of your favorite band, their logo, or meaningful lyrics symbolizes your undying love for their music and your loyalty as a fan. But there are some music tattoos that are so awful, so cringeworthy, you wonder if the artist themselves would be willing to pay for its removal. So, on today's Rock it Out! Blog , Sami (who is ink-free) wants to know what music tattoos are the worst you've ever seen. Leave your horror stories down below and feel free to post links to the tattoos you've found to be most foul. Also [...]

OUTSIDE LANDS 2012: Looking Back + Interview w/ Caveman

OUTSIDE LANDS 2012: Looking Back + Interview w/ Caveman Safely returned to the mid-August L.A. swelter, we took to the airwaves of Virgin Mobile Live on Friday to recap last weekend’s Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in San Francisco. The beautiful cloudy chill of Golden Gate Park played gracious host to an immaculate lineup of artists from all eras and most genres past, present, and future. Check out our recap below featuring music from some of our favorite Outside Lands artists as well as an interview we did backstage on Saturday with New York band Caveman. LIVE REVIEW: Outside Lands 2012, Day 2

Who would've ever thought we'd see Geographer, Norah Jones, and Metallica share stage space at a festival. But we did, and the experience was truly unique.

Festival Review: CoS at Outside Lands 2012

Jack White Surprise Set - "Love Interruption" - Outside Lands 2012 (Official Video)
In all my years as a festie, I've never been to a festival where gloves seemed like a perfectly sound idea. But San Francisco defies the logic of California (as comedian Marcus Monroe put it, "It's summer, so tell your fucking city that"), with cool days and downright cold evenings. Still, the City by the Bay plays one hell of a host. Coming from Boston, the honest politeness of the people here was shockingly apparent from the moment I stepped onto the BART. With sunny skies above, it was a warm welcome to the weekend ahead. Of course, [...]

Stereogum Over the weekend, thousands of fans flocked to this year's Outside Lands at Golden Gate Park. Overcast and chilly weather was offset by the fire from the Metallica pyrotechnics and warm vibes from festival attendees. Neil Young & Crazy Horse turned up their guitars to close out Friday, Metallica blew everyone away with their hellfire on Saturday, and Stevie Wonder dazzled with his barrage of hits to on Sunday. Some of the other highlights included Jack White's impromptu set in the midst of the trees, [...]

Neil Young & Crazy Horse turned up their guitars to close out Friday, Metallica blew everyone away with their hellfire on Saturday, and Stevie Wonder dazzled with his barrage of hits to on Sunday. OUTSIDE LANDS DAY 2 WRAP: Metallica, Sigur Ros, The Kills, Big Boi, Michael Kiwanuka, Alabama Shakes, Portugal. The Man

OUTSIDE LANDS DAY 2 WRAP: Metallica, Sigur Ros, The Kills, Big Boi, Michael Kiwanuka, Alabama Shakes, Portugal. The Man YEAHHH. The Hetfield "YEAHH" and "HUGGHH" count was high as cartoon band Metallica closed the main stage on Saturday with a two hour set of the band's classic material. The swells of fog and mist provided a dreamlike backdrop for Icelandic vets Sigur Ros's stunning set. The Kills' Allison Mosshart gets an A+ for effort (and flailing) for trying to get the semi-disinterested crew of front-of-the-main-stage-assemb eled Metallica fans engaged in their set. Big Boi made good on a MacArthurian promise to return after "technical [...]

Outside Lands Festival: Day Two review #OutsideLands

Another day, another 40,000 fans and two dozen bands. Unlike Friday's EDM, rock and singer-songwriter heavy lineup, today focused more on more pop and indie rock (with the exception of Metallica , of course, who are as hard rock as any band at the festival). Early on, I bounced around from stage to stage catching a few indie buzz-bands. Animal Kingdom , the British three-piece known for their track "Strange Attractor" played a short but fun set with lots of interaction with the fans between songs. San Francisco's own Geographer   put on [...]

Year in Art 2011

Year in Art 2011 A true sin in this world is ignoring art. But we do. Our world works too fast. Our eyes have too big of stomachs. We digest without reflecting. We rely on our subconscience to dig deeper. This is life in the modern world. Our main priority: time. There is no greater asset. Though, here's a piece of irony: A real piece of art is a physical representation of time. So, what's our excuse? Don't worry, you don't have to answer. Just an introduction, really. Here's the real meat: A couple years ago, I tapped my closest friend Cap [...]
