Listen to Tokyo Police Club's covers of Jimmy Eat World, The Strokes, Kelly Clarkson and Queens of the Stone Age from their continuing daily cover series.
What a week of surprises. An earthquake rattled NYC . Steve Jobs terminated himself . And a hurricane's coming out of nowhere to slap the NE somethin' fierce. So why not some equally unexpected collaborations, covers, and other tunes? Damn right. Enjoy thoroughly. Amanhã será a ver [...]
Apparently the dude from Passion Pit (Michael Angelakos) and Diplo 'wrote some mp3s' 2gether. Not sure if I really care because Passion Pit is too 'entry lev bleep bloop wave' 4 me, and I am not even sure how much I like Diplo's music. I guess he is just one of those DJs with a strong/chill DJ brand but then when u take a step back ur like 'I guess he wrote that Paper Planes song and that 1 Major Lazer song but whatever.' Anyways, it seems like they 'tried to get effed up' by [...]
When I got my first listen to The Pass , a dance-pop act from Louisville that should be on the lips of indie fans and several variations of hipsters very soon, the first response that came out was Passion Pit . Yeah, there's the obvious sound resemblance (outside of Michael Angelakos's super-high falsettos), but the reason the name jumped out, more or less, was the impossibly enriching single "Vultures." I'm not calling it "Sleepyhead", the Passion Pit single that essentially began their commercial success, but I wouldn't be surprised if "Vultures" did the same thing. [...]
Re-released with three bonus tracks, this album remains excellent. Bonus track - Manners - Music - Arts - Passion Pit

Sleepyhead is like 20 years old in blogs years and I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to sit through another remix until I ran in my latest muse, Sleepyhead (The Knocks Remix) . Most of you know the Passion Pit story by now but for those who don't here's a cliff notes version. This song along with the entire Chunk of Change EP from which it's from was written for the lead singers (Michael Angelakos') girlfriend. The EP ended up catching fire at Emerson and the rest is history. The power of love? You [...]

Swedish indie-pop group Miike Snow (no, that's not a typo) just released the music video for their hit single "Black and Blue." Miike Snow's sound has been described by professional music critics as "A-ha meets Animal Collective." I personally like to think that their sound is more of an offshoot of Passion Pit's. The band's lead singer/songwriter Andrew Wyatt even sounds a bit like Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos. The guys released their self-titled debut album back in May of 2009, and on it was "Black and Blue" and " Animal ," a song that went on [...]

Wednesday's Levi's Ones To Watch show was, for me, an evening of counfounded expectations. I didn't like what what I thought I might, and I really liked what I expected not to. More of that later though. I had no expectations whatsoever regarding the first band of the night, Apples , because I didn't know they existed. Now I can report that they are a jaunty little outfit full of '09-issue plaid shirts, shaggy side partings and post-Vampire Weekend rhythms. Fewer African influences here though - if anything, you'd [...]

Bonnaroo Day 1: Thursday, June 11... Bonnaroo , or the Roo as some like to call it (although Colin Meloy will tell you that anytime anybody calls it that, a kitten dies), is unreal if you have never been to a camping music festival . The festival is just as much about what happens off the stage as what happens on it. In fact, sometimes what happens out in the crowd or the campgrounds is even more interesting than the music you hear on stage. [...]

Passion Pit 's "The Reeling" is pretty much everywhere right now. It's a great track and the first single from their debut, Manners , released just a few days ago. It follows up from their EP release, Chunk of Change . Manners has received stellar reviews, which is good, since they're living up to their hype. Passion Pit "The Reeling'," despite its introspective lyrics, " Look at me, oh look at me/Is this the way I've always been…/I can feel the [...]
![Boston's Passion Pit Releases Debut Album Manners [VIDEO]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1741420_lg.jpg)
It was February 2007. Michael Angelakos, a student and singer/songwriter at Emerson College, was looking for that special gift to give to his then girlfriend for Valentine's Day. What he came up with were six songs recorded under the alias Passion Pit . The songs failed to woo his lover, but spread like wildfire at Emerson and caught the collective interest of the student body. It was then that Angelakos realized he had something big on his hands. The six songs morphed into an EP named "Chunk of Change" and was officially released in late September 2008. [...]

ALBUM REVIEW: Passion Pit - Manners words: Matt McDonald Press the play button, and marvel as ELO, The Bee Gees and all of your other shameless pop wet dreams rear their beards at the same time, miraculously sounding both credible and cool. There's handclaps, children's choirs and exclusively falsetto vocals. It isn't the Scissor Sisters. It's Passion Pit's debut album and it's the best oxymoron ever. Listening to 'Manners' is like swaying through a world of a million discos in a dream-like state. From the slow-burning 'Swimming In [...]

Passion Pit Manners Columbia / Frenchkiss Release Date: 05.19.09 You'll love this album … On the full-length debut Manners , Michael Angelakos appropriates and amplifies the elements that made Passion Pit's Chunk of Change EP a success. He remains unabashedly loyal to his shrill voice, supplementing its high-pitched yelps with infectious pop hooks and relentless energy. Emerging last fall, Angelakos was just a sensitive northeastern frat-boy penning songs to his ex-girlfriend. The winter passes and he's a boldly confident indie-star that records in fancy-studios with [...]

Never before have I seen album artwork so unsuited to the music. Take a look at the dark, murky and foreboding cover, and prepare to be shocked beyond belief, because 'Manners' is possibly the most euphoric record you'll hear all year. 2008's 'Chunk Of Change' EP was a revelation - a shining spark amid the gloomy musical landscape (and the artwork fit a lot better!). And this week Passion Pit return with their first proper album, surely to unanimous praise. Here is a band that seem to be operating completely in their own space. No other band around right now [...]

As a late Valentine's Day present for his girlfriend at the time, 21-year-old Michael Angelakos made for her what would soon be released as the Chunk Of Change EP. The E.P. eventually got a wide-release on the record label French Kiss, and, with Pitchfork and the blogosphere's support, has led to P assion Pit' s debut full-length, Manners , being one of the most highly anticipated albums of 2009. Though Passion Pit began simply as Angelakos + laptop, it is currently a five-person touring band which includes Ayad Al Adhamy [...]
Passion Pit's Manners album will have its work cut out living up to the blog hype that surrounds the band.

When he's not busy being the best boyfriend in the world and writing endearingly catchy love-album's for his girlfriend, Passion Pit front man Michael Angelakos is in the studio , busting out new tracks for their debut album Manners , which will be released May 19 in the U.S. on Frenchkiss and May 18 on Columbia everywhere else. Until then, we're have to make due with the pretty darn stellar Chunk of Change EP and new single "The Reeling" which is currently streaming on [...]
