Back before MGMT ever had MGMT they were just some college hipsters at Wesleyan. This was before hipsters became a negative term, before "Kids" was a classic indie song, and before the "change" of Obama. "This Must Be The Place," is by far one of my favorite Talking Heads song. During a summer between my college years, I worked at an Irish pub with two Irish female immigrants, one of which was Emma. She was small, rambunctious and a hell of a mean drunk at times. Whenever she was acting shitty,... Read more at www.SFCritic.com

Qualche sorpresa. Un gruppo inglese (i Libertines ) è stato scalzato dal podio da [...]
Oracular Spectacular at 100 and Is This It at number one? someone's gonna be in trouble when they realise the NME has run its Top 100 albums of the decade back-to-front.

Filed under: News , New Music Art-punk pranksters Les Savy Fav have premiered their first new material since 2008's digital-only live album 'After the Balls Drop' on kids' TV show 'Yo Gabba Gabba.' A one-minute, 15-second celebration of the joy of having new footwear, the song 'Shoes' provides the soundtrack to a short animation on the hyperactive Nickelodeon show. You can watch it after the jump. Featuring the lyrics, "Shiny and clean, they're my favourite colour green, my new pair of shoes," the song is something [...]

amp live - "gary is a robot (feat. micro jaxson & trackademicks)" (download) Great new single from Zion I 's Amp Live . Amp Live has been getting quite a bit of attention as of late for his Rainydayz Remixes EP (where he used all Radiohead source material from In Rainbows for the beats and got local favorites Del Tha Funkee Homosapien and Too Short to rap over them), as well as a recent remix for Anticon's WHY? [...]
Beck's Record Club is nothing new at this point. Previous guests have included MGMT, Devendra Banhart, Nigel Goodrich and many others. For the club's latest effort, Beck brings together Wilco and Feist to cover Skip Spence's album, Oar . Check out the video of "Little Hands" below. Record Club: Skip Spence "Little Hands" from Beck Hansen on Vimeo .
The very idea of Beck 's Record Club , where he gathers famous guests and plows through a classic album in a single day, makes us swell with joy. So much so that we're satisfied with the other efforts . But wait, Pitchfork is telling us of another collaboration? And this one involves Wilco, Feist, Jamie Lidell, AND '60s icon Skip Spence? OK, now we'd like some more sonic deliciousness. Please. The aforementioned artists have joined forces for a remake of Spence, formerly of the Moby Grape/Jefferson Airplane, [...]

Dr. Fox's Old Timey String Band - Kids [MGMT]

The best hip-hop right now is coming from the unsigned and underground. No question. That's right 50 cent, your album sucks. Upon my return from some epic surfing in Tofino I came across these tracks to add to my November playlist. Chiddy Bang , who have been mentioned before on BTA, have recently released their mixtape The Swelly Express. Available in it's entirety on their myspace . I think one of the guys left the group...I'm not really sure. Let's just say he did and you can correct me. Xaphoon Jones kills it with [...]
"Kids" is the third single from MGMT's album Oracular Spectacular . It was released as a single on October 13, 2008. Rolling Stone's Kevin O'Donnell described the song as "a noisy New Order-style synth jam". The intro with kids screaming are actually altered sounds of adults. YATM posted a Ben Lee cover of "Kids" via Shoot The Player (an Aussie Take Away Show out of Sydney) back in May of this year. ( M3 ) as well as the Kooks in an acoustic [...]

This isn't new, but I just heard it so I figured I would share. It's British band The Kooks taking on MGMT's "Kids". The cool thing about this to me is the fact that it's acoustic. It's always fun to hear a great electro hit covered acoustically because you see how a well written song transcends genres and instrument choices. Thanks to IASWCM . Jay-Z collaborates with many different high-profile musicians, such as U2 , Kanye & Rihanna , Drake , Alicia Keys (x2!) , and Regina Spektor (maybe?) . However, as it turns out, one act did turn down Hova's request. In a recent interview with Gotham Magazine (via MSNBC ), the rapper revealed that he had reached out to fellow Brooklynites MGMT in hopes of collaborating on a track for the recently released The Blueprint 3 . But as Jay-Z explained, despite rumors to the contrary , [...]

How important is a producer to an artist? Well, the Michael Jackson sound we all love wouldn't really exist without Quincy Jones. The psychedelic pop genius of Oracle Spectacular wouldn't be nearly as adventurous without the vision and direction of producer Dave Fridmann. Would there even be Snoop Dogg without Dr. Dre? M.I.A. without Diplo? I mean the list goes on and on. Don't get me wrong making music is a collaborative effort, one which like any successful relationship requires compromise and love so it's silly to say that one person is solely responsible for anything. However, I believe [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive Last April, ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) holed up in Hawaii with their longtime friend and cohort, Jack Johnson , at his north shore studio, Mango Tree. With Johnson in the producer's seat, the band was able to complete work on their new album, which will drop in February. "We had a great month experimenting and coming up with sounds, writing lyrics and songs with Jack," bassist Steve Adams tells Spinner. "It was a real sweet [...]
Shoot The Player is run by a Sydney duo who shoot videos of (mostly) local Aussie acts performing in various areas around the city. Artists include Dead Letter Chorus, An Horse, Sarah Blasko, Kaki King, Port O'Brien, Vivian Girls, Andrew Bird, Amanda Palmer and more. It's a fantastic site, and the films they make are high quality snapshots of artists performing in a casual setting, giving them a really personal feel. The above Shoot The Player video is Ben Lee performing his version of MGMT's 'Kids' in Rushcutter's Bay Park, Sydney. Don't expect to hear anything [...]
I've been listening to a lot of happy music this month. That's a trend I don't want to end just yet, and it's a trend that Wolf Gang perpetuates with excellent single "The King And All Of His Men." Think the glitzy pop of The Killers without the self-seriousness, or MGMT minus the heavy beats (maybe even a little bit of Empire of the Sun?), "King And All Of His Men" rocks out with pounding piano chords, swirling synths, and epic "oohs." The sound is unique, catchy, and just BIG. This is full, expansive, music, building [...]

I finally got the chance to see Baby Monster live last week when they were over from the States at the ever decent Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, as they did a few shows before the single drops on Monday (09/11) and they have a fucking great live sound. They only played a handful of tracks, but there was enough there for me to be damn excited for when they finally get and EP or album out. They apparently have nine songs pretty much finished so that shouldn't be too long hopefully. The risk that they may [...]

It's great to see music festivals popping up all over the country, and Treasure Island in San Francisco is filled with promise. And it has, arguably, the best view of any festival I've ever been to! With its indie minded approach Treasure Island is the closest you'll get to left of the dial when it comes to a music event of this size. Day One: Dance, Dance, Dance Day one (of two) was definitely the more colorful of the now three year old music festival. Think [...]
Ho sempre amato i mashup (ben fatti, s'intende). Figuratevi come posso aver accolto questo fantastico mix realizzato dal vivo dai sempre validi Weezer!
