Since everyone is doing their " Best of " list. So here is my list for Canadian albums that came out in 2012. Starting from #50 to #41. I had to say this year was pretty hard finding what were *in my opinion* the best albums to come out in Canada. As I will say this, just be happy you made it on the list. If there were some missing ones I will probably put them on honorable mentions. For the Top 12 Canadian albums, it will be broadcast on my radio show [...]

We're approaching year 15 of Metric, and in that time Emily Haines and company have matured from Canadian soft-rockers with a taste for synthesizers to stadium-calibre headliners. 20092s Fantasies provided the acme of their rise, with a non-stop barrage of radio-ready jams that were capped off by the too-apt "Stadium Love." And now we have Synthetica , the first taste of 'made it' Metric. The singles here ("Youth Without Youth" and "Speed the Collapse") follow the model laid out on Fantasies : big, bombastic pop tracks mastered for speaker stacks. But something seems a bit off elsewhere on [...]
by Tiana Feng Metric 's video for Breathing Underwater finally works in Canada. Hah. Watch them rocking out on some giant stages.

Metric / Stage AE / 09.18.2012 / Doors 7:00 / $30 Words by Brendan "They were right when they said we should never meet our heroes" Emily Haines opines this line during "Breathing Underwater" on Metric 's newest LP, Synthetica . I'm inclined to disagree. Who wouldn't want to meet their heroes? In particular, who wouldn't want to meet Metric ? Well, we can't promise you that opportunity. What we can do is promise you the [...]
by teepoo Metric - Youth Without Youth from Metric on Vimeo . Check out Metric's video for Young Without Youth off their new album Synthetica . I wasn't a big fan of the last album Fantasies but Synthetica trumps that by far.

What is the real? What is fake? What happens now? These are the questions that Metric poses to us with the release of their fifth album, Synthetica . If Metric has a distinctive sound, it is that of a band that can combine catchy solid pop rock sound with themes of darkness and uncertainty. “I’m just as fucked up as they say, I can’t fake the daytime. Found an entrance to escape into the dark”. These are the opening lines of Artificial Nocturne and, consequently, the opening lines of Synthetica [...]

Metric went big last time around. Fantasies , the band’s fourth album, was “all about pushing [ Metric ] out into the world”, in the words of lead singer Emily Haines , and boy did it succeed in that respect: the glossy, unashamedly poppy album garnered commercial success that matched its critical acclaim, despite not being released on a label, and the band even picked up a couple of Juno awards and some spots on a few movie soundtracks off the back of it. Metric show no [...]

‘I’m just as fucked up as they say,’ croons Emily Haines , the star behind Canadian powerhouse METRIC . This is the opening line to their song ‘Artifical Nocturne’ track one on their new album, Synthetica : a glorious piece of electro-pop gorgeousness. Here we are, staring down the barrel of the gun at this follow-up to the impressive 2009 release, Fantasies . That album had be dancing around on school buses; senior students don’t even give a fuck. After a witch-hunt/ huge online game of hide-and-seek for a [...]

Metric is an odd case. A holdover from the halcyon days of early-2000s post-punk revival bands, these Canadians never quite fit that label, despite scooping up some of the same fans and touring with bands like Bloc Party. Metric was always strictly a synth-infused indie-pop band — with the emphasis squarely on "pop" — and while their initial release, 20032s Old World Underground, Where Are You Now , went gold in their homeland and garnered them some critical praise over here, they never really broke any boundaries or made much of an impact. On [...]

Here is this week's music singles chart for the week ending May 27 - June 2. This week's #1 single goes to Dalarna, Sweden's The Tallest Man On Earth with his song "19043. Something about that song, reminds me of that Americana folk tune similar to Bob Dylan. The single is taken from There's No Leaving Now which drops on June 12, 2012 in North America. There are three new debuts from Yeasayer and Ottawa's Three Little Birds. Check it out! [...]

Canada's Metric will soon be releasing their fifth studio album, Synthetica , June 12th, 2012 on Mom + Pop Records. The album’s first single, "Youth Without Youth," is a reaction to how singer Emily Haines perceives the world of today as "the decay of the social state, through the eyes of a deprived youth." LISTEN Metric :: Youth Without Youth 2012 Enjoy one of my favorite remixes of Metric's song Help I'm Alive released by The Twelves [...]
