The TLA will be hosting New Brunswick emo-punks Thursday tonight, alongside Make Do and Mend, Screaming Females, Aficionado and the local experimental/post-hardcore outfit MeWithoutYou . Back in late November, Thursday announced that they would be going on an indefinite hiatus via their website, which means tonight maybe one of the last times you'll get to see the Jersey band in Philly for a while. mewithoutYou is co-headlining the show tonight, wrapping up their tenth year as a group. The Upper Darby-based band has been hard at work in the studio over the past year working on their as of [...]
Key Studio Video Session #5 - Me Without You from WXPN FM on Vimeo . Last week mewithoutYou abandoned plans to release the Key Sessions they had promised featuring the debut of 3 new songs...A week later here we are with at least something to show for those promises. Apparently the band didn't think the quality of the recordings/performances were up to their standards enough to release them, so instead what we've got is a 7 minute interview, sequencing back and forth between an interview with the band [...]

Photo by Eric Ashleigh For this month's Key Studio Video Session, we profiled mewithoutYou , the Upper Darby-bred experimental five-piece that bridges the divide between raw, introspective punk rock and lush, Neutral Milk Hotel-esque indie symphonies. This year, they celebrated ten years as a band, and in the spring they plan to release their as-yet untitled fifth album, recorded over the summer with Daniel Smith of Danielson - it's their first since 20092s It's All Crazy! It's All False! It's All A Dream! It's Allright . In our session, the bandmates reflect [...]

So, last night mewithoutYou opened up for Brand New at the House Of Blues. My entire squad was pretty dead set on stating that the Philly natives were the worst band they'd ever heard. I thought they sounded half decent at times, at other times could have probably been swayed into agreement with the negativity. The spoken word thing doesn't always work. However, there was a track about half way thru their performance that was undeniably worth checking out. I found the set list and discovered "Messes Of Men". If they have more songs like this, someone please [...]
Listen to mewithoutYou cover 'In Blood,' Murder By Death cover 'Lounge Act,' and the Album Leaf cover 'On a Plain' off a new Nirvana tribute album.

Webster defines an Aficionado as a person who likes, knows about, and appreciates a usually fervently pursued interest or activity; a devotee. This month ESBMusic suggests all you music aficionados become a fan of November's Artist of the Month Aficionado . Aficionado is a talented 7 piece band, hailing from Albany, NY with roots in punk music but have developed a unique style that they are happy to call their own. The band mixes organ, flute, and occasional horn arrangements into it's unorthodox blend of post-punk. Upon their inception in 2004, Aficionado began touring [...]

My day is complete anytime I get to throw up a post on mewithoutYou . They've taken Nirvana's grungy anthem "In Bloom" and turned it on it's head with plucked guitar, organic drums, and a wall of dissonance all layered with Aaron Weiss's crookedly gorgeous voice. Absolutely astonishing. Thanks to Hear No Evil on the tip. If you're not following that blog, your messing up. MP3 // IN BLOOM

Tweet It'd be like trying to reimagine 'Screamadelica' or record a tribute to 'The Stone Roses'. An impossible task but that didn't stop Reimagine Music from gathering acts of the calibre of the Album Leaf, Murder By Death and Maps & Atlasas to come forth and multiply on a one of a kind. The result is called 'Come As You Are' and while you can't argue with its timing, given that 'Nevermind' is officially 20 years old, it will probably please and [...]

Thursday have announced the lineup for their annual holiday show at Starland Ballroom.
Earlier this spring mewithoutYou did an acoustic performance of three tracks for Sleepover Shows . They just threw em up on their blog (which you should be following).

I caught a bit of Alkaline Trio on Sunday 8/7/11 when they opened for Blink 182 on the Honda Civic Tour in Jones Beach.
mewithoutYou are currently admidst the creation of their new album. At a recent show in Toronto, they played a new song that will presumably be on that record. The song's called "The Fiji Mermaid" and definitely sounds like a proper follow-up to It's crazy!.... . Hopefully this is the first of many more posts to come on these guys. Can't wait!
Check out the details on this year's second all-star tributes to both Buddy Holly and Nirvana.

mewithoutYou have been picked to open for Further Seems Forever at their reunion shows at Theatre of Living Arts on April 28th and Paradise Rock Club on April 29th.
:: Hockey - the sport, not the band - compelled John Darnielle to choose Merge for his latest Mountain Goats record. :: One dude has taken it upon himself to remind the world that Ben Weasel was always a stinker . :: I remember talking about the questionable legality of siphoning used vegetable oil out of receptacles with Aaron Weiss back when mewithoutYou was one of the few bands that used the stuff to power their van. Well, it looks like Off! found out how questionable the [...]
The Megaphonic Thrift - Candy Sin Excited to present the 6-minute noise opus "Candy Sin" by The Megaphonic Thrift of Norway, which presents itself within the likes of Trail of Dead, Refused and mewithoutyou. With minutes trailing into two or three or four of immense guitar plucking followed by ruckus drum beating and bass wailing, Thrift [...]

This is the first Old and Jaded, but let's not make a big thing about. So there will be no paragraphs-long explanation about what this will consist of week in and week out. It's freeform. Or as freeform as a weekly column on a snarky, indie music website can be. You know, when described as such, Buzzgrinder could easily be mistaken for Pitchfork. I guess the amount of elitism (read: none) is what separates the two and makes the ol' BG a website I've been visiting for damn near seven years and Pitchfork a website I can't tolerate [...]
At lunch today I asked a good friend to make a mix for the blog. I thought it would be realy nice to start having friends submitting music that inspires and moves them. Some of these songs are old favorites and some are brand new. I hope you enjoy it! .E HERE COME THE CAMELS By Vin Santiago 1: heart of the continent - John K Samson 2: Fewer broken pieces - David Bazan 3: people are so fickle - Kevin Devine 4: the [...]
This post will be very concise and to the point: The other day I realized that nearly all metalcore/screamo/post-hardcor e videos take place in a grassy field, and I will use this space to list several examples. I don't know if you have ever tried to make a Wikipedia entry, but it's really hard because some [...]
