This track by Metric covers the three 'G's' for you.... Gold, Gun, & Girls . That's evidentially all you need to know in life. Kids With Weapons is an 18 year old musician and DJ who says he "just enjoys making music on computers." Straight and to the point, I can dig that. Metric is a Canadian indie rock and New Wave band founded in 1998 in Toronto. The band has also at various times been based in Montreal, London, New York City and for a short time Los Angeles. Hamburg, Noon by Land of Talk As autumn approaches and the air starts to chill, instead of looking for a blanket, fire, or coat I turn instead to coffee and my fall playlist. Likely due to the cold weather my fall list includes an array of Canadian bands that seem to provide me with songs to suit the breezy outdoors. Among the classics like Broken Social Scene, Metric, and Arcade Fire also nestles another Canadian go-to: Land of Talk. Especially fond of their 2010 album Cloak and Cipher for having a bolder, stronger, and more [...]

Synthetica by Metric When I first heard Combat Baby back in 2003, I knew I’d discovered something great. Raw, charged, and, great to sing to, Old World Underground, Where are you Now? remains a classic in my repertoire. Ever since, I’ve been following Metric’s releases, enjoying the progression of their sound. With an increasing complexity in lyric, melody, and harmony, I had great expectation for their 2012 release. With their 2007 album Grow up and Blow Away holding the crown as my favourite thus far, I was [...]

Canandian indie-rock outfit Stars have already released two tracks from their upcoming sixth studio album The North : the lush and upbeat "Theory of Relativity" and the dance-pop jam "Hold On When You Get Love And Let Go When You Give It" . For song #3, the band offers something less shimmery with "Backlines", a more in-your-face pop-rock number with crunchy guitars, a ferocious bassline, and vocals from Amy Millan like a peppier Pat Benatar. Stream it now at NPR First Listen . The North [...]

As previously reported , Canandian indie-rock outfit Stars will return with their sixth studio album, The North , on September 4th via ATO. "Hold On When You Get Love And Let Go When You Give It" is the incredibly long-winded title of the second single. But despite all those syllables, the track's a simple offering of dance-pop bliss, perpetuated by a low-buzzing guitar hook and the unceasing downpour of rhythmic drumming. Stream it below. VELOCIRAPTOR appear as regular dudes and gals. They enjoy eating burgers, playing video games and reading comic books. But when something's up, they're ready to save the world. This is all evident in their clip for their brand new single 'Riot.' It starts off similar to that scene in Detroit Rock City where Jam 's religious mum accidentally plays a KISS record. As the track rolls in, the band venture out in order to save Cynthia . Smoking out of car windows, riding bicycles in [...]
So what if Metric 's "Youth Without Youth," the first single off their new album "Synthetica" (out today via MMI and Mom + Pop), sounds a bit like Muse. The band's "Fantasies" (2009) had a glimmer of glam-pop, and they've run with it by turning up the slink through Emily Haines' vocals on the new record. Since the frontwoman's idea of "synthetica" first derived from a "Blade Runner" reference, Justin Broadbent's sinuously seductive take on the song seems more than appropriate. ||| Stream: "Speed the Collapse" and "Youth Without Youth" (previously [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Music , New Releases Justin Broadbent A decade ago, Ossington Avenue in Toronto's west-end was a crumbling street of dodgy garages and boarded-up business, sketchy strip clubs and bullet-ridden Vietnamese karaoke joints. In the years since it's resurrected itself into a bustling enclave of independently owned hipster bars, foodie restaurants and art galleries. This has caused the too-cool kids to complain about its popularity, despite the absence of corporate [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Music , New Releases Getty | AFP "Wanderlust," the penultimate song on Metric 's long-awaited new album Synthetica , boasts an unexpected back-up vocal that sounds like the opposite of the album title. It's authentic, apocalyptic and instantly recognizable despite it's lack of advance billing. Oh hello, Lou Reed . "I thought it'd be nice for people to discover it," Emily Haines [...]

The new single from Metric is a sexy beast, Emily Haines cooing over an alpine guitar line and insistent beats. Makes you want to hear more of the quartet's fifth album, "Synthetica," doesn't it? Well, that's what Metric is counting on. They've turned it into a little game — Synthetica Hide and Seek — in which the faithful can engage in an online scavenger hunt to unlock an early stream of the record. Or you can just play "Speed the Collapse" and "Youth Without Youth" on repeat until June 12, when the new album is out. [...]
With Synthetica less than three weeks away from release, Metric has been doing their best to make the time pass by as quick as possible. We've already heard the anthemic first single “ Youth Without Youth ,” and now we've got a second track to take in. "Speed The Collapse" is moody, churning number more in-line with the Metric we've come to know and love, white-washed in a grungy haze of synthesizers and swirling guitar. In short, it's great, and you can hear it below. Synthetica is out on June 12 via Metric Music International / [...]
It's about time I got around to this one. I will admit, I wasn't exactly excited about a new Metric single, or the prospect of new album, even though I practically wore my digital copy of Fantasies down to it's 1s and 0s. I really, really loved that album a lot, and it became one of those situations where you can't possibly imagine the band getting any better, any tighter than they already are. So now here we are, and here I am with "Youth Without [...]

It's one of those bands that you wish got more love from the music world. Metric is a band that gets adored by bloggers but they can't seem to catch a super big break. Which is a shame because they've got all the components: catchy tunes, good instrumentation and a hot singer in Emily Haines. Then again they are from Canada so.... Anyways, down below you can stream their new single, "Youth Without Youth," from their forthcoming album Synthetica . The album will be released on June 12th.

Say what you will about Metric , but I've always had a certain nostalgia attached to their music. I can remember exactly where I was when I first heard "Combat Baby," and how Live It Out shaped and punctuated my final years of high school. I owe a lot to the band for not only laying the foundation for my future tastes in music, but also my career: I had a chance meeting with an editor of a local music magazine at a Metric show in 2005- several years later I would go on to become an editor [...]
