Today marks the launch of UMF TV , which will be a reoccurring mini-documentary style video series focusing on artists who play at Ultra Music Festival events. The first episode features the one and only Avicii as he takes over some of Miami's most impressive decks. The video captures the moment he met Madonna, when he was joined on stage by Afrojack and Skrillex, and also captures Tim's account on how important this moment was. The video thankfully does not include "Levels" (10 minutes at the festival was more than enough) but it does give [...]
Thomas Gold takes us down memory lane with his official recap of Miami Music Week. Things got underway to a packed crowd at Miami’s newest hotspot, Amnesia, and continued at Swedish House Mafia’s Masquerade Motel party the following day. The video also features stops at Mansion 360 (check our recap here ) and his own party at Mynt Lounge. It's remarkable to see how far he's come in a year's time. Make sure to watch to the end where we get a preview of "The Beginning," one of the tracks set for release on Gold's Axtone compilation [...]
Turn the clock back a bit, and recall the peaceful sun as it battered Ocean Drive from the waterfront to the most distant uptown haunts. If you're like us, you were at Robbie Rivera's Juicy Beach , taking part in the flagship Thursday party of Miami Music Week. This video recap is chock-full of the event's highlights — there's probably nowhere else in the world you'd have seen Tommy Trash, Afrojack, and R3hab all on the decks at the same time (and in front of a big Dancing Astronaut banner, no less). Video: Marco Curiel, Zack [...]
Spin Artist Showcase at the National Hotel had enough big names to please even the most casual of fans. Featured on its bill was Swanky Tunes, Hard Rock Sofa, Bass Kleph, Moguai, Rebecca & Fiona, and Arty with special guest appearances by Alesso, Cazzette, Seb Ingrosso, Avicii and Afrojack. It was Arty however, that stole the show. Showcasing that perfect blend of trance and big room, best exemplified by his mash-up of 'Rebound' and 'Calling'. The young Russian wasn't without his friends either, rolling with a large posse of a dozen dancers and a 6 foot 4 dutchman. [...]

We've already told you about Hardwell's huge Ultra Music Festival set , but his official Miami aftermovie makes us realize that we simply did not do the event justice. In addition to some awesome shots from the set itself, there's also interview footage, and coverage from his Revealed Recordings party at SET nightclub. The video also features Hardwell's latest release, " Kontiki ," and previews the new track "Raid" from Dyro & Rene Kuppens, due out April 30th on (you guessed it) Revealed.
You might call us mainstream or tell us that we have no idea what were talking about, but David Guetta's skills as a DJ and producer — not to mention his happy-go-lucky demeanor — still makes him one of the best acts in the business. This video recap from his F*** Me I'm Famous party at LIV nightclub during Miami Music Week, however, proves that Guetta and his wife Kathy know how to throw an awesome party. Between the girls dancing in the giant martini glasses, the endless array of glow sticks and light-up people, the appearances by Afrojack and Nicky [...]
A few weeks have passed since Miami Music Week, but it's never too late to recap a legendary night like Thomas Gold's and Dirty South's at Mansion. "Alive" was the spark of an amazing dynamic between the two extremely popular producers, and with Kate Elsworth's blissful vocals from Thomas Gold and Dirty South's latest "Eyes Wide Open" is nothing short of euphoric. The fully renovated Mansion 360 was the perfect stage for the German and Aussie to demonstrate their DJing capabilities, which kept the entire club raging with energy all night long. Click play and see for yourself! Video: [...]
Dancing Astronaut favorite Arty had quite a busy week in Miami for Winter Music Conference, and our very own Tagir Gibadullin was there to capture it all. In the recap below, see what happened when Arty played such gigs as Roger Sanchez's Stealth , Group Therapy at the Bayfront Park Ampitheater, and the DA stage at No Sugar Added . Arty had quite the week in Miami — not very unlike Avicii last year — and we're more excited than ever to see what he comes up with next. [...]
Miami Music Week 2012 has come and gone, but there's no need to be sad. You can relive all the magic from the No Sugar Added festival by watching our quick video recap, which features some of our favorite moments from the two-day event. The concept was admittedly simple: beautiful people coming together to celebrate beautiful electronic dance music. The result was beautiful memories. This was the first time we've had our own stage at a festival, and we're thrilled that we were able to give some of our favorite artists the opportunity to do what they do [...]
If there's any one trend we've noticed from Miami Music Week, it's that avid EDM enthusiasts are embracing a harder sound than in the past. Luckily for us there was no shortage of artists who fit that bill — and Hardwell's set at Ultra was just right. Unfortunately we didn't get to see Zedd who owned the Main Stage before Hardwell took the stage at 3:20PM, but as soon as we arrived the entire space sprung to life. Opening with " Spaceman ," the crowd quickly fell into the heavy [...]
One of the most profoundly bad ass sets I have ever seen was delivered this past weekend by none other than Pendulum's angrier alter ego, Knife Party. I had missed them when they came through Webster Hall in NYC a few months ago and I made certain that I did not make the same mistake twice. From the moment they were introduced and an unidentifiable track blasted through the main stage's stacks the intensity did not let up. Their hard hitting, dark electronic style was intoxicating. The entire set was a massive amalgamation of electro, dubstep and progressive with countless [...]

Sander Van Doorn did not waste any time at the ASOT 550 stage, and started playing the best set that I heard all week as soon as Cosmic Gate was done. The track list was fantastic and the mixing was extraordinary. Sander Van Doorn mixed current favorites with unreleased singles and lesser-known tracks at an incredibly fast pace: he played over twenty tracks in one hour. His set was characterized by a unique contrast of progressive house and trance melodies with thick and bass heavy electro-house drops. I had been slightly disappointed by the overall quality of sets at Ultra, [...]

Cazzette is an interesting duo for me to talk about. Ever since being taken under the wing of Ash Pournouri — the genius behind Avicii's meteoric rise to fame — and releasing their " dubby steppy" bootleg of "Save The World" last summer, they've seen an incredibly fast ascent in the EDM world. I've literally followed Alex and Sebastian from from the release of that first track, to touring with Avicii , to playing at Pier 94 on New Years Eve, to — if you can believe it — the Ultra Music Festival Main Stage. That's quite [...]

The last time I saw Fedde Le Grand live, I was at Sensation White in Spain and it was probably one of the best nights of my life. Between the production, the venue, and the great DJ talent (Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano joined Fedde along with Sharam and Wally Lopez), it all came together in a glorious arena setting. Well, Ultra's Main Stage array of LED screens, lights, and speakers brought me back to Barcelona to relive that amazing night once again, but with the additional perk of being in downtown Miami in the middle [...]
Steve Aoki is one of the more polarizing figures in dance music today. The purists hate him - to them he represents everything that is wrong in the scene. The kids love him - they show up in droves, ready to be pummeled in the face with cake and maced with champagne. To me, Steve Aoki is electronic punk music: it's The Warped Tour with synthesizers, it's EDM for the younger generation. Mosh pits and crowd surfing rarely, if ever, accompany a DJ set but they are guaranteed during one of Steve's. His productions are simple, catchy, and highly contagious [...]

It's hard to believe that Ultra Music Festival wrapped up just under 48 hours ago, but we've been bringing you coverage from the ground in Miami all throughout the weekend. We know it can be hard to keep up with the fast pace of EDM news these days — not to mention that you're probably a few days behind if you were actually lucky enough to be in Miami yourself. We went to some awesome parties like Juicy Beach and No Sugar Added in addition to that little festival called "Ultra," and have been churning out [...]

Afrojack started off his headlining Ultra set by telling the crowd with a raspy voice that he "partied too hard" this week, and we'll admit he sounded kind of tired. As soon as he picked up the magnum of Grey Goose — "my cocaine" — that was posted up right in front of the CDJs, he sprung to life, admitted he was "nervous," and said he'd be premiering ten new tracks. When the crowd responded with a passionate roar, he declared he wasn't nervous anymore and used his "Bangduck" intro as a backdrop. From there, it was full [...]

Writing about Avicii as a DJ is impossible without also writing about Avicii as a producer. This isn't the case for every EDM artist - Kaskade, for example, spins with a considerably harder sound than his own productions might indicate, and creates bootlegs galore. For Avicii, however, a DJ gig isn't an opportunity to showcase his mixing skills, but rather a chance to see a crowd react to his hard work in the studio. We don't think it's unfair to say that Avicii the DJ relies a little too much on Avicii the producer - playing his own [...]

We're no stranger to Kaskade's music, but his set at this year's Ultra Music Festival was one that went uncharacteristically hard for the man who brought us Fire & Ice late last year. Rather than playing all of his own tracks in their original form, he paired well-known acapellas from some of his most well-known offerings with some of the hottest songs of the moment. What resulted was a high energy set that went over quite well with the crowd, and as Kaskade put it himself on Twitter , it was "awesome, amazing, [...]
