The ever-so-lovely Bjork has spoken for the merger of the beautiful and logical. In an interview with the Guardian, the Icelandic damsel said: "Well, seems like science and art were pretty much the same thing for thousands of years until the industrial revolution and the enlightenment separated them. I feel the 21st century is going to be the one where not only they can unite again but they have to ..." More... "I have been listening to Oval, James Blake, Joanna Newsom, Dirty Projectors, Micachu, Antony and of [...]

After hearing friends going to see Radiohead at the Roseland Ballroom that fits 3,500 people, I have to admit I'm a bit jealous. Sure we got to see Radiohead on TV twice this week, somewhat of an anomaly because those guys shy away from the telly as much as possible. It would be the equivalent of us people in Denver seeing them in the Fillmore. Wow. On a baseball note, two things that bothered me are the Red Sox and their gargantuan payroll. $$ doesn't equate to championships in the end and the NL [...]

Frank Yang I wasn't even intending to be at this show. The plan had been to catch The Joy Formidable at one of their many SxSW shows and thus free up this evening for something else or nothing else. A good plan, on paper, but one scuppered by the fact that the Welsh trio, who released their debut album The Big Roar Stateside on the eve of the festival, would turn out to be one of the buzz bands of the fest and any of the showcases I [...]

Frank Yang The Friday night of Canadian Musicfest saw the only bit of club-hopping that I'd be engaging in over the weekend, but even that was just across a couple of blocks in Parkdale, and I took a streetcar. No, not so much with the spirit of the club-level festival. Stop one was the Drake Underground for Olenka & The Autumn Lovers . I'd seen them just a few weeks prior , but while that show had been as a stripped-down four-piece, advance billing promised a full lineup for this [...]

Here's a list of the 7 artists I'm mostly looking forward to see at SXSW 2011. You definitely should have heard of these artists by now. If not, click around below and turn up your speakers! OWEN PALLETT: Formerly, the artist known as Final Fantasy is surnamed Pallett. Apparently #FF was taken. Shucks, so wow-much more nude name now. What do you get when you mix queer theory as applied in multi-layered solo performances w/ stringed instruments [...]

Seamus Murphy Throughout her career, Polly Jean Harvey has managed the difficult feat of being artistically chameleon-like from one to the next, each often stylistically miles removed from that which came before it, while remaining consistently interesting and by and large excellent throughout. Her last effort, 20072s fragile piano-led White Chalk , certainly didn't hint at what Let England Shake - out next week - has to offer. Just posted to stream in its entirety at NPR , it's a strange [...]

When we first heard Micachu & The Shapes , we had a pretty good idea that there was something really unique going on here. Then we read up on the group, led by frontwoman Mica Levi, and were even more impressed. You see, the reason you hear so many unusual sounds on their 2009 album Jewellery (listen to Golden Phone right here ) is because Levi makes many of the instruments the group uses basically from scratch. And I'm not just talking about building instruments that already exist, I'm talking about creating instruments [...]

A new track from avant punkers Micachu & The Shapes showed up online last week. The song is from a live album of "classical crunk" recorded in collaboration with the London Sinfonietta . Listen. Downloadable: Everything (mp3) Chopped & Screwed is set to be released on March 21st via Rough Trade . It looks something like this: You can watch Micachu discuss her homemade instruments and song writing (as seen on the MAKE blog [...]
For her follow-up to Jewellery Mica Levi has got back together with The Shapes and created a record entitled Chopped and Screwed . Self-described as "classical crunk" the trio collaborated with London Sinfonietta - one of the world's leading contemporary orchestras no less - to create this concept album. The concept behind the album was inspired by the popular "chopping and screwing" technique in American hip-hop which was developed in Houston in the 1990s. The technique involves halving tempo, skipping beats and affecting portions of the original music. The approach was [...]

Rough Trade's Micachu and the Shapes return, clad with their usual inventive edge which although offputting to unwilling listeners, couldn't be more infectious than on ' Happiness '. The follow up to ' Jewellery ' looks all the more thrilling.
![Connan Mockasin - Please Turn Me Into The Snat [CD] (2010)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2973467_lg.jpg)

album art by purpleplaid Hello! Here is my first mixtape for our stellar mixtape week here at TSURURADIO! The first mix...? Yup that's right, I've made three mixtapes each with their own distinct vibe. It's been ages since I've made a proper mixtape (well other than just the throwing of random songs onto a CD so I'll have driving music). I was going through all the stuff I wanted to put in and my list was enormous. Even after I did some cutting I was still left with a chunk of songs that just would [...]
