Tweet Neko Case debuted a new song, "Calling Cards" in Charlottesville, VA. I've always been in love with Neko Case's voice, and since her last album " Middle Cyclone," we haven't hear that much in new material. I'm pleased to hear "Calling Cards" is classic Neko, and honestly, Neko is the only one that can sing "Blah, blah, blah" and make it sound soulful, earnest and honest. For Neko, less is always more, way more. The gentle cadence, so simple and soft, speaks volumes as [...]
Neko Case returns to her home state, sends audience into worshipful awe.

Headliners Music Hall has really been stepping its game up since Production Simple 's acquisition of the venue, and this might be the best evidence yet. In a bid to make Backseater Hank super jealous and downright inconsolable that he ever left Louisville, the incomparable Neko Case is coming to our fair city to play Headliners on May 16th. You should already know this is not to be missed. The more you know : Neko Case @ Headliners Music Hall May 16th, 2011 Tickets are $25, on [...]
Middle Cyclone shapes a palpable ambience through dense imagery and crafty vocals.

Stocked with dark, often sardonic narratives, some idiosyncratic song structures, more personal lyrics, and a host of instruments and players, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood (2006) proved that Neko Case is more, far more, than someone with a powerful voice, one she likens to an Evinrude outboard at full-throttle. Previous releases tended towards straight-ahead alt-country with a reliance on covers and standards as well as a live album. With Fox Confessor... Case wrested more of the creative control than ever, co-producing with Darryl Neudorf, in addition to writing or co-writing all of the songs, [...]

Neko Case's album Middle Cyclone has garnered numerous accolades last year and this was reflected in it's commercial success too, breaking the Top Ten on the Billboard and going on to pick up two Grammy nominations for Best Contemporary Folk Album and Best Recording Package, as well as being named album of the year by Amazon.com. I've been a fan of Ms Case after first hearing her debut album The Virginian released back in 1997, there's a great article from No Depression [...]

The last track is thirty minutes of chirpy-bug sounds; perhaps a dedication to this soiled and sun-ripened planet which kindly offers us humans a space to sing our own "chirpy-bug sounds." Neko chirps beautifully as usual, and gives due credit to both Mother Earth and Mother Culture with Middle Cyclone . Very excited to report that yesterday iTunes released an iTunes Originals set by Neko Case. I've downloaded quite a few of these sets in the past and I'm constantly listening to them. My favorites are by Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann and PJ Harvey, none of whom are known for being the most chatty artists out there, but all 3 offer really engaging interviews about their songwriting and careers, as well as original in-studio performances of some of their songs. But back to Neko Case - her new iTunes Originals compilation is now available on iTunes for [...]

I just can't stop listening to this*. I had never heard the original Sparks version, but this rather kicks it to touch. I know when I really love a song when I find myself almost emoting out loud to it as I walk down the street (only do this at home. Alone). Thanks to Robin for pointing me more forcefully to the Middle Cyclone album, which seems to have just blossomed in my ears over the last fortnight. * Obviously, I have to turn [...]

Each of the following titles fall somewhere in that spectrum, if not covering all of them in some cases. p Song Up In Her Head [...]

Neko Case at Southpaw (06/16/04) I guess I've only mentioned it a round about way up until now, but Neko Case is playing two shows at the Nokia Theatre (probably the best booking they've had in ages) on Monday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 14 ( Buy Tickets ). In case you can't make either of those shows (or if you'd just like a primer), NPR Music is streaming Neko's recent performance at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC [...]

Neko Case's album, well-received by everyone from Sasha Frere-Jones in The New Yorker to Paste Magazine, Pitchfork, SPIN, The Guardian, and The Onion, debuted on the Billboard album chart at 3, slipped to 17 in its second week, and is now at 28. Well, with bands like Twiztid now in the mix, what do you expect? Also, Kelly Clarkson flew in to the number-one spot last week, with that lollipop-like cover begging a purchase, or at the very least a stream. But I imagine it's one of those albums that was recorded too loud and gives the listener [...]
