Tweet Listen to and download "Cheap Gold" below, Frightened Rabbit 's new Christmas song. Knowing that Scotland's Frightened Rabbit are in the studio, even if it's just to write and record a whimsical Christmas tune, is enough to get me excited at the prospects of them dropping a new album in 2012. We're pushing two years since their last album "The Winter Of Mixed Drinks" [...]
Frightened Rabbit 's The Midnight Organ Fight had such an effect on me that I got a tattoo of some of the lyrics across my back. It's been a year and I'm still reeling from it on occasion. It's wordy and exposed and self-depricating and I just want to wrap up in it because the world is a sad place and this is how I feel sometimes. I saw the band for the fifth time Tuesday night. They didn't play this song, but it's been in my [...]

Trying to top an album as astounding as "The Midnight Organ Fight" (TMOF) is a tall order for any band, let alone the band who crafted it out of a broken heart and lonliness. Some things have changed for Frightened Rabbit since TMOF, and some things have not. Some that have include a new optimism and renewed hope in life and love. Some that haven't include their unique storytelling and ability to create beautifully touching and catchy music. If you're a die-hard Debbie Downer [...]

As the Frightened Rabbit extravaganza week continues I posted a review of The Midnight Organ Fight yesterday, Frightened Rabbit's second and absolutely stunning album. Today I'm sharing videos and songs from some of the songs on that album. The first single from TMOF was "Head Rolls Off", one of the many standout tracks on the album. The video features the band (then still a three piece) playing in a classroom as the kids come in and starting dancing around to the music, it's a great sight. But before that check out the version they recorded for [...]

The Midnight Organ Fight is guitar-driven pop suffused with the occasional phosphorescent glow of strings and delicate backing harmonies. It's a style more often paired with a poetic lyrical approach. yet Frightened Rabbit seem less content to nibble at the edges and lyrics frequently ring out with a jarring directness. Recently, Frightened Rabbit performed a short set on BBC Radio 1's Rob Da Bank Show, where they played "Old Old Fashioned," from The Midnight Organ Fight , as well as two new songs: The released single "Swim Until You Can't See Land," and a brand-spankin' new, never before heard track called "Nothing Like You." And it's pretty great! It combines the Frightened Rabbit of old with some more involved arrangements. It's like our boys are growing up! Take it away, Mr. Hutchinson: Frightened Rabbit - "Nothing Like You (live)" [...]
HT faves Frightened Rabbit are hard at work prepping the follow up to their fantastic debut album, The Midnight Organ Fight . While the new release doesn't hit stores until sometime next spring, the Scottish band will release a 7-inch single next month for their new song Swim Until You Can't See Land. Let's check out the video for it... Click here to view the embedded video. Frightened Rabbit - Swim Until You [...]

kata rokkar Opening act The Twilight Sad fit squarely within what I had anticipated from an opener on this tour: folk-rock, emotionally potent, and very Scottish. Their tunes were solid, but like everyone else in the audience my attention felt more focused on getting a vantage point for when Frightened Rabbit took to the stage. There was also something lost with Twilight Sad ; they seemed bored and exhausted. kata rokkar However the [...]
Here's the lead track off of my #1 Album of 2008 , by the band Frightened Rabbit. The song is "The Modern Leper" off of The Midnight Organ Flight , and this acoustic Live Daily Session just goes to prove that the music from FR can transcend it's setting, translating so amazingly well into another climate. Here's to hoping the plan on an acoustic album real soon. [EDIT/UPDATE] from the band's MySpace page: [...]

if we have a hormone race i'm bound to finish first Frightened Rabbit - Keep Yourself Warm It's all about the slow burn. Feel the heat rise as the guitar in Keep Yourself Warm builds from churning milk... to churning butter... to churning out a rock and roll anthem that makes me want to put my headphones in other people's ears. However, if you are paying attention to the knowledge being dropped in these lyrics you will know that putting things in other people's holes is not the path to [...]
The bar was cozy. Tartan scarves hung from the mic stands, and the gathering crowd was in a pretty festive mood for a sold-out sunday night show in Allston. Frightened Rabbit took the stage, opening with the quite popular tune from their sophomore release, "Modern Leper." From that point forward, the crowd was strapped into a roller-coaster ride of upbeat, emotionally driven, sweat-drenched songs of dying love and hazy moral gray areas. They played each song as if it were their final encore... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website [...]

Yesterday, the staff at Radio Exile and I unveiled the first two parts of what we felt were the Top Albums of 2008 [15 Through 11 | 10 Through 6] It takes an awful lot of deliberation to...
