I hit another birthday today. I've decided to take my age into my own hands and have deducted a few rings off the old tree trunk. I certainly feel a fuckload younger than my chronometer, so what the hell. Besides, anytime anyone guesses my age, they go about 10 years younger than I am. I figure this won't deter the grim reaper, but I've been playin' with the houses money since I was about 20 anyway. A quick check finds me far in the red with regard to where my financial prospects were supposed to be. As my [...]
Milestones is a feature looking to gain an insight into the tastes of a particular character or bunch of people of the music 'industry'. We ask them a few questions and they kindly answer. Tye Die Tapes are a cassette only label based near Sheffield run by two friends, and are pretty much the go-to people if you want to find a new band in the north-east of England. Putting out releases by Sealings, Bhurgeist, and Cold Hands among others - as well as putting on some excellent gigs - they do [...]

Sach O seen ya standin' on the corner over there and he knows you ain't down with his team . Twitter milestones are the new Billboard certifications, at least in the sub-celebrity realm of Bass music. Having just reached the big 5-triple-0, Night Slugs affiliate Mosca has gone out and dropped a couple of free joints and alongside his recently released UKG single on Numbers, they're strong examples of what makes him tick as a producer. On the paying side, Done Me Wrong/Bax are expert UKG revivalism with skippy drums, chopped up vocal samples and the breezy [...]
We have been rooting for RAC ever since we first heard André Anjos sticking his fingers into all our favorite tracks. Over the years we have seen him take on Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Tokyo Police Club and The Morning Benders producing some phenomenal results. Recently André was able to celebrate the fact that the RAC [...]

Paul Liddell is a latter day troubadour. A relentlessly hard working musician, who, with guitar in hand, travels the length and breadth of the UK, bringing his own unique blend of northern charm and acoustic live sampling devilry to his band of loyal supporters. So far Paul has released two solo albums and 3 EPs and his current album, the excellent Milestones And Motorways is a proudly home-made and independent release. Tell us a bit about yourself. I'm a musician/singer/songwriter/per former/general musical dogsbody. I live by the seaside in north east [...]

Milestones is a feature looking to gain an insight into the tastes of a particular character of the music 'industry'. We ask them a few questions and they kindly answer. Will runs his own music PR company in Two Tap Digital and is also a writer for The Line Of Best Fit and Drowned in Sound. Affectionately known as G-Grant, and also part of the Lost Lost Lost clan, Will is an annoyingly-bloody-good writer ( his review of Antlers' most recent album is good evidence of that ) [...]

The SD supergroup is like the musical version of The Avengers // Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

Milestones is a feature looking to gain an insight into the tastes of a particular character of the music 'industry'. We ask them a few questions and they kindly answer. Live editor and sessions producer for The Line Of Best Fit, writer for Noisey, live music photographer for The Fly magazine and general music photographer extraordinaire, Paul Bridgewater is London based and bearded. Rather than semi-good at those three varying roles, Paul is one of those annoyingly talented swines that is able to do all three [...]

Milestones is a feature looking to gain an insight into the tastes of a particular character of the music 'industry'. We ask them a few questions and they kindly answer. Noel Gardner is one rocking dude. A regular writer for Drowned In Sound , The Quietus, and the BBC album reviews site , and music editor for Cardiff independent magazine Buzz , Noel is a genuine inspiration of mine for the consistently high quality of his writing, how amazingly prolific he is at it, and his pretty [...]

Milestones is a feature looking to gain an insight into the tastes of a particular character of the music 'industry'. We ask them a few questions and they kindly answer. Oliver Primus is the founder and editor of music and culture website The 405 and, aged 26, his dedication to keeping the site running over the past few years has been pretty darn impressive - especially coming from my personal perspective of that of a contributor to the website, ensuring The 405 [...]

Rhapsody has reached a new milestone, 800,000 subscribers. On Monday (7/11) the music subscription service announced that it had surpassed the 800,000 subscriber mark. The company, which was spun off from RealNetworks in early 2010, has been seeing some growth recently after years of no real growth in their subscriber base. With music subscription services launching left and right, including the soon to launch Spotify , only time will tell if Rhapsody will continue to grow.

Derek Jeter and Jordan Brand are synonymous as he's been the face of the brand on the baseball diamond since 2003. To celebrate their sig athlete, JB put together the short viral below to put the Yankee captain's latest and largest achievement into perspective. Also, take a peek at JB & Jeter's DJ3K gear . The story behind the sockliners is very dope and inspiring to say the least. I'm about to make my five-year-old start working on his rough draft this afternoon.

As always, when YVYNYL reaches these kinds of milestones, I can only be humbled that you guys keep reading and liking the music I share. I aim simply to be a conduit of excellent independent music and art that deserves to be seen and heard. You, my gentle readers, are the fuel for that fire. Thank you again.
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Sled Island Flickr, James Stangroom There's a sea of music lovers spilling out of a hot dog joint, tunes are blasting as folks chow down on chili-smothered smokies, the sun is shining and sooner or later someone in a cowboy hat is going to saunter past. ![[MILESTONE] The Burning Ear's 1000th post! A Celebration Mix!](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3526263_lg.jpg)
Wow. Another mind-bending milestone in the TBE saga. 1000 is a big number but in the grand scheme of things it will only be the tip of the iceberg. Running this site for the past 28 months has been an honor and privilege and we all look forward to dropping more sweet jams for a long time to come. For now lets celebrate with a little mixtape I put together below. There is a theme in there somewhere... There are some potential changes to the site underway but until I get a breather from work I won't be [...]
"On Sunday, April 24th at 4:46pm, "Ridin' Solo" by Jason DeRulo received Pandora's 10 billionth thumb," crowed a proud Tim Westergren on the company blog . Pandora's thumbs - unlike Facebook's Like which only points upward in approval - can be directed up or down as users fine tune their music choices. By comparison, it would take the fans of 303 Lady Gaga's ( 33 million Facebook likes) to match the engagement with Pandora's thumb. Of course, while tempting to measure Pandora's thumb against Facebook's Like button, it's not a particularly usefull comparison. Users [...]
Milepost 5's creative community finally gets rolling. "S o it's about five years ago , it's a rainy afternoon and I'm driving down 82nd Avenue and I notice that the retirement home had closed," says Mayor Sam Adams to the crowd gathered on Friday, April 8, at Milepost 5 (MP5)—an "intentional community" designed to provide artists and creatives with affordable live-work space. "I had just unexpectedly won [...]
Photography: Alicia Rey Dear readers, you are amazing. The blog reached 10,000 comments the other day, I'm getting to the point where I can't even comprehend the amount of support the blog's receiving. Thank you for putting up with all my quirks, the inconsistent genres, unrelated pictures, less-than-satisfactory descriptions and practically no replies, never holding back positive (or negative) feedback. You are truly awesome. More numbers for those who are interested in this kind of stuff: there are 175,000 pageviews a month, 3,000+ visits a day, Facebook reached 2,000 fans, Hypem connects over [...]
