A long-in-the-making film about the life of Levon Helm of The Band, Ain't In It For My Health , will make its New York City and Levon Helm Studios debuts later this month. The documentary was put together by filmmaker Jacob Hatley, who had unprecedented access to Levon for a two-year-period. Ain't In It For My Health will be shown at a special Midnight Ramble that will be held at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, New York on April 13th, which will be followed by a run at Cinema Village in New York City starting on April 19th - the [...]

Austin's scenic Auditorium Shores hosted a tribute to the late Levon Helm yesterday as part of SXSW . A number of musicians shuffled on and off stage to honor The Band drummer by performing with The Midnight Ramble Band, who were making a rare Texas appearance. JJ Grey of JJ Grey and Mofro led the act formerly known as The Levon Helm Band through Ophelia, while Ramble regular Steve Earle sang the Levon solo gem The Mountain and The Band classic Rag Mama Rag. Carolyn [...]

Back in June keyboardist Marco Benevento was part of the house band for " The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down ," a concert honoring the life and music of Levon Helm. Benevento did a fantastic job that night, as he did at the Complete Last Waltz concert in San Francisco this past November. His familiarity with the music of The Band will come in handy on March 2nd, when the current Woodstock resident will head across town to Levon Helm Studios for a Midnight Ramble . [...]

The Rolling Stones ' 50 and Counting Tour pulled in to Newark, New Jersey tonight for the first of two shows at the Prudential Center that will bring the run to a close. The band shook up the setlist a bit from the London and Brooklyn shows and gave the fans a handful of surprises. [via @polidorable ] Once again the Stones started off with an old school pairing as they kicked off the set with Get Off of My Cloud and The Last Time. [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Ian Gavan, Getty Images LONDON (AP) - The Rolling Stones made a triumphant return to the London stage on Sunday night in the first of five concerts to mark the 50th anniversary of their debut as an American-oriented blues band. They showed no signs of wear and tear - except on their aging, heavily lined faces - as frontman Mick Jagger swaggered and strutted [...]

All the focus in the Levon Helm Studios world had been on the amazing Love For Levon benefit that went down in New Jersey last Wednesday, but as Levon Helm said in reference to his home/studio/venue the organization needs to "Keep It Goin'." With that in mind the next Midnight Ramble has been announced and with it news of a new tiered pricing scheme for some events at the barn. On October 27th the Dirt Farmer Band, the Midnight Ramble Band (formerly the Levon Helm Band) and the [...]
Levon Helm, even as he was losing his lengthy struggle with cancer earlier this year, had one final wish: That the rollicking hootenannys he'd been hosting at his barn - called the Midnight Rambles - would go on. Three months after the three-time Grammy winning voice of Band passed at 71, that wish comes true, as the Helm barn comes [...]

Towards the end of last week's Levon Helm Tribute at Brooklyn Bowl, The Band drummer's longtime keyboardist Brian Mitchell told the crowd that Helm's last wish was to see his famed Midnight Rambles go on past his death. The members of Levon's tight-knit organization have honored that request by throwing two Rambles at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock over the past few weeks. On Saturday June 23rd another Midnight Ramble will take place featuring The Dirt Farmer Band (Larry Campbell, Amy Helm, Teresa Williams, Byron Isaacs and Justin [...]
Legendary drummer and singer, Levon Helm, dies at 71 after a long, hard battle with throat cancer.

The snow is falling at heavy pace this evening in Woodstock, New York, where Levon Helm and his band and crew are preparing for a special "Nightmare on Helm Street" Ramble at the legendary The Band drummer's home studio. Unfortunately there's no power on Plochmann Lane, but "the show must go on," so the concert will start at 8PM as scheduled. In other Midnight Ramble news, Helm will welcome guest openers Dr. Ralph Stanley (Dec. 2), Dawes (Dec. 3), Steven Bernstein's MTO plays Sly (Dec. 10) and The Mastersons (Dec. [...]

Earlier this week there was question about whether last night's Midnight Ramble at Levon Helm's studio on Plochmann Lane in Woodstock, New York would be by candlelight after Hurricane Irene knocked power out at the famed barn. Luckily power was restored and yesterday's very special Midnight Ramble with guests Bob Weir and Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers went on as planned, with electricity. [Photo via Weir's Twitter account ] Bruce and Bobby teamed up for the first time in [...]

Last August, Grateful Dead/Furthur bassist Phil Lesh made a surprise appearance at one of Levon Helm's Midnight Rambles at The Band drummer's studio in Woodstock, NY. Phil opened the night along with his sons performing a set of GD classics before sitting in for a few tunes on bass during Helm's set. On June 17 Lesh will return to Plochmann Lane as Levon's guest for what's sure to be an amazing Ramble. [The Lesh's Set @ Midnight Ramble via Maiden Lane ] [...]
Still a little raw in my opinion, Karl Phillips & The Midnight Ramblers are from UK and bring an upbeat punk rock/ska sound with a flair of hip-hop. The instrumentals are really catchy, upbeat and thumping. The vocals are cool and the hooks are

Cornershop sure don't like to be rushed when it comes to recording albums, taking nearly eight years in between releases and putting out only three records in the last 13 years. The UK-based band, whose latest - Judy Sucks A Lemon for Breakfast - made my Top 6 Of The First 6 , also like to take their time when it comes to touring the US, having last played shows in the states all the back in 2002. Cornershop will look to remedy their lack of live appearances here with a short nine-date [...]

I was fortunate enough to attend the original taping of Wednesday night's Spectacle: Elvis Costello With… ( airing Dec 23 at 10PM on Sundance ) and after seeing the entire thing on TV, I think this episode plays better now that it has been whittled down to a television friendly 45 minutes. As for the performances within the show, the full band rendition of “The Weight” (complete with 3 guitarists, 2 drummers, 2 bass players, 1 piano player, 1 keyboard player and Ray LaMontagne ) was the highlight of the night for [...]

Originally, the purpose for The Midnight Rambles at Levon Helm's Woodstock home-recording studio - otherwise referred to as The Barn - was to serve as a way for the legendary drummer of The Band to recoup money from his mounting medical bills after battling and overcoming throat cancer. Helm's iconic and unmistakable voice was down to barely a raspy whisper after radiation treatments which forced him into resting his vocal chords. While he had to rely on his capable band to provide the vocals, Helm was able to return to [...]

Nothing can silence Levon Helm!

With legendary rockers Aerosmith forced to cancel the remainder of their summer tour due to the severe injuries that lead singer Steven Tyler suffered after a fall from the stage in South Dakota earlier this month, their tour mates - ZZ Top - had some free time on their hands. With some solo headlining dates already booked around the Aerosmith tour, the legendary Texas boogie-rockers have decided to fill out the rest of their fall with dates in cities that they were previously scheduled to hit . If [...]
